Ceramic coating a header? welding?

I'm in the early stages of research for replacing my whole exhaust.

I'm likely going with either a Hytech replica or a Vibrant. I would like it to last, and preform as well as possible.

What I'm wondering is if anyone has any experience with any type of aftermarket performance coating on a header. Should I get the header welded together? I know it has some sort of bolt hardware, but I've heard of people having them welded permanently together so to not have any leaks. If I were to have it welded I'm assuming I would do that first before having it coated, but then again I'm hoping someone has some experience with this or some helpful insight.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Ceramic coating a header? welding?

Well, with a few more hours of research it would seem that welding the pieces together would be detrimental, they are designed to be like that so that when the engine moves the welds don't crack. After it is installed and driven for a while the carbon residue should clog any leaks that were there.

I'm still curious if anyone had coated their header with anything like Jet-Hot and what they think of it long term.

I can't imagine why you would want to weld a set of slip tube headers together but you are correct, you would not coat the headers until you had finished welding / modifying them.

Headers like your are typically siliconed in the slip joint and then bolted together. Though, depending on how tight the slip fit is, most times that area is NOT coated so that they can be be assembled / dis-assembled in teh future like below.

Thanks for the response on the welding. Is it safe to assume that by your name that you are experienced in header coatings?

That would be a fairly safe assumption.

Threads like this always makes me wonder why we don't have more sponsors / seller links on the sidebar....

Re: Ceramic coating a header? welding?

So if I went with the Vibrant it has a flex pipe already on it, you would mask that off I'm assuming.

My big question is what would an approximate price be to coat a header like the Vibrant?

My small question would be what kinda wait and turn around would it be to have this done?

Thanks
