need help failed emissions test

Today my 92 si failed emissions and I need to know what the tech ment when he said he was getting no reading? Can it becaused by a greddy sp2 from the cat back or an exhaust leak. When the exhaust was being put on they had to remove an old resonator and put some new piping due to rotting but not all of the piping was redone. Is it possible that the rest of the old piping rotted.

also the check engine light will come on when driving for around 5-10 miles but goes away as soon as car is turned off and on! any advice will be great! called my boy up im taking car to his shop in the morning to look for any exhaust leaks that would limit the exhaust flow. drove it today with windows open and it sound like theres a crack/hole hopefully between the down pipe and the cat

when your check engine light is on, you need to do a diagnostics. Be sure to d/l the service manual for instructions on how to do it. Basically, there is a small gray plug with 2 blue wires secured under the glove box. It's not plugged into anything at all. All you have to do is run a jumper wire between the 2 wires with the engine off but ignition in the "on" position. The jumper wire will make your check engine light flash in a series. That series is the code for which sensor is tripped.

you can most likely still perform the same test with the engine running. It can't hurt to at least give it a try.
