Alignment Help

Today I went to my local reputable tire shop to get a four wheel alignment done because my car is pulling to the right and therefore my steering wheel was crooked. I pick up the car today at closing time and my problem still exists after the alignment. What could this be? I hope my frame is not bent or something dumb like that. Any help is much apreciated. I will be calling them tomorrow.

Re: Alignment Help

Is it pulling to the right whenever your driving? or when coming to a stop?

Re: Alignment Help

Ok so on the way home from work a little while ago I experienced the car pulling to the right while driving, also my steering wheel is at about 10 or 11 o'clock ... seems even worse than it was before

Could be the crown of the road, but with the wheel that far off, I doubt it...

Re: Alignment Help

If your steering wheel is crooked they didn't do it right. They should have also given you a printout of the alignment specs.

The rear tires are newer than the front two...there is a bop noise coming from the front, it only happens when Im at a complete stop and then start going. I had them check that out to and they said they did not see anything.

I drove it down multiple roads and it still drifts.

Wow that's a pointless sheet to give a customer. They are suppose to have the wheel set straight when doing the alignment....idiots. Go back there and have them fix their crappy alignment.

Re: Alignment Help

I took my car back up there today, the guy said that more than likely its going to be my tires that are causing my problems. I guess we will see and for my sake I hope he is wrong.

Re: Alignment Help

Just got back from picking up my car, they switched the two front tires with each other and my car drives somewhat "straighter." So I guess I need to buy two new front tires to see if that corrects my problem, steering wheel is still at 11 o clock. Lame!

Re: Alignment Help

your tires will not cause your steering wheel to be off like that, I would go to another shop if i were you. also, you can pretty much tell if a tire is causing you problems just by looking at it most of the time, i would check them over.

Re: Alignment Help

so did they give you a print out the 2nd time you were there? i'd be raising he11 right now. if it was your tires, it would be pulling the other way now that they were swapped. another option would be your brakes. jack the front end up, put it in neutral, and rotate each front wheel and if you feel like the right wheel has significantly more drag then the other wheel it could be the caliper causing it. you can double check that by looking at the pads. if you're right wheel's brake pads have more wear then you know the caliper is sticking. another option could be the wheel bearing. you'll also notice this by jacking up the front end and spinning the wheels. except the difference will be that the brake wear is roughly even. if you have any shake in the steering wheel, that's another clue to tell you your wheel bearing could be going out. also if said wheel has any play in it, that's another clue. given that your steering wheel is crooked, i'm leaning more towards an alignment issue as opposed to something else. it could also be a combination of things though.

Re: Alignment Help

No print out the second time, all they did was switch the tires to show me that it was a tire problem and not an alignment problem. Either way I'm done dealing with them anymore. I will have to check my calipers tomorrow but thats a good idea never thought of it being the calipers. The steering wheel does not have any shaking issues its just off.
