@bykfixer, You told me to study some diagrams...I'm wondering if I could possibly remove my intake manifold and let it soak in carb cleaner to loosen up the carbon for a night and then clean it out for a thourogh clean. Your opinion? what you (yall) do?
When I was swapping in a new engine, I took the intake manifold and drowned that thing with carb cleaner.

There was a crack on the intake tubing, so the inside of the manifold was caked with dirt. It took about a can and a half and various wire brushes to completely clean the inside.

Also if you plan on drilling out the plugs, make sure you have a way to plug it back up again. Whether it be new plugs or welding it shut.

Re: Alright guys, I got an Update...

You would need some really long pipe cleaner. Or removing the intake manifold letting seafoam soak in the egr tunnel and using compressed air and pipe cleaner brushes. A drill is very cheap these days man... That would be the optimal way

Re: Alright guys, I got an Update...

EGR codes usually start due to an incorrect vacuum reading from the valve upon decelaration. In time, clogged ports can cause this symptom as well. But you must first check the valve operation.
We'll start with a basic how to without turning a screw....

^^ some guy named superbob posted this.
It is a generic test for any car. Your power wire is supposed to be a yellow with blue stripe. (Note: The white with black stripe is the one that tells the ECU what's what)

To ground it, you unplug the sensor, use a short segment of wire to the pin on the egr valve that matches where the black wire was on the connector and run it to your car body like say the shock tower.
You can fasten that end with tape so you only have to hold the one end at the valve.

In the case of powering it, you touch a wire to the pin that had the white/blue wire on one end and the other to your battery + terminal.

Wire you say? You don't have rolls of wire laying around? Well, you guys surely have a busted something or other laying around..an old coffee pot, a big box tv...something with an electrical cord.
So try that and tells us what happens. If your engine stalls you simply clean the valve and it's intake port...we'll discuss where you go after you've tried the test.

That's some concrete ****. You should be good now..

Yes a can of air is better than nothing, maybe combined with a vacuum at the other end.. Get creative

Re: Alright guys, I got an Update...

^^ I have a malfunctioning induction system with no CEL's. I've studied a little at a time the goings on in the giant vacuum pump we call the H22 engine. This mornings session included the refference above to the EGR check amongst a bunch of other related but very dry articles, that would likely confuse poor, inexperienced young Mat with 1 T (from now on)

I've also learned that if you know how and where to check vacuum, how to read the readings and needle actions, the less than $100 vacuum tester can tell you just about as much as that $35,000 Starship Enterprise D/Snap On diagnosis machine can about your engines performance.

Yup, that's why I have a handheld vac pump with gauge. It can suck and blow some thing like 10 psi or hg I guess. Oh, and a DVM... Be Lost without that thing

Once u see your parameters in black and white they make sense once u start to snoop around.. 5vdc on tps... Ah! I know what that means, and if u get a different reading it's easy to follow the problem down the list. Flow charts are friends

I bought a Klein DVM that reads farrads at OGS reccomendation to check a capacitor in my home AC. Found it very useful many times. I'm just pretty ignorant to it's uses overall.

Vacuum checker is in my top 2 list. Harbor freight has a fuel pump/engine checker for $15

Re: Alright guys, I got an Update...

I've used the pump to clear my entire clutch/braking system, not the abs yet, gonna scrap it, too heavy. Once you add ABS to the 4th gen, u make it heavy enough to need it ! hah

kind of annoying though, its got a little reservoir underneath, and you keep on having to stop work, pinch off the line, empty the res and repeat 1000004 times.

That thing right there could see if the EGR is stuck... Thats why I asked him told him way back about the technique that involved sucking on the upper EGR valve port slightly with the lips. I know it sounds kind of nasty, but u wont get **** in your mouth and just wash it out with coke.... When mine was caked full of crap it still seized after cleaning, I guess i cleared an obstruction or something by sucking on that bish..

I've never cleaned my EGR ports btw, they look factory, have bad flow, and the car had 337.000Km on it when it died. For me cleaning just the valve worked. Some lower mileage cars have more carbon soot buildup, go fig...

Re: Alright guys, I got an Update...

I would say that the flow can be restricted to the EGR system, leading to a possible, misfire, overheat, or just dirtier valves and an intake mani that wont get any dirtier. That about the only bonus in it. Oh, and harder to pass emissions. If you dont have emissions laws where u live, you can delete the system, that wont have an ill effect. Maybe just a different than usual reading going to o2 sensors down stream, but they will adjust accordingly. EGR is useless, for the amount of fuss that goes into it, I'd rather delete a cat and call it a day.

Re: Alright guys, I got an Update...

Probably.

But at least take a whack at the EGR test...it's a confidence booster. If the test shows the EGR valve is not functioning..2 12mm screws and some carb cleaner.

Now as far as that other stuff...we didn't know we were saying either, just trying to impress the new guy...
Eh, just kidding.
The DVM is a digital volt meter. Checks ohms, volts and stuff like that. Certain readings say if certain items either work at all or are begining to fail.
Example: you've cleaned your entire EGR system and still get the code. You buy a new $125 valve. Still got code. Oh crap! What thuh? Well there's a solenoid in there that may be telling system it's still clogged. Buy another $125 part? Or test it? Volt meter tells you if it works at all and or properly.
The vacuum stuff can tell you if you have leaks, if things are clogged, if your motor is strong or weak and stuff like that.

MOTOR Magazine Article | MOTOR Information Systems
^^ here's a basic breakdown of why vacuum matters.

Read the first two paragraphs. Save it. And in 6 months read it again. The whole thing. You can do that now, but much will be confusing...for now.
But you stick with pz and you'll be teaching us in a year or two.

I understand the engine is vacuum part due to experience with steam engine boat toys and lawn mowers.

Re: Alright guys, I got an Update...

Whenever I accelerate hard (not flooring), why does my e-brake light turn on?
It turns on when like at 3k+, and when I let off light goes off. It should not be doing that so don't say "don't accelerate hard".
It just started yesterday.

Your ebrake light isn't just an ebrake light. It goes on when you have the emergency brake engaged, but it also illuminates when you have an issue with the braking system (or the sensor within the brake reservoir is dirty/in need of being replaced or fresh fluid etc)

But why would it be that it only comes on when I accelerate "hard".
uneven level or movement?

Re: Alright guys, I got an Update...

Maybe this diagram can give a better idea of how that can happen.

Yea i know that. but it is normal for the brake light to come on when the nose dives or when you brake during the cold, but for the brake light to come on at the complete opposite situation is unusual, when it is hot and you are accelerating. This started recently and it happens only in first gear. Its odd but car still operates fine, and I do not notice dramatic change in braking ability.

Only if your level is low or if your float isn't operating properly.

The level sensor is a float. If it isn't operating properly it can cause the light to come on.

Are you noticing ANY change, it doesn't need to be dramatic?

Again, sounds like either a sticky float or your fluid level isn't full.
Failing that I would say your float is defective.
