build

since i got my lude ive been plannin on creating a "budget build"
but the more i read, the less i like jdm products, just because i hear they are low quality or not worth the price/trouble. basically they are considered a waste of time? if someone could clarify...
so ive been reconsidering my build, and i want to switch from jdm parts to higher end brands. ive been reading alot about a hytech replica header but i cant seem to find one to buy...
also ive read some about CAI and that its possible to get better results by using the stock intake with a good filter rather than spend money on the cai.. i was planning on getting the AEM v2 cai. realize that im not trying to make alot of power.. ijust want the car to look, sound, and drive better than stock until i get more money saved up to drop into it.
any help is appreciated.

Re: build

please read the rules of each section before you post, this is in the wrong section. moved for you.

its really hard to do a budget build on an H series and expect good power gain. to find a decent header that will actually make good numbers you will have to spend $800 plus (bisi, hytech, smsp). how much money are you looking to spend?

Re: build

Ok, so how much do you plan on putting into this build then?

Ok, so this is my opinion on what you should do based on what I have read.

If you want a better sound and ride quality, and to sex it up a little this is what I would do.

sound/power: Get a k&n drop in filter for your stock air, get a high flow cat or a test pipe, and en exhaust system you like the sound of. I personally was in love with my WS2.

Ride quality/looks: A strut and spring or coilover package of some sort, a set of wheels and tires, jdm one piece headlights, and a front lip.

Keep it simple but this stuff still isn't exactly cheap. I wouldn't worry about the header till it's time to actually build the car.

My thoughts almost exactly. Well besides the test pipe. Go high flow cat. Im not a big fan of test pipes at all. But for everything else, I agree

Re: build

I'd make the car look nice first.. lol jdm headlights, sidemarkers, etc etc. Then I would work up on saving for a suspension..because without a decent suspension set-up you are not controlling that extra power good enough. In a sense you are building "up" from bottom of where the tires meet the road to the engine and exhaust.
P.S either way H22 is already fast enough in my opinion, is there a point to go faster? (unless you tracking)

i dnt really have a budget but if i can save money i will. haha
the header i wasnt getting for the power.. im going for sound quality with it...

as of right now i am getting:

jdm blacked head, tail, bumper, and corner lights
17" black/charcoal rims, not decided what kind yet..
was gonna get aem cai but if that filter will do the same basic thing... then ill go cheap...
a decent header with downpipe and jdm catback exhaust
id like a bc lip or other relatively cheap kit too

im new to imports so i dnt know whats good and whats not so if thre is something wrong with what im doing/getting, tell me.

I wouldn't black out all the lights. I'd leave the stock tail lights and corner lights alone and get the jdm black housing one piece headlights. That's just me though. If you are hell bent on getting a header right away you are on the right track on what to get. I would look into a bisimoto, they are having a group buy right now for a little over $800 and it will show very respectable gains.

Here is a picture of the f22a header, I would imagine the h series one would resemble it.

i actually dnt like the stock taillights at all... they seem cheap to me. maybe if i polished em up or something they would look sharper, but i was just gonna get those "ruby red" tails, with the ring of bulbs rather than just a larger single bulb, and then black out the cover.
the head lights im not as concerned with.. i just want them smoked eventually. ive seen the jdm single pieces and i like em, ill prolly go that route.

im not really hell bent on getting a header, i just read that headers make the exhaust hum lower/deeper or whatever. i dnt want a whiney scream when i accelerate.. but i did read that bisimoto are pretty good.

Re: build

man, no being a dick, but you gotta get your terms down before you use them. JDM is Japanese domestic market, it's not a company. if you want a header just for a good sound, don't buy an $800 header, just get a Megan one and out the rest in a nice catback
