installed sway bar.. now banging noise from the back

hey everybody. well i just installed a suspension technique rear sway bar in my 99 base prelude. i did it with a friend at his garage, it was easy but the process wasnt (if that made sense). we had trouble getting the screws in and all that but after that it was fine. it seemed like we did a good job. but after when i took it out on the road, whenever i go through bumps i hear a banging noise from the back. only when i go through bumps i hear it. does anybody know why? ive taken a look at the endlinks through the tires but didnt seem like anythin was wrong. i dont want to go to the mechanics and possibly pay for a check up and then pay for him to fix it if i can do it myself. any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Re: installed sway bar.. now banging noise from the back

one of the most epic fails of PZ history. you make 3 of the same thread. 2 are posted in the same forum. one with hardly any info. the other with the required info. and then you post another in a completely different forum, MATCHING word for word the one with hardly any info. and you managed to have all 3 posted in the wrong forums at that. MOVED. thanks for wasting bandwidth.

now on to answering your question.

so i take it you still are using the stock endlinks right?

could be a few things. make sure the bushing mounts are tight. make sure your endlinks are tight. look for chaffing along the bar make sure its not actually hitting something. could have been installed wrong. you're supposed to install it with the suspension compressed as much as possible. it helps to have someone sitting in the car too. you are first supposed to install the bushing supports first. then the endlinks last. everything should be hand tight at this point. then you tighten the bushing supports and then the endlinks.

jack up the back of the car and try to mimic the sound by pushing up on one or both of the rear wheels. it helps to have a friend. stick your head under there and see if you can hear where its coming from. placing your hand on the bar and the endlinks while your friend pushes up on the back wheels helps. you can usually feel for vibrations.

That's noise that you heard is the sway bar try to settle because you are installed the bar with the suspension fully extended. It happened to me before. However, just check to make sure everything are tight.

Re: installed sway bar.. now banging noise from the back

yea im really sorry about he multiple theads. im new to pz and i didnt know wherei even put the thread. i tohught i put it under 5th gen but i guess not. so i thought i didnt get post it. =/...

anyway, i brought it to the mechanic, and the endlinks werent screwed tight enough. mechanic fixed it though. he had trouble gettin the aftermarket endlinks off for some reason so he had to cut it off. i then used my stock endlink for the aftermarket bar (hope it lasts) instead of paying 80 bucks for a new one...

thanks for the replies and help, greatly appreciate it. there is now no noise.

.....................this is off topic kind of. but F**K.... i was driving in a parking lot and there was a big pothole, i went over it slowly but i hit my bumper. now my aftermarket bumper is messed. the very side of it where the bolt is broke off. now theres the bolt with a piece of the bumper, and the bumper. two different pieces :@

Re: installed sway bar.. now banging noise from the back

i dont know if the banging noise is what im going throw but whenever i go through a bump, it sounds like my car is a washing machine in the back and my front driver side as well.

could this be a bushing problem???

i only posted it here cuz i have a progress sway bar and idk if thats somehow the problem
