CC Stage 2 Clutch & Light Weight Flywheel Review

History: So this summer I discovered drag racing ! I also discovered that my OEM clutch was not up to the task. So I looked for a new clutch and flywheel that would be ideal for daily driving and occasional drag racing.

What I found:
Competition Clutch Stage 2 Clutch kit $220
Competition Clutch Light Weight Flywheel 13 lbs $200

Competition Clutch Stage 2 Clutch kit Review:

Pros: Clamping force is much better then stock. After each shift it clamps down hard and holds all of the stock power without any problem.

The build quality is vastly better then the OEM clutch. Everything is more beefed up on the CC clutch and it looks and feels much stronger.

Cons: Although the clamping force is a pro for track, for daily driving its much harder to depress the clutch. Driving in heavy traffic for 1 hour just got worse.

Chatter. The clutch now chatters when I take off from first gear. It shakes the whole car! I've tried taking off from all rpms but it always does it.

Summary: The main reason for me buying this clutch was durability. Unfortunately only time will tell that. So far with the pros and cons I'm happy with the cc stage 2 clutch.

Competition Clutch Light Weight Flywheel Review:
I will just go straight to the summary.

When I bought my CC light weight flywheel I thought I would be installing a lighter flywheel then what was already in the car. When I pulled the transmission I found that the previous owner had already installed an aluminum flywheel. WTF so I would be installing a heavier flywheel. If I could go back I would have left the old aluminum flywheel in. I prefer the old lighter aluminum flywheel over the heavier CC light weight flywheel.

At least its still better then stock. Next time I will go with the 8 lbs flywheel.

I would go with a lighter flywheel. I perfer the 8lb one I had on before the swap. Other then that its all good so far. Im happy with it, but I have not been to the drag strip with it yet. That will be the true test

Re: CC Stage 2 Clutch & Light Weight Flywheel Review

ya i was thinkin maybe the 8lb fw, but i think the 12lb would be better for me. just cuz i'm in seattle area alot. so in traffic alot.
and considering i'd still be dropping just about half the weight off my stock flywheel.

Re: CC Stage 2 Clutch & Light Weight Flywheel Review

I not 100% sure but I believe the stock one is 18 lbs. So thats only 5 lbs about a 1/4 weight reduction. If it really is 18lbs stock it may be 20lbs or 22lbs haha I cant remember

Re: CC Stage 2 Clutch & Light Weight Flywheel Review

thought i remember reading that its like 22 or 24 pounds.. like you though i'm not 100% on that either.
none the less it's still alot lighter then the stock one. so should be all good.

They also do an Ultra Light. Still one piece chromoly steel, just less material I guess. Not quite as light as an aluminium one, but close.

Re: CC Stage 2 Clutch & Light Weight Flywheel Review

Did you break the clutch in before you went and raped on it? If you didn't then thats probably the reason it is now chattering. You're supposed to drive for a couple thousand miles babying the thing first.

I've had the CC Stage 2 kit in my car for the past 3 years with no problems.
