would this rub on my car?

I am still running stock tire size on that.

If I went to a 16x7 rim with a +35(46mm) ~ +20(61mm) offset range, would I have really bad tire rub on stock tires?

I am wanting to get these:

Re: would this rub on my car?

following the stickied thread ... you should be fine ...

7" Wide Wheels w/ 4th & 5th Gen

Less than +38mm ::: Not Recommended
+38mm to +41mm ::: Not Recommended if you are, or plan to be, lowered. You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well.
+42mm to +44mm ::: This is a grey area if you are lowered, results vary depending on tire and/or drop. You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well.
+45mm to +50mm ::: You shouldn't have any problems. Recommended Offsets for 7" Wide Wheels. Larger than +51mm ::: Not Recommend. You take the chance of rubbing the inside lining of the wheel well.

I just don't understand the whole offset thing, what does it have to do with rubbing on the wheel wells and all that good stuff?

I know I just hate when people assume before figuring it out, I could have been more detailed about my problem but he could ask me a question first about what my issue is

Re: would this rub on my car?

looking at the car from a birds-eye view, offset is how much the wheel sticks IN or OUT of the wheel well. if you have wheels with very low offset (0, for example) the wheels will be sitting outside the wheel well. this doesn't really present any problems at stock height, but when lowered, its pretty obvious as to how this would present a rubbing problem.

TylerC's car for example:

Re: would this rub on my car?

offset is how far the wheel sticks out each way from the mount point. If you have deep dish wheels (so to speak) they are more likely to stick out from the fender. If they are flat against the edge then they are more likely to stick further out inside towards the engine bay.

Those wheels will be fine. Follow the stickied. Its pretty easy to read. Even if you dont understand it, you can follow which offset you need. (woohoo it rhymed)

Just look ...

for 6.5 7 and whatever else it tells you what offsets work and which ones dont. Just like my previous post ... just follow the numbers.

Re: would this rub on my car?

So would I need to run a wider tire for those new rims? Basically I am wanting to keep the same exact tire/rim size so I do not throw my speedo off. My sister had to run a little bit of a low profile tire on her car and it caused her speedo to go way off so when we got the car we didnt know that and she got a speeding ticket -_-

Re: would this rub on my car?

did you even look at the thread???

205/50/16 - Stock Size, Recommended 16" Size Tire
215/45/16 - Larger Contact Patch
215/50/16 - Larger Contact Patch, Overall Diameter is Larger
225/45/16 - Even Larger Contact Patch, Minimum of 7" wide wheel is Recommended

andddd

Will it throw my speedo out?

circumference = pi*d
circumference = pi*(wheel diameter in inches*0.0254+2*tyre width in mm*aspect ratio/100000)
circumference = pi*(16*0.0254+2*205*50/100000)
circumference = 1.921 m

Then work out the new circumference, devide old by new, multiply by 100 and that is your actual speed at the indicated speed of 100km/h (then convert to imperial, since I'm not sure if the forumla works in feet/miles)

Or use this ---> http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Re: would this rub on my car?

225/45/16

i dont know what those numbers mean, i know the 16 stands for rim size but i dont know anything else.

This is my first time ever learning about tires/rim sizes and all that.

Re: would this rub on my car?

Go here and try it out.
Give or take 18 mm's for the ride height drop.

If you can find the rims you want with a +45 to +50 offset (give or take 2mm) you should be fine.
