Air intake

Any one ever try taking off the actual piping for your air intake and attaching the filter directly to the intake manifold? I have a Filter that lets me adjust the size of the diameter needed to fit the tubing so I fit it down to size and slipped it onto the manifold where the Programmed fuel injection air intake slot is and started it up. It ran fine actually and had a lot more of an aggressive sound to it my exhaust was a bit louder as well (not sure if my neighbors like that) anyways Im thinking of building an under-hood scoop so I can have the cold air shoot directly up at the intake and maybe Ill see some differences. My main cuase of action was even though Cold air intakes are cold the heat from my engine still seems to heat my tubing up to a war/hot temp. with this so far the filter while attached stays relatively cool. Any one else tried this or experimented?

Ya, It didnt work out well but I made a bit more of a custom set up where the filter sits downwards from a 90 degree pipe bend straight off the PGFI. The filter sits pretty close to the openings at the bottom of the engine bay so it pulls alot of cold air from below, on top of that the tubing is farther away from the header which is the hottest part of the engine.

Re: Air intake

it may not look pretty but wrap your intake with a heat resistant tape or fabric
