It has to be manual if he's going into 5th gear.
We could better asses the problem if you could give us a little more information.

Re: hitting 5300 in 5th gear help

sorry about that' Ok here's what i have going on it's a 93 si with a h23 swap still running the f series trans' i have a check engine light but thats because the vss went out and the tps those are the codes its giving but none of those would contribute to such high rpm's im new to the h serties and such im a b series guy and the d series.
when im driving my rpm's are at 55 to 6k in 5th gear it still runns good has pick up when i get into it so im wondering if any one has had this issue or idea's to what it could be thanx all.

Re: hitting 5300 in 5th gear help

does it sound like the car is actually at that high of an rpm.... f series tranny around 5.5k-6k rpm in 5th gear would put u wayyyyy over 100mph.....

Where does the engine actually idle? you said it idle's around 4k, which i'm assuming you're reading off the cluster....

even with a huge intake vacuum leak (i.e.- idle screw at top of TB missing)...it shouldn't be over 2k. IF it is actually revving around 4k at idle....u NEED to address ur TPS issue. The VSS would through the mph off...possibly jumpy, or not working at all...ur high RPM could be a jacked up cluster, or a totally dead TPS...
