New wheels.. Means test fit tyme!!

This is my test fit of my MB Battles 17x9+30, I'm thinking with a nice stretch and camber they will look really good.. Let me know what you think.. Also not sure if I should run a 215/40-45 tire or a 205/40-45.. Input and feedback is appreciated!

Go thru the tire thread bro. You will find all your answer and test results and what you should do if your wheels rub or something.

It says at the top "this is not a chart for stretching tires to achieve the hellaflush look" that's what I'm doing.. Cause bitches dig fitment haha, so the chart/graph is not going to help me at this point. But thanks for the feedback fellas

Re: New wheels.. Means test fit tyme!!

the chart will help you if your going to stretch tires because you'll lean towards a smaller length across than what is recomended
also, i'm sure you know this; but ask anyone else who has done it before with your size wheel.

Re: New wheels.. Means test fit tyme!!

You'll want at least a 215/40 on a 17x9. For a meaty stretch, 225/45.

17x9, 215/40:

17x9, 225/45:

EDIT: It doesn't matter if the cars aren't Preludes, wheel/tire sizes are going to appear the same. Fitment is all on you, rolled fenders and camber is probably a necessity.

Re: New wheels.. Means test fit tyme!!

I got mixed feelings about this, knowing tire crap, and D.Danglez trying to live AE86 Trueno days on a FF platform. The size you're looking for is 215 35 17. Double check it, read my tires sticky in General Tech Talk.

So you know, sidewall isn't usable tread.

Nice write up!! Very informative.. The sidewall (in my opinion) is just going to be for the sake of "comfort". How did you come up with the 35wall,(ironically in me saying in this thread) is a little ridiculous don't you think? I know you know more than me.. I'm not being sarcastic or a doucher haha, I'm just wondering where you got that figure from.. If its a math thing it might help me out (keep in mind I was only in Pre-Algebra in highschool)

Re: New wheels.. Means test fit tyme!!

If you want the stretched look, you must choose your tire by rim width. You use the little formula I set up in that thread, or just play with that one tire size 205 (40/45)17 I used. Any tire company worth it's salt will offer zero plus sizing, IE, 215 40 17, 225 30 17, 215 35 17.

Now, the part I disapprove is the rim width. I had this conversation with Vanz and some other members. You void the warranty if you put tires on rims it's not meant for. 215 35 17 has a rim width of 7-8.5 rim width. For the sake of having your cake and eating it too, the 1/2" on both sides = 1/4". That's as far as I would ever do it. I care more about safety all day long. I'm with Oggs. Even the 215 40 17 don't look right.

Did I mention the curb damage? Side walls protect your rim!

I know whats involved in stretching a tire.. I'm not really butthurt on voiding a warranty.. I know a 205/45 will work, but due to how much(and it's not a lot) of wheel is showing around the lip, and factor in camber and what not have to worry about potholes an any other road hazard a lot more than I already do. This is why I would like to go with a 215/40 to make the stretch a little less extreme, but I'm skeptical as to if it will fit with my current set up.

Re: New wheels.. Means test fit tyme!!

Yeah, got the same response from the last thread too. And if I can't convince you, at least I know you're proceeding fully informed.
Crazy toe, crazy positive camber, and outdated tires is what happened to the ford Suvs back in the day. The tire's belts just unraveled. Too much force in all directions.

Try to just use those for show, Not DD, ok?

Re: New wheels.. Means test fit tyme!!

Your tire size really just depends on how low you wanna go. If you're wanting to tuck tires I would go for a 215/40. 205/40 is a little too much on a 9" width imo and will give you more poke than what you are probably looking for. I'm running a 215/45 on my rears which are 9" and 215/40 on my fronts which are 8", here's a couple of pics for reference.

Re: New wheels.. Means test fit tyme!!

I think you should go with a 215/40 because you're poke isn't that nutty to be running a 205/40. It just won't look right. I'm running 17x9 +22 all around on 215/40 and its enough stretch to clear the fenders. Also, the brand of tire makes a big difference.

Thank you Kevin! Are those 512's or 912's? Your stance is exactly what im going for (besides the work wheels haha) I'd like to stay the same all around for rotating purposes only. How would the ride/road noise be with a 40 wall tire?

Re: New wheels.. Means test fit tyme!!

They are actually 512's, Falken doesn't make the 912 anymore. Those Falkens stretch really nicely and road noise on them is pretty low too. One of the best stretchy tires you can get for the money.

For even more reference page 8 of Nordic's build thread. He is stretching 215/40 512's over a 9" width wheel on his rear wheels. Its just about the perfect size for a 9" width if you are wanting to tuck a lot of tire.

Re: New wheels.. Means test fit tyme!!

Yeah the guys on StanceWorks and PP helped me out, as well as yourself and everyone on here. Decided to run a 215/40 all around.

Kevin, I thought they stopped making the 512 and the 912 was the newer version of the 512?
