Rear Toe Issues

Hey guys. I just rotated my tires last weekend and noticed that the inside of my rear tires were worn so terribly on the inside shoulder that the threads were showing...I temporarily put on my summer trim wheels/tires, took the car to the Southern Tire right down the street and tried to get an alignment. They said, since the rear is so low, they couldnt adjust the camber at all or the tires would rub on the fender. I'm only lowered about 1.5 in all around...

Now, I know that Camber doesnt affect tire wear NEARLY as much as toe does..(they said the rear was about 2.5 deg camber and toed WAY out). They suggested a camber kit for the rear and didnt fix the toe problem. (They didnt charge me, so im not so worried). They said not to get the ball joint camber kit...one guy there said he was 100% sure that the ball joint would hit the fender well over bumps. So....long story short...I'm not sure what else to do...

Do yall think I should go back up there, and get them to fix the toe issue and not worry about the camber for now?
Cuuuuz, my pirellis on the SH's are completely shot, and I really dont wanna buy new tires for my RSXs....

this whole thing leads me to believe that when I first lowered the car last winter, and got an alignment, they didn't even do anything. Because I havent made ANY changes since then...

Re: Rear Toe Issues

im thinking that they didnt do anything the 1st time... b.c dont we have the same setup??? and i have zero issues... the guy that did my alignment was cool... he gave me the printout of all the specs and explained to me what measurements were within specs and out and i shouldnt have any issues b.c none were more than about a degree or less out of spec.

unless your balljoints are just shot all together it might not be an alignment issue... when you jack the car up and have the wheels off the ground... is there any play in the wheel if you grab it and shake it back and forth or in any direction??

hope that gives you some idea of where to look

Re: Rear Toe Issues

Well, the guys at the first shop did the same thing, showing me the printout and whatnot, explaining that the rear camber was difficult to adjust since the rear end of the car is so low...But they said they fixed the toe and al that stuff.

But this new shop where I just took the car...they just said the right rear was a little toed out...but it still kept what he called the "total toe" within acceptable limits...Sooo...I'm not really sure what I should do...

cuz I'm about to destroy yet another set of tires....which will be hard to replace as a result of a lack of funds.

Re: Rear Toe Issues

how long did it take to destroy that set? i am lowered 2.25 without a camber kit. i am 3.5 degrees out in the back and 1.5 out in the front. my tires are wearing faster than before, but after 8 months they are just now starting to become bald.

Re: Rear Toe Issues

Well, I put my SH's on when the cold weather came...and i checked them before putting them back on...and the insides were a little bald....but after about a month or 2 or driving, the cords were showing on the inside shoulders...And now the tires that are on my rsx's, which are on now...are bald on the inside....I'm really freakin out. I think I need a 2nd opinion

Re: Rear Toe Issues

yeah that would be good, sounds like you have some major issues further than just camber. make sure your bearings are good as well. those can be cause for some funky tire wear.

Re: Rear Toe Issues

I had the rear tires off yesterday (retightening a loose end link) and i messed with the whole assembly, and its all solid....but sitting wrong. I guess it was too good to be true, a Southern Tire less than a 1/4 mile from my house...Dang. Ijits.

Re: Rear Toe Issues

I have the same problem. Rear tires are as smooth as ice on the inside. I'm 30rings in the rear and 25 in the front.
