YES YOU CAN!!!!
-what year is your lude
-how much money do you want to spend
-I would suggest the F22a because it is cheap, an extremely reliable engine, and is good on gas, and you can boost the the piss out of it(Neck),
-the best part about this motor is that it will bolt right up, and will work with the exsisting tranny.
-Auto or stick too??

but you might save more time and money by just pulling the motor out, fixing the problems or doing a rebuild, and putting it back in. This also depends on your knowledge and skill with motors and wiring, also it will be a test of strength because 9 times out of 10 there are going to be some very difficult bolts to take off lol. Having a shop do this for you will be redickulously expensive unless you know someone.

Do you have tools? A place to work on the car? If so, get yourself a Helms and replace the rings and valves yourself. It will *probably* be cheaper than a new motor...although the F22's are cheap...but sooooooo slow.

Re: swap h22a4 for slower

it's a 2001 sh 5speed. never driven in winter and not a bit of rust. i would rather do the f22 swap, because my friend has a garage and he'd let me in for a day or so but he does to much side work to eat up his time with a rebuild. just a swap wouln't take more than a day so i could swing that.... and i could take my time on the h22a4 this summer and do all the internals and beef it up.... but will the f22 wire harness match up as well???

no i think you will either need an extensive wiring diagram, try cb7tuner, they are all about the f22, and try and find a 96 f22a1 cause it is obd2.

or a harness**

Re: swap h22a4 for slower

Ahh I thought you were ditching the H22 for the F22, I was like WTF mate... But yeah, you'll need the F22 ECU and the OBD2>OBD1 conversion harness (unless it's a 96' engine like Michael said).
