Re: Mobil Synthetic

alright so I'm thinking of changing my oil for that Mobil 1 5w30 stuff...

I was wondering, Is it good to change oil grade all of a sudden ? my H22 ran all its life on 10w40 honda oil ( non synthec I guess ) is there any risk in changing grade ?

engine bloc has 40 000 km
head has 127 000 km

thanks for helping guys

Switching to 5w30 full synthetic won't hurt your engine.

Re: Mobil Synthetic

hey I was just about to ask the same question.......Ive heard that its bad to switch, and that it can cause leaks all over the engine.

Re: Mobil Synthetic

valvoline durablend 5W-30 with K&N filter here. no problems. but almost time for an oil change again.

and to westernprelude. if your really worried about switching so fast. use a blend to start with for a couple oil changes and then fully switch over. (that's what i'm doing just to be safe)

Re: Mobil Synthetic

Amsoil is the best, and this really has been shown. Try the google search function. I personally use M1 0w30. I've read a lot of H and K series people who run M1 0w-40. Apparently it's a pretty lightweight oil, closer to a 30 weight than to a 50. The M1 0w-30 is just cheaper and not bad at all, but by no means the best. Royal Purple appears to be all marketing. Fram are bad, mkay? OEM parts like oil filters are often a much better choice.

Re: Mobil Synthetic

So amsoil is best but you're not using it? Is it a price issue?

Re: Mobil Synthetic

Used to buy Mobil 1 at costco when it was 27.99 for 6 quarts. It's been going up steadily and here it's now 34.99. (local walmart was the same price for 5 quart jug)

I went to Walmart and they had a sale for a jug of 5 quarts Mobil 1 syn for $20.00... I went and bought 25 quarts. =D
