Icon7 Tiger Japanese jdm h22 review

I recently bought a jdm h22a from tiger Japanese since my old a4 decided to take a crap on me in the middle of a highway. After searching for months to try and find a quality used type sh motor for a decent price, I pretty much lost all hope, until I found tiger Japanese. I purchased an h22a type sh motor for $2200 with an estimated 25-35k miles on it. I called them to order the motor and the staff was very helpful and could even answer a few questions I had during the the swap. The motor arrived in good condition (a few minor problems stated below) shipped to Ohio for around $170.

The bad: The motor was shipped with oil still in it, which I'm pretty sure is illegal.
the Map sensor was broken off when being shipped. And the FITV was somewhat clogged causing an idle surge when cold. (all are pretty minor problems)

The good: I have currently put around 1000 miles on it and the motor runs excellent, no problems with anything other than what is stated above. VTEC works great easy start up overall the motor seems to be in excellent shape and was a great price.

They also may have accidentally sent me a type S motor, not for sure though, it came with a red top on it and there isn't an easy way that I know of to tell without doing a compression test.

Overall I am satisfied with my experience with Tiger Japanese, it would have been a little worse if I didn't have my old motor to swap a couple parts from but not a huge deal if you're in the situation I was in.

I will try and update periodically with how it is holding up once I get some more miles on it.

Re: Tiger Japanese jdm h22 review

I've heard nothing but good things about Tiger Japanese. That's where I should have ordered my old motor from.

I believe they keep oil in it to prevent rust and it locking up in storage. Mine had oil in it too. Not a big deal though. and most of my sensors were snapped too along with all the lines that would be connected to the chassis. (fuel, slave, etc) but that's because they don't waste any time or care pulling the engine.

I think you can tell by casting numbers on the head and intake what exact engine it is too..

That's reassuring to me cause I'm ordering a H22a (OBD1) next week and reviews on google alot of people say that Tiger Japanese isn't good that its a hit or miss but their ebay reviews for there engines are pretty good. I just like their prices cause its a few hundred cheaper then hmotors.

Re: Tiger Japanese jdm h22 review

Update: I have had the motor since February now and everything seems to be working great. Only problem is I have a bad knock sensor so its running a little crappy right now. Overall I didn't get a crap engine so I would have to recommend tigerjapanese. On a side note does anyone know if the type S is the only jdm h22a that has atts because mine came with a red top says h22a and has atts just wondering if I have a type S or a jdm type sh.

Re: Tiger Japanese jdm h22 review

Another update: It's been in over a year now put 20k miles on it and the motor still runs strong. Analyzed the spark plugs and everything appears great.. Doesn't burn oil (well anymore than every other h22). As far as the motor is concerned I am very pleased now I just need to get everything else replaced (wheel bearings, ball joints, abs motor, knock sensor) and it will run like new.

Re: Tiger Japanese jdm h22 review

talked to these guys last week, thing i found odd was the guy on the phone kept trying to sway me to buy a f20b over the h22a i was asking for. 650 for a " better, more powerful engine' then the h22a. i told the guy i have read on forums that the f20b was just a destroked h22a and actually produced less tourque.

' forums are inaccurate, people say whatever they want on them.go to wkipedia" at which point snickered abit because we all know wikpedia is infalable(l-o-l)

Re: Tiger Japanese jdm h22 review

The h22a that I bought from tiger Japanese is currently in my 95 sr-v. When I got the motor it was very dirty. The air charge temp sensor was busted, the TPS sensor was busted and a couple of other things. We'll, I cleaned it up really well replaced those parts and did the timing job while it was on the palate. All in all, I am happy with it. It runs just fine. Just expect to have to clean the motor and replace a couple things.
