Fidanza 8.5lb flywheel

So i finally got my Fidanza 8.5lb flywheel fitted after burning out my clutch on the weekend..and after running it in for 500 or so miles i have to say its probably the best upgrade i have done so far..

The difference in acceleration is awesome, you can actually feel the difference and gear changes are smooth as fcuk..I know how people always make out that I/H/E is always the best / cheapest way to go when it comes to cheap upgrades but after having this fitted its very easy to change your mind ...with the i/h/e option you dont really get to feel the difference in acceleration or speed but with the flywheel you can..

at just over $100 for the flywheel (on ebay) i couldnt really complain.

and i am running a stock blue print adl clutch so there is no difference in pedal feel or take off but the pick up is awesome.

just thought id throw this out there

Re: Fidanza 8.5lb flywheel

Is it easy to drop the trans to replace the flywheel, or should you just take it to a shop. I could just pay my dad if that was case. He such an asshole.

Re: Fidanza 8.5lb flywheel

its not easy to drop the trans...i think mtdtnb did his own clutch change and has a thread about it somewhere but its not easy at all.. u need a four poster lift and lots of tools...i would take it to a mechanic.....luckily for me my clutch was replaced under warranty so all i paid for was the flywheel....i took the car down the motorway this morning and clocking it to 150mph was easy as fcuk....the acceleration difference is mindblowing..

And everyone was saying 8.5 was too light

Is it killing your leg in traffic or the city though?

Super feather asi would call it, No i got my 8lb flywheel and its really just about being easy on the gas because rpms jump, but it really is the best mod you can do for the price.

For chaing the fly wheel and clutch, its easy for someone who is mechinicaly inclines
Remove some parts, starter, battery, etc.
pull axels
loosen bell housing bolts
fit it thoguht the tightets spot in the world
bam your there.
I took me a a day and 1/2 to do this project, 1 day to uninstall and 1/2 day to put back together.
But was alot of fun

WHY IS EVERY ONE SO SCARED OF A 8LB FLYWHEEL?????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????

Re: Fidanza 8.5lb flywheel

I'm always commuting, especially CT to NY almost every weekend. It does take some getting used to but you'll get used to it. It's funny seeing other people try and drive my car though with the flywheel.

Re: Fidanza 8.5lb flywheel

Seems logical that a 8 lb flywheel would be less stress on that starter. Did you torque the flywheel properly? Also too I would recommend changing the clutch while you are there. Just like changing rotors you never change rotors without changing the brake pads too.

Re: Fidanza 8.5lb flywheel

Definitely. I have never heard of another story where a flywheel just "fails." Although, according to the instructions that came with my clutch/flywheel, "Allow 750 mile break in and always adjust free travel on your new clutch at 750 and 1500 miles." Maybe there was too much of this "free travel" between your clutch and flywheel. I dunno. Good luck fixing it man.

Re: Fidanza 8.5lb flywheel

no joke im getting ready to pick up a lightweight flywhele for when i build my motor in a few weeks here but heres food for thought, kinda off topic but still interesting.
i had a neighbor when i was living on the other side of town a old v8 push rod mullet man....or so...w/e he was in his late 50's and had raced cars for his entire life he was the signle most intelegent automotive wise person ive ever met.
i alsked him one day whats the single hardest hitting mod you can do to a n/a motor

his answer was a aluminum flywhele and then take it and have it machined for more performance.

Re: Fidanza 8.5lb flywheel

Just suck it up and get the 8lb. Performance>Comfort. Haha no really...I don't know if you could really even notice the difference between 8 and 11 pounds. From what a LOT of people say, once you get used to it it's no problem at all. Just like learning to drive a stick again.

Re: Fidanza 8.5lb flywheel

Ruin your motor? That's nonsense. Last night I read a huge freaking article on lightweight flywheels, and how people say you lose torque with them. It is physically impossible for a lightweight flywheel to REDUCE performance. I'll see if I can find it again, it was on Honda-Tech and it was some extremely good info. And as far as being a PITA as a daily driver, 90% of the people I've talked to said it just takes getting used to and it becomes second nature all over again.
