Re: Coil-overs

Ok, to best help you we need to know what you are looking to get out of your car with coilovers.

You just daily drive it with some "spirited driving" or will it see real track time?

There is no point in dumping $1000+ in a set of coilovers if you don't really need them.

Re: Coil-overs

Well im looking into a new clutch right now - exedy stage 1 and fidanza flywheel - and then I wanted to purchase some coilovers, possibly adjustable ones. Then after, if I have the money, get a k20a2 swap. I'm looking for the best quality perfomance coilovers that wont break my wallet.

Re: Coil-overs

lomjdm, you never really answered the question, are you planing to daily drive the car with some sprited driving? or more so having a track set up?

and dont waste your money on a k series swap, for the money you'd spend you could easily go boosted h22 and get more power for the same or less money.

Re: Coil-overs

Probably just some spirited driving for now. But I don't want soome second-line coilovers if I'm just going to end up spending more money on better ones later.

& I checked out the jis magic coilovers. I couldn't find any for my year D:

Re: Coil-overs

I was taking a look at these coilovers and I was wondering, why is it a conversion kit? What's the difference? And is it applicable for my 96 lude?

Ground Control - Coilover Conversion kit, 92- Honda Prelude

And sorry, im still a noob; is kyb and koni the same?
And why do you refer to shocks as struts? I keep thinking youre talking about a strut bar >.<

Re: Coil-overs

Because you are converting from a normal spring to a coilover sleeve. Yes, they will work on your 96.

KYB and Koni are not the same at all.

Shocks = Struts just different words for them really.

not really they are two different things, shocks are what you will find mostly on trucks and some muscle cars and struts are what mostly are on sport compacts and sedans. they do the same thing just designed differently.

Re: Coil-overs

Kevin, shut up.

I'm on my phone and didn't feel like going into detail on that part. Last time I told someone that struts and shocks were different they took it literally and asked if shocks or struts would be better for their car. Didn't feel like going through that conversation again.

yes those will be fine on your lude, i have the same thing on mine, on stock struts right now. and so far i love them.
the difference is your going for a full spring(with no adjuster), to a shorter spring with an aluminum adjuster(to make up the difference for a shorter spring. basically its just to give you the abillity to adjust your ride height pretty much anytime you want.

i disagree. well partly. the only real difference in the two are one have the spring directly mounted on/over/around it. where as the other has the spring mounted completely seperate from it.
like you said they both do the same thing, and in a basic, stock form, they damn near identical. other then well ya the spring placement and valving of course.

Re: Coil-overs

i got a question for gc's.

since i use to own tein basics coil's, there was a way to stop it from going to low and going out of the ridges if you wanted to dump it.

in the gc's, theres only one piece that control it up or down, if you go all the way down does it fall off the ridges? just curious, i have a problem with mine if i try to turn it, it turns the whole perch

not sure what you mean, like the spring it self is falling off of the adjuster on yours? wow, ya i've never had that problem at all. and i've had my car pretty dumped. (had it damn near sitting on the bumpstops, and mind you i cut my bump stops in half too..)

well yes. kind of. i mean you can get just the ground controls for now, and yes you'll see some increased handling performance. but they're best paired with the koni yellows.
like i said in an earlier post, i'm currently running ground controls with stock struts. thinkin next pay check i may order up some koni's for them though.

just depends on your driving style, and what you plan to do with the car.
me i'm a spirited driver.. to say the least. and also hit the autoX up in the summer.

ugghh had a long ass mission today, just got back. and i'm goin to bed now.

Warning: They make two different sets of ground control sleeves. One is meant for stock struts and the other is meant for koni applications.

Plan and spend your cash wisely.

that can still be misconstrued. that just allows people to use them interchangeably. a strut is as shock and spring assembly. when they're separated they are a disassembled strut, OR, shock and spring. put them back together and it becomes a strut again.

i'm sick of **** like this. if you think this then you honestly don't know **** about suspension. what do you base that off of anyways? have you tried any other setup? have you been in different cars with different setups? is it the best because its the most affordable way to have adjustability? because its cheap and effective? because its not. for the same price you can have a decent coilover set that will give you the same, if not better performance. and guaranteed better ride quality. with GC's, can you adjust your ride height without touching the spring perch? no. but JICs you can. and i only spent 150 more on those then i would have on the GC setup. how many settings do shocks have that you can buy (separately from springs)?? maybe 5 or 6. most, if not all full coilovers you can buy now a days have over 10. JIC offer 15. but that doesn't mean thats the best. its all about what you need or what you plan to use your car for. if you want cheap and effective, GC's maybe the way to go. but don't expect great ride quality. or to win competitions. if you want something that is gonna win you competitions and give you truly the best handling and ride quality you are gonna be spending some money.
