What is the best Suspension for 99 SH?

I bought my 99 SH with a pretty cheap coilover kit installed and needless to say my suspension is just absolutely horrendous!! I am contemplating a new suspension that will lower the car but as i have searched it seems that the SH suspension is more difficult to modify compared to the base model. Can someone explain this in a way that someone whos knowledge of these cars is limited can understand? Should i just go with the stock suspension from the factory (OEM)? I don't think i want another coilover setup.

Re: What is the best Suspension for 99 SH?

I've heard from many people that Tein makes the best coil over setup for our cars, I'm sure many people beg to differ though...

If you want to go with stock suspension, grab some KYB Gr2's. Cheap, and great struts. Pair those struts with some Eibach or H&R lowering springs, you'll be set.

KYB Gr2's? Is this an aftermarket stock strut? Not sure if that makes sense but you did say if i want to go with stock suspension......or were you meaning something other than coilover? Either way you have pointed me in the right direction i believe and truly appreciate it.

Re: What is the best Suspension for 99 SH?

No prob man, yeah I know that's kind of confusing, but the Gr2's are an OEM replacement, but aftermarket, meaning, it's like getting a new set of OEM struts for a better price.

I got mine on eBay for a great price, check there.

Re: What is the best Suspension for 99 SH?

"Best suspension" is a subjective thing. Teins might be a good coilover setup, but then why is it that 95% of the serious Preludes on the AutoX circuit run an adjustble strut (like a Koni Yellow or a KYB AGX) with an adjustable coilover spring (usually Ground Control) with thick sway bars? Evidently a tein setup isn't ideal for that.

Other people might find the tein ride quality to be too harsh. Personally I like the suspension a bit stiff, though I tend to drive across the country fairly regularly, and something as oversprung as the last car I drove with teins would have me wondering which of these small towns I was driving through might possibly have a good suspension shop.

Then you need to factor price into the equation. I've heard a tonne of great things about K-Sport Kontrol coilovers, one of the key things being that they are significantly cheaper than teins. (Ok, I know I sound like I've got something against the green brand, but I don't!)

Decide what you want to use the car for, how much you want to spend, then come back to us.

Re: What is the best Suspension for 99 SH?

If u really wanted to get good suspension go with either JIC Magic or BC Racing. Or if u just wanted to be rediculous see if cusco makes coilovers for preludes

Re: What is the best Suspension for 99 SH?

NO NO NO NO.

I have a 1999 SH and i have read for around two years now on this...seriously..

i first thought what you do..
i want a nice drop with a good ride.
so i bought kyb gr2s and the eibach pro kit springs...
put them on allll excited to see this drop and WTF???
the front of the car sat wayyyy higher than the rear!
then i though..maybe it needs to settle..

well it never went down..
i started reading around and fount tonnnns of threads talking about this.

the thing is to get an even drop you HAVE TO BUY COILOVER SPRINGS..not fulllll coilovers and put the on a low enough strut to make things balance...

so the best hands down set up for an sh is ground control coilover springs with shortened koni yellows.

thats it!

right now i have ground control 400f/350r coilover springs and oem front struts and kyb gr2s on the rear...
reason being...
when i put the gc's on the kybs, even with the coilovers turned down allllll the way..the front was still higher!
i swapped the front struts out for my old oem ones just to see..and BOOM!

I was finally even!!!!!!
best feeling in the world..

so take it from a guy whos taken his stuff off tons of times just to see what the hell would work.

get gc's and short koni yellows.

Re: What is the best Suspension for 99 SH?

Go with a COilover setup. Dont wait ur money on shocks and then springs. U pay an extra couple bills and get a good asjustable setup.
