2 non Ludes

...

...well, if it helps any, between the 2 car owners here, we've owned 4 Preludes total ...

Damn. Two cars with big asses...

Me texting Sideswipe Si: You want to race?
Sideswipe Si: In reverse. That's the only chance you would ever get.

I was bored and Chris needed to take a pic of a parking regulations sign. Yah he got another ticket Afterwards we drove around looking for the water taxi, but it was closed due to some state budget cuts We took a few point and shoot pics nevertheless. As you can also see, i dont shoot pictures for National Geographic

Yes my Ack is completely stock. I plan on doing stage 1 tuning + reflash eventually but not now.

It's another beautiful FKING day in NYC And I love this spot for evening photo shootouts. Trust should give it a go. Borden AV, behind the Midtown tunnel.

56K KILL YOURSELF

You Should Go Aspec/stage one. Comptech is maaaad steep! LOL

Yeah, Vernon blvd all the way up, until you turn left for the 495 east. Turn right instead go around the building in the middle of the street, at the corner, turn left, drive up the block until you see an open parking lot on the right with some private buses. NYC water taxi.

Re: 2 non Ludes

TSX-es are a different kind of fun. You can push the envelope on a TSX, on the other hand, one Epic fail and well this is the result....

It's that easy. we all know not to burn off a turn, but well, that was a long time ago.

Now That they are easily attainable (most is 14K), I see a decline in Quality Owners. My Mona will be eight years old in November.

Nice whip fellas. Pics look good. Cool spot. Water Taxi is closed.? I could of sworn my girls sister went there 2 weeks ago.Well the one in LIC I think. Keep up the goos work.

Brian,

You still got the lude? If so are you planning on fixing it? Also, why I never see you guys at the meets? At least the Tri-State meet.

Works sucks man, I get my crop cut at 9:30am, like once every two months. And hours are garbage, but it helped me keep Mona, lol! I tried calling out for the tristate, but boss really was gonna write me up.

Thanx! Never did a photo shoot for Sideswipe, You'd loved her.

And keep your prelude strong D, my GTO is still factory, unmolested. You could beat her no prob. In the near future, gonna put my pedders/hotchkis stuff on so she handles like a dream. I think its time for an album

okay.
I sold the Lude a few months ago.
Surprise!

trust me fellas. There is no one more who feels like sht.
I had to for metaphysical reasons, if you can understand lol...

it went to a good home though.
So bring on the bashing im ready for it

I tired to drift in the GTO. I didn't know the traction was on. So much power in only 1st gear it's serious.

Yeap. We've seen the same thing with them here too. They've become (or are fast becoming) cheap enough for ers to be able to afford them, and most of them don't respect what they've got.

I wouldn't have a shot. with a leaking trans, breached headgasket, and 1yr old oil and gas

I like the powertrain in the newer GTO, but they should have never been named GTO. It's a slap in the face to the people who owned real GTO's back in the day. My pop had a 66.
I was much more impressed with the body styling of the G8, which I'd love to own btw. I just wish they would have gone more retro with the styling of the "GTO" when they did it.

I was much more impressed with the body styling of the G8, which I'd love to own btw. I just wish they would have gone more retro with the styling of the "GTO" when they did it.
Had to match the current lineup, Bob Lutz was also trying to save the company. I would put myself in debt for a 67 remake all blackout with ralle mags!

Exactly. You also need to know a little about the history of the vehicle in question.

This was shown at Holden's display at the Motor Show in 1998. Holden (for those who don't know) is GM's local arm here in Australia. This car was little more than a gimmick at the time, a coupe version of what was then (and still is) Australia's highest selling car, the Commodore. (Again, for the benifit of the rest of you, the Commodore is a four door sedan powered by a fairly agricultural V6, or a V8 and is marketed as basic family transport, in a similar way to the Chevy Malibu or Ford Taurus) Now in the same way that Americans look back fondly of the muscle car era, and the GM fans think Pontiac GTO, the Australian hero is the Monaro. Available at various times of it's life with 253, 308, 327 and 350ci V8s with 4-spd gearboxes, it was the muscle car of choice in between 1967-1975. Unless you needed four doors, in which case you would've had to settle for a Ford Falcon GT 351. Free thinkers would've tried Chrysler's Valiant Charger, and the 265 Hemi 6-Pack was just as fast in a straight line as either of the aforementioned V8s, but wasn't as popular; probably because it never won the Bathurst. (Google it if you don't know what it is)

Anyway.

So many people uttered the word "Monaro" when they saw the concept, and Holden recieved many deposits there and then, so the concept was rushed into production in a little over 18 months, and the Holden Monaro was on the dealer's lot, and on the road.

Holden's in-house tuning shop (thier Mugen if you will) is Holden Special Vehicles, or HSV.

They capitalised on this euphoric wave of nostalgia with the release of the GTS and GTO Coupes, based on the Monaro.

A short time later, (presumably late 1999) Bob Lutz saw this at an Australian Motor Show

What do those letters just in front of the rear wheel say?

This is the HSV GTO Coupe. GTS has been the top level badge at Holden since the Monaro in the late 60s, and despite the fact that so many people love to have the fastest, more just want the look. So the GTO was created with a "mild" tune LS1 in the same car, while the GTS got the killer C4B, which at the time was the powerplant from the Calloway Corvette. Either way, Bob Lutz saw this, with the shark gills, a V8 facing the right direction and the letters G T O on the side skirts and decided there and then that this car needed to be sent to the US with a Pontiac badge. And while it did get a nose job to fit in with the rest of the Pontiac family look, it's essentially the same car.

Since Holden had already done most of the engineering work, Pontiac couldn't change much so the headlights and front bumper were it initially. The mid life facelift added the hood vents (which were a sore point for so many - and one of the main complaints with the "new" GTO was the lack of vents, but when they were added the complaint was they looked crap!) and a new front bumper, with a revised package inside and revised handling package.

Locally, we thought the GTO (and later the sedan that followed, the G8 which is essentially just a local Commodore V8 with a Pontiac'd nose) was like a contract to sell sand to an Ejyption, but as it turned out, the economy was on the slide and the price of oil on the rice. The right car at the wrong time some would say. oh well.

Re: 2 non Ludes

Colin I knew about the new "GTO" and where it came from. I'd known a little about it, then you went in depth in another thread years back.
I'm still not impressed with its complete lack of styling, it looks like an mid 90's grand prix. I still stand by my previous statement, if pontiac was going to make a GTO it should have been mid sixties retro. That along with the G8 would have saved the company.

I wasn't aware that the G8 was also based on a platform from over there. I'd be interested to see how it looks without that signature agressive pontiac nose.

Re: 2 non Ludes

not bad. the color gives it more style than it really has. the sides and profile of the back look pretty good for a sedan. I guess I'm just a fan of sharp, bold, boxy lines. Maybe I'm just an oldhead stuck in the past, I've just never been a fan of rounded body styling.

sideswipe. I hope you realize I'm not bashing on you or your ride. I have a great amount of respect for the chasis, and powertrain of your "gto". The sound of the motor is amazing, reminiscent of a true muscle car.
Is there a replica front bumper made of the one used on the pontiac drift car driven by samuel huber (sp?). It looks a lot like last picture colin posted from the australian auto show.
