Automatic - Increase Performance

Hi!

I have a Lude 4G.

It is Automatic. Have some problem if I put some Turbo or Supercharger? Or is besser only Aspirated?

Thanks for all.

Re: Automatic - Increase Performance

1) theres no point of building non vtec h23
2) theres no point of building automatic honda

yous should really sell that car and buy manual prelude with h22 OR buy another engine (manual h22) and build it... in this way you can still drive your car and then when the engine is ready just do engine swap

Re: Automatic - Increase Performance

I live in Brazil, but I am traveling (Berlin).
My Lude is a SI H23 automatic.

Sell the car in Brazil and buy another is very difficult, because it is hard find a "good H22".

And about a camshaft + Unichip? I only want some horses, no more than 200! hahaha

The automatic transmission is a *****?!

Thanks for all

Re: Automatic - Increase Performance

I guess the problems with increasing the power of the engine is that the automatic transmission is not very strong. If you want more power out of it, do some things that make your car faster without increasing your engine's power. Lightweight wheels, weight reduction, some performance lightweight pulleys are all easy ways to lighten your car, which means better power/weight ratio which means faster car. And the lightweight pulleys (if you get a performance kind) will increase your throttle response and acceleration

Thanks Garurumon!

Do you know how many kg I can reduce? Has some "prescription", things that I can take off and things that I can buy?

Have some way that I increase the strong of my Automatic transmission?

Re: Automatic - Increase Performance

All depends on what you are willing to sacrifice in the need for speed my friend. Spare tire and trunk trimmings can remove 20kg(ish), power antenna motor can be removed 2kg, you can replace the stock airbox with a lightweight filter 0.5kg, remove sound padding under the carpet inside 8kg, replace stock rims/tires with lightweight ones and larger rims (less inertia) probably can save you 12kg (which equates to about 50kg of rotational mass), lightweight pulleys can save you 5kg rotational mass. Easy stuff.

If you want to go really extreme you can remove the carpets, back seats, all interior trimmings, air conditioning, radio, abs, back seat belts, passenger seat, etc. and with that you could probably shave an extra 150kg.

Just guesses though.

I will Think about what to do!

Is it possible change the transmission? Or I need to change ECU, other things? Impracticable?

Re: Automatic - Increase Performance

Well, you wouldn't want to swap out the transmission itself and reattach it to the stock engine. You would be better off and with less trouble buying an H22 engine, with VTEC, with a manual transmission and doing the full swap that way. It's a huge process. But, you get a car that has a manual transmission, so it's more fun to drive, has about a 40 HP gain over stock due to VTEC, and actually gets better gas mileage due to a lower displacement engine.

If you aren't completely attached to your car, your best bet would be to try and find a manual prelude and sell your car for that one. Which won't be plausible considering your situation.

Re: Automatic - Increase Performance

A H22 vtec is better than a H23?

I think has a few H22 Vtec in Brazil.
H23 has a manual would be better? Putting camshaft Stage 2 and Unichip? How many horse power?

A H23 automatic is fast? Can I race with a car with the same HP but manual? I never race with my Lude, when I could drive, I was under 18! hahaha

thats not really true. with light weight pulleys youll get 0.001 (or was it 0.01 I dont remember anymore) sec faster laptimes IF your car is track car so.... the effects are so minimal you dont notice them at all

you cannot really lose that much weight that it would effect much at all

or do you want that your car looks like this? :

not very daily driving friendly interior...

h22 is every way better than h23.
h23 has 160hp
h22 has 185-220hp

so you have to build whole h23 engine over again with better parts even to get that ~190hp which is h22s stock power. so its completely stupid and waste of money to start building one

h23 with aftermarket cams could get you near 175hp MAYBE so its still slower than h22. and to get everything out of aftermarket cams you need higher compression what h23 offers... so its not wise to spend so much money into that engine

I going to make a Swap, automatic for Manual Transmission!

And I will also make a H23 Vtec! For more Power (220 +), a Camshaft Skunk 2 Stage 2 is great? Or have another things that are better?

Thanks for all

I assume youre talking about skunk2 pro2 cams not tuners (which are waste of money)?

pro1's are better than tuner 2's. pro2's are better than pro1's but they will require higher compression and stiffer valvetrain than pro1's AND with stage 2 cams you need to rev higher because the power is then in higher rpms (around 9000)

remember that you HAVE to upgrade your block/pistons also if youre going to change the cams. you dont get everything out of those cams with that low compression what you have there now!

+ better cams need better valvetrain

and of course then you have to get: better intake manifold that those cams can get enough air, better injectors that your engine can get enough fuel, chipped ecu that you can tune your setup, better header and better flowing exhaust that exhaust gases can flow out properly

like I said: you have to build whole engine over again to get gains, parts have to work together, its not enough if you change one or 2 parts if the rest of your setup is still stock, they WILL create bottle necks there which will hold you back in power wise

read this topic, I dont want to write everything again

Re: Automatic - Increase Performance

Ok, Thank you!

And about the ECU....

If I only make the Transmission Swap, I must to buy a Manual Transmission ECU, correct?
I have been reading a lot, and I have some doubts....
P28 is the Prelude ECU, but cannot accept Hondata
P72 is not the Prelude ECU, but all can work with it and can accept Hondata.
Which is better on my cause, with a Stock?

Thanks for all

hondata is waste of money you dont need it all. you can tune chipped ecu with crome, emanager, neptune etc software

with stock intake manifold which have iabs you need p72 ecu. with aftermarket IM which doesnt have iabs you can use p28

Re: Automatic - Increase Performance

The basemap is for a ECU or tune Chip?

First I will buy only the Manual Transmission and make the Swap. A Vtec ECU doesn't work on my Lude, right?
If doesn't work i will buy a non-vtec ECU and when i make a H23 vtec i going to buy a vtec adapter. Or I want to buy a Vtec ECU?

With Stock engine is not good a tune Chip?
Thanks

you make the fuel maps with program like crome/neptune etc and then burn it to the chip which ecu can read
