sounds very similar to the symptoms i was having, except mine were a bit more extreme b/c my car would actually die completely sometimes after sputtering

my 2 cents...distributor...that fixed all of my sputtering and cutting off and dying problems

Re: need help cutoff problem

I'm going to have to agree, keeping in mind I am familiar with the engine process, not necessarily these engines (IM GETTING ALL LEARNED AND ***T).

I digress....

Its your ignition.....gets yourself a new distributor, and wires (might as well), and you should be good.

Re: need help cutoff problem

Wires/cap/rotor then it might be your distributor or coil. Could also be a fuel problem considering it doesn't happen until you are using the most fuel.

Re: need help cutoff problem

yep like zbucy said.... when ever you get a backfire its usually an ignition problem. h22 distributors are known to go bad. replace that first then go from there.

Re: need help cutoff problem

Why replace the expensive part first? Why not do a couple routine things that probably need to be changed anyways that could also cause the problem. (cap/rotor/plug wires)

Re: need help cutoff problem

usually when the wires /cap/ rotor go bad... it doesnt take an hour then mess up the running condition. usually from first start up it acts up. usually a new distributor comes w/ new cap and rotor. so it really isnt that expensive is it?

Re: need help cutoff problem

Actually most rebuilt honda distributors don't come with the cap or rotor. He said his problem starts at over 6500rpm's not an hour later, so weak spark from a bad cap/rotor/wires could easily be the problem. Are your new spark plugs gapped properly? Ohh and yea it is pretty expensive for a distributor.

Re: need help cutoff problem

It's all good, we are on the same team. I just think it is a good idea to diagnose the problem a little before buying the part.
