Re: rain in the intake

If you plan on doing that, which i honestly dont see any more benefits than just a regular CAI, but Def do a Air bypass valve and put a dry flow filter on that thing. You dont wanna risk any chances. And if that is the route your going to take, you might as well put a little screen on there as well ^

This. Sounds. Bad.

Let me know how combusting pebbles and hydrolock works out for you.

Re: rain in the intake

i have an idea. you should buy a mini freezer and hook it up to your engine bay then connect your intake pipe into the freezer. Unlimited hella mother****ing cold air son!

Re: rain in the intake

That's called forced induction lol

Just drill 10 holes in your intake make
2 breathers
6 vacuum
2 valve cover
An recycle your air for better gas milage :)

Re: rain in the intake

As long as the waters come from "lake minatonka" I don't see a problem.

And preludes are not MR2s, where a roof intake will make a difference. Now an eBay intercooler on your roof with the filter shielded to the elements is a great idea. Make sure it's the same dimensions as your sunroof opening.

Re: rain in the intake

Damn, you guys can be a bunch of dicks when you want to be. The kid asked a valid question and he got 1 helpful reply, 1 question on his setup and the next 10 posts just flamed him for no reason.

To answer the question, it can be done but you will need to make an air box something like this:

The mesh will stop bugs/rocks etc. getting into the box. Any water will hit the back wall of the box and pool at the bottom before running out the drain holes. You may still get a little moisture finding it's way into the intake but it shouldn't cause any problems. The factory cai fitted to 3gs draws air from behind the right headlight, this would also contain moisture on a rainy day.

Hope this helps.
Ausluder.

Re: rain in the intake

A little moisture never hurt. As long as your intake doesn't get submerged in water or even close to it, you'll be fine. My CAI doesn't have the splash guard under it so rain water is always splashed into it, I can even go over small puddles (although I get super worried). My filter is just getting crusty and rusty though.
