Re: 225 40R18 Tires on 5th gen

It'll be alright I ran a 225/60r16 on my car with it lowered 2.25" and I only rubbed at hard turns... 225/40r18 will work just fine on a stock height 5th gen... at least never heard anyone complain with that size. If you are that worried about it get 215's instead.

Yeah when I went in to buy new tires I was going to go with 215 but they had a set of 225 maxxis for $229! A guy ordered them and never came back to pick them up. They got his deposit and now they just want to get rid of them.

I was not sure so I went to go look. LOL I got 226/40/ZR18/92W lowered on Tein SS kit. Rubs on hard turns which happens rarely.

Stock 205 50R16 has an Overall Diameter: 24.07 in
225 40R18 has an Overall Diameter: 25.08 in

Diameter Difference: 4.03%
Ive heard that you can have complete brake failure if you increase the diameter over 3%.

Thats probably just with crappy cars with crappy brakes. Im changing my rotors and pads on friday anyways.

Re: 225 40R18 Tires on 5th gen

Im gonna buy the 225 40R18 tires. From what Ive seen they will fit fine. They are also a plus because my car is not lowered so with the 225's I will have very little space between the tire and fender :) I hate cars with rims and low pro tires with 3 in of gap!

The 225 will provide a nice amount of grip.
Good luck with the tires.

Your max MPH on each gear will actually be faster.

VS

Stock wheel and tire size.

What do you mean? Like I will be able to go faster in each of my gears?
For insatnce: 1st gear stock say max 30mph, 1st gear 225 40R18 max 35Mph?
Something like that?

PS When I say go faster Im not thinking about the speedometer because it will be off. Im talking about my actually correct speed.

Re: 225 40R18 Tires on 5th gen

More like this

1st 43 now 45
2nd 73 now 77
3rd 105 to 111
4th 133 to 141
5th 165 to 173

along those lines

not exact numbers and this is with like an 8500rpm's... thats just to give you an idea of what it'll be.
at 7500rpm's it only makes like a 1mph difference. lol

Your talking about my real speed right? Not what my speedometer says?

Does this have something to do with the revs per mile?

Re: 225 40R18 Tires on 5th gen

Yes real speed.

It has to do with the diameter rotation.

Look at it this way

if you roll a wheel that has a well 16" diameter one full rotation and an 18" wheel one full rotation... which wheel will cover more distance?

The larger wheel.

Pretty simple when you break it down like that.

Very good
So this would give me a faster top speed, but would it improve times?

Re: 225 40R18 Tires on 5th gen

You will go faster, you will however have a more difficult time getting there. You will lose torque through rotating mass and again like what was previously said for each axle rotation your tire is moving further. You will have less acceleration. I noticed a difference between my 215/45/17s and my current 215/40/17s.

Re: 225 40R18 Tires on 5th gen

The tires rub whenever I hit a bump or corner to hard this sucks. Dont get 225 40R18's.
If a had harder suspension I might be okay.

i dont know why you're upset i told you this would happen in post #9 of this thread. 18's were never meant to fit on our cars comfortably without some sacrifice.
