Project Winter BEAT! '99 Impreza Wagon

First non-Honda I've ever owned. Behold, the URABUS (U R A BUS).

$1000, 122k miles on original SOHC EJ22-2, drives like new, just needs a few things! The most pressing ones are input/output shaft seal on trans, upstream o2 sensor, MAF sensor clean or replace. Body work too, surface rust needs stripped then covered. Power wise it's whatever for NA Subaru motor, but the torque is awesome.

Front looking good besides a dent I want to mallet out.

For LULZ, will be reversing letters to say "URABUS" and putting a Mightycarmods sticker on the rear window > MCM ftw!

Engine bay clean!

Interior color is awful. Sucks coming from the creature comforts of the dark spaceship. Oh well, it's practical and roomy. Seats suck, luckily there are endless options for them!

Lots of work ahead but should be well worth it for Suby AWD fun come winter!

Handling is decent on stock suspension, of course it redeems itself when foot on pedal and the AWD picks up the slack...which is advertised only everywhere on the vehicle.

Nice, but whose idea was it to give the factory performance division the same acronym as things that include syphilis and herpes?

P.S. I'm not sorry.

URABUS. nice.

Put ya some great big rugged floor mats, ✓ and a yosemete sam back off mud flaps ✓ and you'll be set. Yes siree.

Keep in mind ♡gay tree huggers♡ may try to strike up conversations in parking lots. Just find an old 'meat is food' sticker and you'll be safe.

Re: Project Winter BEAT! '99 Impreza Wagon

Turbo wouldn't be a bad idea...from my reading so far I've found 2.2L are the oddball (but most reliable!) motors that never saw much turbo action. Only thing is it would need the big-dog EJ20/25 turbo+supporting and motor internals so it'll be just like making any other NA car FI but due to everything so readily available for this chassis/motor its a lot easier and hella cheap. And the community for this car where I live is MASSIVE.

For now my aim is reliable snow beast. Time to start tearing into this mo'fo.

Re: Project Winter BEAT! '99 Impreza Wagon

Just thinking right now this could be one hell of a sleeper especially the way it looks right now...anyways had some spare time for once off work, so got to the junkyard for two purposes: parts for scoob and parts for lude.

Not a single lude...however did find a OBS (Impreza Outback Sport) with some stuff I need/wanted...hood had stock Scooby scoop and vents but was rusted/beaten to a pulp. Rear hatch I wanted but had no way of getting it home. I grabbed what I needed, that I could grab, that would fit in the Lude trunk.

Top left is a part of the intake arm with a MAF sensor, saved me $75 from buying one new however its a coin toss as to whether it works or not.
Bottom left is a wimpy but working cup holder that slides in/out.
Bottom right is a gauge cluster with a tachometer as mine didn't come with one.
Top right is part of the center console with vents, but its black and has a compartment on top to store CD's and stuff.

Old gauge cluster out:

New gauge cluster in:

As you can see, the old one had no tach, instead it just had "Subaru" on it. WTF Subaru, seriously? Honda would never troll people by needlessly removing the tach and putting a blank circle that says "Honda" on it. New one, MUCH better. Now I can see if there are any fluctuations in idle as well as shift accurately.

Exhaust pulled out by those two horns the Subaru community calls "headers" or something.

Now to order some parts and drop the trans...

False. My brother's 2000 Civic DX came without a tach. IIRC it was just blank space there, but he did what you did and got a cluster with a tach from the junkyard.
