Couple questions about engine swap

Alright, first off sorry if this is not the right section to be putting this. New to the forum and im not sure where stuff goes yet.

On to my question.. dilema.
Couple months ago I got a 4th gen off my uncle because he couldn't sell it. Its the SR version and the engines got a few kms on it (450 000) and the car itself is in quite rough shape.
I really like the car and want to keep it alive so im thinking about swapping in a new motor. What im looking to find out is will this ( http://www.torontojdm.com/lite/cart....ategory_id=120 ) be alight going in it with no major problems? and is it worth it?
Second thing is, I am not familiar with engines at all so should I read up on stuff and attempt to install it myself with help from my dad or should I save myself the trouble and take it to a shop. The only problem with that is that I am 17 and don't have the greatest income to possible afford the high shop fees.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Couple questions about engine swap

yes that motor will bolt DIRECTLY into place. and by directly, i mean our cars came from the factory with that engine, so there will be minimal complications when doing the swap. but what year is your car? if its a 96, you'll have a little more work to do to get it to work compared to a 92-95.

if your thinking of attempting the engine swap yourself, do you have:
-a decent amount of turning wrenches/mechanically inclined?
-a decent tool set? including the basic wrenches and sockets, torque wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, etc etc.
-lastly..... an engine hoist/cherry picker? (which can be rented/bought if you do not)

Re: Couple questions about engine swap

Yes, I have a 92 so thank you for that answer.

And I;m pretty sure Ive got all the wrenches and tools that id need to take it apart. As for taking the engine out I still have to find somewhere to rent one from.

Re: Couple questions about engine swap

if you feel pretty confident in doing it yourself, trust me, its VERY rewarding and satisfying in the end to know that you accomplished it yourself.

if you have a couple extra helping hands, and can afford a solid week of downtime of your car, i suggest trying it yourself. a majority of all the work should only take 2 days, but the rest of the time is for unexpected errors/mistakes/broken shiit that typically happens.

Re: Couple questions about engine swap

Alright thanks alot. Not having it for awhile will not be a probelm considering its just been sitting in the garage for the past few weeks due to the fact that it does not like the cold. (stupid -40's up in canada)
Im guessing I could probably find some sort of guiding for swapping out the motor on the net if I look hard enough and need some extra help.

Re: Couple questions about engine swap

since your car is a 92, you'll also have to wire up vtec from the ECU to the engine. You only gotta do 2 wires tho...if I remember correctly. When I did my swap my car was already pre-wired for vtec
