wheel confusion

okay, i have been trying to decipher the whole rim dilemma. i have a 4th gen and the rims have a 4x114.3 bolt pattern so i don't need an adapter they are 17" (i know that is fairly large, i would go with 16" but they don't make them in the style i want) 7" wide with a 40mm offset, so would i need a spacer, and if so how much. And what would be the recommended tire size for that rim.... i tried reading the comparison but it gets a little hairy in the section about 17's. thnx

7" Wide Wheels w/ 4th & 5th Gen

Less than +38mm ::: Not Recommended
+38mm to +41mm ::: Not Recommended if you are, or plan to be, lowered. You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well.
+42mm to +44mm ::: This is a grey area if you are lowered, results vary depending on tire and/or drop. You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well.
+45mm to +50mm ::: You shouldn't have any problems. Recommended Offsets for 7" Wide Wheels.
Larger than +51mm ::: Not Recommend. You take the chance of rubbing the inside lining of the wheel well.

I have 18x 7.5 rims w/ a +43 offset. I do however have a very stout suspension setup.

where you like your rims to set (mine are flush w/ the sheetmetal) is personal preference. The drivability is going to come w/ money spent on a proper suspension setup.

Follow nicks advice above, and you'll be fine.

ok thnx now what size tires would be lets say optimal. now if the 205/40/17 is not recommended on a 7.5" rim and these are 7" rims, then a 215/40/17 would be out of the question???
