98 base auto x setup

Ive got alot of work done and running my lude in auto-x races and daily driving it. My first autox race went well, handles amazing but seams sluggish due to wheel weight. I'm currently running saleen 18x9 215/40 up front and 18x10.5 245/40 on the rear, not sure what offest. While it looks nice, this combo is heavier then I'd like. I'm looking to run 17x8 and 225/40 on all 4 corners to lighten up a bit without sacrificing too much traction. My question is what offset would be best to keep a wider stance with 17x8. I know the wheels look like crap, then need blasted and repainted but will keep them for DD use.

If you're going to the trouble of changing wheel and tire size, figure out what will work best with the rest of the car. Frankly, you're currently over-tired -- those 245s in the back aren't doing anything but adding weight to the (unpowered) back end. How how's the car set up currently, and how close to the limit of the rules are you? Since you're buying tires, what do you plan to get, and what sizes does that make available? That'll drive you to wheel choices.
