jdm h23a vtec

what's up guys/gals. i am new to this forum so hopefully i am doing this right. i have a 2000 jdm h23vtec and is is bogging in the mid rpm ranges. is was fine before but i have messed up thinking i was doing right. before i had a mugen p28 with an apexi vafcII controller and semmed to work good. however the problem started when i rechipped the p28 with neptune since i did not have the apexi tunned and when i took it in i told them what i had and they said that a tune for a h22 would work so i believe that is what they did. i installed the ecu and removed the apexi vafc because they said it would null out the ecu and ever since it has been doing that. i am thinking i need to check the valve lash and start there but it may be that i need to install the afc back. need help please. thanks for reading this.

leave the AFC off. Neptune controls everything and the afc is only going to get in the way. Who tuned the engine? How much power did you put down? Do you have a dyno chart? How long has it been since you have done a tune up?

a shop who deals only with hondas do not want to say the name but located in north houston. all i did is took the computer in and they just put a new chip the car was not there. i have not done a lash job in about 2 years just changed the oil and filter about 100 miles and cleaned the vtec filter on the solenoid, sparkplugs about 3000 miles ago. they didn't give me a chart should i ask for one?

what do you expect the car to run like when you dont even get the engine tuned. a chip is NOT a tune. Its a person's best guesstimate on what MIGHT get the engine running good enough to drive the car to whoever is going to tune it.

whoever sold you the neptune board should be able to tune the car considering the fact that only real tuners with a strong reputation are allowed to sell and tune the dealer package. Who sold you the unit? Did you get the RTP?

if you didnt know what you were getting yourself into, you should have left it alone.

From the pm he sent me it seems he only has a base map that is giving him a litte bit too much fuel; so he needs to get it tuned.

i'm pretty good at doing mechanical work, i work on turbine engines and electrical sytems on aircraft just need to get pointed in the right direction. should i check the valve lash and maybe upgrade the ignition? the throttle body has work done to it and full exhaust with no cat and i kinda suspected i was geting to much fuel i just needed some people who have more experience than i do to guide me. what about better spark plug wires i currently use ngk? i heard you can ngk wires for up to a good supstancial horsepower just need to make sure. the reason i did this was because that was the next step for me just didn't expect this, it wasn't that i didn't know what i was getting into but more like hmmm..... thats strange. most poeple learn from practical experience and this is one i am learning from. i have no neptune manulas or real literature to go by so i use the sources i can find and get to learn and become efficient at this from people who have been there. this is my fist project and so far so good just need guidance as i go along to help me. i want to max my engine out n/a as much as i can.

yep you shouldn't have any problems out of your NGK wires, but i would get that thing to a shop and get it dyno tuned ASAP

there is nothing wrong with your car besides that is not tuned. Put the stock ecu back in if you dont plan on spending the money to get tuned. Mostly likely you lost power putting that ecu in.

I sent my whole car 8 hours and another country away to have a build and tune done. When you find a professional that is trustworthy, you do whatever it takes to have them work on your car.
Drive the 4 hours, pay what he asks, enjoy your lude.

it honestly all depends on your budget.
if you have the money to switch to hondata, and there are reliable tuners closer to you, switch.
If not, stick with what you have and drive and pay for the tune.
