need some help! 2'' drop suggestion on springs

i would like to drop my lude around 2inches. right now im running Tenzo R Mesh 17'' wheels with Nexen 215/40/17 tires. i am looking at 2 different springs. the H&R sport (red) springs 2.0 front and 1.8 rear drop. and the neuspeed yellows 2.25 front and 2.0 rear drop. my question is can i run any of these springs or do i have to think of something with a smaller drop? does anyone have any experience with 17'' wheels and have a 2'' drop?
(coilovers or coilover sleeves are a little too expensive for me)
any help would be greatly appreciated. oh and im currently running AGX KYB red struts. so im somewhat prepared for a low drop.

thanks again guys :)

Depends on the offset of your wheels. Have you looked at this?
Recommended Tire size & Offsets!
And I think youre talking about H&R race springs not sports.

i looked up my offset and its 42mm but that means nothing to me lol and im a little confused looking at that thread, can you explain a little further on the how offset works? i mean i know that offset is basically how wide your wheel is but thats it lol. and ur right about the springs, i just got a little confused. thanks for the help though :)

Re: need some help! 2'' drop suggestion on springs

offset is not how wide your wheels are. it is the reference to where the hub of the wheel sits from the inside face of the wheel. i have 17" Tenzos +42mm offset and am runnin a 2.25 inch drop all the way around. i am also running 215/45/17 tires. no rubbing issues whatsoever but you will have to look into camber kits with this much of a drop. struts made for drops are also a must with more than 1.5 inch drop. good choices are Koni, KYB, and Tokico.

Re: need some help! 2'' drop suggestion on springs

I'm also thinking about dropping ~2" all round.

I've looked at the skunk2 lowering springs which seem to be the "best bang for the buck" (http://www.weaponspeed.com/Honda-93-...g-p-18498.html)

Is a camber kit required for this? I have stock rims (16" I think)

I had new struts installed about a year ago so I'm just worried about the camber getting all messed up. I was planning on installing the skunk2 springs myself on the year old struts and getting an alignment done right after.

Anyone have any advice on this?

Thanks!

yes a camber kit is a must with the skunk2's, thats what i am running. i took it in to get it aligned after the lowering and the specs were: 1.5 negative in front and 3.5 negative in the rear. i mean you dont have to get a camber kit, but be prepared to spend money on tires because they will get eaten up.

Thanks for the reply, all this suspension stuff is still a mystery to me.

From what I read on honda-tech having your camber off isn't a big deal but having the Toe off is what really kills tires.

Does anyone run skunk2 lowering springs w/o a camber kit or know of a 5th gen with some pics?

I'm hoping a good 4 wheel alignment will be enough.

Is it possible to install a camber kit yourself? Any special tools required like a 3ton press to get the joints out&in?

Thanks!

Yes you can run without a camber kit, if you like getting only 10,000 miles out of a set of tires... 1.5 and 3.5 degrees off is a huge amount, if your running your car as a daily driver you can get away with a .5 degree maybe even 1, but thats pushing the limit to wearing tires quickly. But having the toe out will have more of a problem with tire wear because its literally "scrubbing" the rubber off the tires.

You see race cars with some camber because in high speed cornering the body of the car rolls slightly and it gives a larger contact patch as the tire rolls to the outside.

There's a sticky at the top of this thread that has a Q&A with regard to camber kits and alignments. There's some good info there to de-mystify the whole camber kit thing
