Neuspeed Short Shift Adaptor
After much too-ing and fro-ing a good mate of mine decided to take the plunge and order a Neuspeed short shift adaptor. This came after much raving from a few people that I trust and know what they're on about.
Here's what the actual shifter looks like. The one that I fitted was anodized Red. ![]() Upon inspecting the short shift adapter, I was very impressed with the quality of the part. Forget the $50 crap no-name brands that you get on eBay, the Neuspeed one is made from CNC machined billet aluminum, has been colour anodized, laser etched with the Neuspeed logo and comes will all required installation hardware and instructions. Installing the short shifter was a straight-forward affair, with clear, concise instructions that included photos. The short shifter kit included all new bolts, nuts and even the required allen keys. The only way that Neuspeed could have made the kit easier to install would have been if they did it for you. It took us about a half hour to install, and that was with us mucking around while taking the console off. Shift feel after installation has been dramatically improved. Shifts are shorter, crisper and tighter. To be honest, I was surprised to see such a difference from just an adapter. I test drove the car before fitment, and again afterwards, it was a different feel. Seeing as a true short shifter for the 5th Gen has not existed since Lean Racing stopped making them several years ago, I would thoroughly recommend the Neuspeed short shift adapter. Forbidden Motorsports, who have been attempting to make a short shifter for the 5th Gen for over a year and half now have announced that they are still having problems getting the parts made for them, and have advised that they will retail for around $220USD. So as far as I'm concerned the Neuspeed product is definatly an alternative, considering it cost the owner $125AUD (at his door) is a very high quality part and probably most importantly is available now. PROS:
CONS:
So for all of the 5th Genners our there who are as frustrated as I am about the lack of a short shifter on the market, look to the Neuspeed adapter. I thoroughly recommend them.

Re: Neuspeed Short Shift Adaptor
Which one are you talking about? Why would someone get this adaptor rather than just a short shifter?

Re: Neuspeed Short Shift Adaptor
I got one of these for christmas from my rents (lol). But ya i love it, it just makes it an all around more pleasant drive racing or just driving, i would suggest getting an aftermarket shift knob and install it while your at it. But i would suggest this product to anyone

Re: Neuspeed Short Shift Adaptor
Its not a shift knob. You keep your same shifter and knob, you just move the contact point on the shifter.

I got my neuspeed, it is amazing!!! Makes me want to see how that real short shifter feels.

Re: Neuspeed Short Shift Adaptor
old thread, but thanks for the info. I actually see "doesn't lower shifter height" as a pro... it's subjective, but I like the shifter to stay closer to the wheel...
My JTC shifter broke and I have not been able to get ahold of Tommy, so I was looking through some threads and might buy one of these used if I'm unable to get my broken shifter replaced... I'll assume the 4th gen adapter is up to par with this on... I love my NS sport springs anyway... :)

And tbh I like the length of the stock shifter, but some like it a lot shorter, which is why the comment is in there.

Re: Neuspeed Short Shift Adaptor
I gotcha... most things are subjective. I have looked at the 4g and 5g online.. can't see a difference, but the part# is different... who knows?

Re: Neuspeed Short Shift Adaptor
i'm a little behind on this thread, but i just ordered this neuspeed adapter and about to install it soon. now since it doesnt shorten the shift rod length, can a guy cut it down to shorten it if he wants? i like the short shift with a short (in length) shifter, which means a shorter rod that the shift handle attaches to. let me know any opinions.

Re: Neuspeed Short Shift Adaptor
Yep, you can saw off some of the threads to lower the shift knob height but don't go too much where it won't thread on far enough.

weapon r is really good

Re: Neuspeed Short Shift Adaptor
old ass thread, but i found it when searching for info on short shifters so some other people probably will also so hopefully my input will help someone out.
the weapon r really hangs out on the right of the shifter. meaning it hits the bezel pretty significantly when going to fifth. the neuspeed is mostly in front of the shifter, so it doesnt hit the bezel as much when going to 5th. i've had personal experience with both and would definitely choose the neuspeed over the weapon r.

Re: Neuspeed Short Shift Adaptor
When did you get it? Did you have to wait long?
I have one on my 5th gen and am pretty impressed with it, but the transaction was a bit of a mess. When I could get a hold of them they were very helpful, but it wasn't easy to make contact. If you got yours recently, have they got it together now? Or are they still hit or miss? My worry is dropping $175 on a shifter and having to chase them down again.
