Tein Coilovers

Ok so I'm sorry if I missed something in my search (I DID search) but you all know how worthless the search tool is.

I was wondering though which one you guys thought was better: the Tein SS Coilovers with Pillowball upper mounts or...the Tein Flex with Pillowball?
thoughts on these?
worth the money?
I do want to go with a full coilover though i'm definitely not getting these anytime soon just wanted to get my sh*t in order for when i have some money.
Thanks and sorry again if this is a repost of some sort.

Maybe he really wants the Tein. Answer the man's question. LOL
I have the Tein SS. It rides great and no problems so far. Good luck with your choice.

Re: Tein Coilovers

I have the Flex with EDFC and while the ride is obviously stiffer then stock they handle amazingly. I actually just had them taken off so I can sell them (I'm an unfortunate victim of the economy). How's $1,200 shipped sound? They have less then 3k miles and will be a year old in March.

Re: Tein Coilovers

i have the flex, pretty much the same as the ss except the flex is a bit stiffer. but the dampening and the height on the flex are totally independent. meaning you're not necessarily going stiffer the lower you go.

What are your plans for the car? Daily driver only, track car, drag car, autox, etc.

Re: Tein Coilovers

Those of you that know me, have heard this before.

For any type of performance application, the best bang for the buck would be used (yes, used) Koni Sports, then send them to Koni to be revalved for higher spring rates (out of the box, they're too soft, IMO). Then buy a Ground Control coilover conversion kit with the baby tubes (I don't think they make the large tubes anymore anyway, but it never hurts to make sure). Then ditch the GC spring isolators and get some of the aluminum ones I can get for you. For spring rates, start at 450/450, or even 550/550 if you get the shocks revalved.

By far better than anything else you're going to find in that price range.

I use Koni race shocks on my car, but I started out with Koni sports. :)

Re: Tein Coilovers

No, but I'll tell you that I've never met anyone that races on Teins or D2s. :)

Re: Tein Coilovers

Well, Koni Sports are street shocks, and are not really race shocks. However the number of people that race on them should say something about the quality and performance of the Koni Sport shock. :) Plus, Koni supports amateur racing. What else can you ask for?!

Even though it's a street car, to me, it's good to know it can perform at the level of a race shock. :)

Re: Tein Coilovers

hmmm...another fine point sir. so how much would all this stuff be costing me for the tubes and shocks etc.

I like D2 over TEIN bc they ride a lot smoother and at the same time maintain that stiffness when making contact with bumps and whatnot from the city streets.

Don't get me wrong...TEIN is good too, but I've had my experience in riding in Preludes with TEIN SS and D2!!! And IMO I jus feel that D2 are more comfortable to my liking, but to each its own!!!

Here's a brief description of what they offer...

The D2 Racing Sports (RS) coilover system gives car enthusiasts the ability to fully customize their suspension system. These coilover systems come with a fully adjustable 36-way monotube dampening system and custom spring rates ranging from 3 to 22 kg/mm. Ride height adjustments can be made easily with the incorporated Teflon coated spring perch and allows for vehicle drop of up to 120mm on most applications. In addition, D2 Racing Sports coilover systems also allow users to make camber adjustments with the included 6061 powder coated aluminum camber plates and upper pillow ball mounts.

All D2 Racing Sports coilover systems are CNC machined to meet high quality standards and are fully rebuildable and serviceable in the United States. With the D2 Racing Sports Coilovers, all suspension components are included in the coilover kit. Suspension components donít have to be purchased separately, eliminating compatibility issues between spring and shock. Every D2 Racing Sports coilover system comes with a limited 1 year warranty.

Features:
- 36-Way adjustable rebound and dampening
- Monotube high pressure design for fade free performance
- Custom spring rates from 3 to 22 kg/mm
- Teflon coated spring perch
- Vehicle drops of up to 120mm, 90-100mm on some applications
- 6061 powder coated aluminum camber plates and upper pillow ball mounts
- Includes keys for ride height adjustment
- CNC machined
- Fully rebuildable and serviceable in the United States
- 1 year limited warranty

Re: Tein Coilovers

I'd love to get a set of D2s on a dyno to see what kind of adjustment range they have. We're taking my Koni race shocks and a set of Penskes to a local dyno in a couple of weeks. A local guy had ordered some D2s that we were going to dyno, but it looks like he backed out of the order. :(

Note that camber plates don't exist for the Prelude since it's a modified double wishbone suspension.
