Oil catch can...does it make a difference??

Hey guys, So I was pokin around the H22 yesterday cuz my car has been starting rough and it kinda sputters a lil when I start to get on it. I burn oil like any other Lude so I pulled my PCV and it was gunked to S***. Oil was dripping out of this thing, which i know is somewhat normal. So as you can see from the title i'm debating if i should get an oil catch can. I know its ushually used in FI setups, but i was wondering if any of you guys has one installed and if it even makes a difference in a lightly modded N/A setup. Any feedback would be great....

Re: Oil catch can...does it make a difference??

Oil catch cans are mostly for engine bay bling

On extreme setups, they actually do work and work well. That's of course, if your engine has extreme PCV pressure & if you're running at high RPMs all the time

I had a catch can before on my b21. Now you know i burned oil like a mutha so i tried one out...it didn't help the cause nor did it "catch" any excess oil as it advertised. Of course, mine was an ebay knock-off; a basic empty tin with two tubes and a plastic, worthless indicator. Catch cans should have some abrasive, sponge like material that should soak up and catch crankcase vapors.

A real nice one is here: http://www.theoldone.com/components/breather/

you should start by changing your current PCV valve to see if that helps with your, "sputtering" problem.

I'd like to think they do make a difference, but as B said above, unless you're constantly revving your car then probably the only difference is aesthetic.

All the black on my bumper is from fuel smoke...so how would an oil catching device help the fact that the car runs rich on the high cam?

This really does work guys, a friend of mine has a catch can set-up(air/water seperator with steel wool) on his stock H22 and its catches a good amount of oil.
