What to expect with my build...

Ok so as some of you know, I'm rebuilding the head on my H22 soon, probably during the spring/summer. It's going to be daily driven, so nothing overboard is getting done. I know it's impossible to predict what kind of gains you will get with certain parts, even if it has been dyno-proven on the same motor before. I was hoping to get about 30 whp out of my build, with a tune. Here are my parts:

H22 Head
Port and Polish
3 Angle Valve Job (Headwork done by JGE)

Skunk2 Pro 1+ Cams
Skunk2 Nitrate/Swirl Polished flat-faced valves
Skunk2 Valvesprings/Retainers
Supertech Valveguides
Ported OEM Intake Manifold
Hondata Heatshield IM Gasket
Fidanza 8lb Flywheel
eCtune/Crome Tune (Chipped P28)

Like I said, I know it's impossible to predict what kind of power you will get out of a build, but is 30 whp way too much to expect out of this? Just a little curious to hear from some of you other guys running built heads. Thanks!

Re: What to expect with my build...

I think 30 is fine to expect. Tuning is the best way to get power outta the engine, especially with cams. The P&P and new springs will do you good as well. And the 8lb flywheel is perfect for adding whp without doing "engine" mods.

You gonna dyno it?

Re: What to expect with my build...

Not sure exactly what you mean, but just to be comprehensive...yes? Lol. I'm gonna get it on the dyno to get a baseline for what it makes now. After the build I will run on a basemap (will probably only be driven from the garage to the tuner's on the basemap), and it will be street-tuned (for partial throttle and all that good stuff) and then dyno tuned for WoT and all that good stuff. Besides saving money for parts, the only problem is finding a good tuner around here. But it seems that I have plenty of time to look around.

Re: What to expect with my build...

nono you got it mixed up. a basemap is just that: a BASE tune that you use to limp/drive the car to the tuner on, where you then get the car street or dyno tuned.

to get a basemap, you buy a chipped ecu from either phearable, xenocron, your tuner, or anyone else who chips ecu's, and they put the basemap onto the ecu.
i have personal experience w/ both phearable and xenocron. my turbo H23 started up on the FIRST crank with the phearable basemap, and i've gotten both street and dyno tuned by chris harris of xenocron with outstanding results.

Re: What to expect with my build...

you confused me when you said your gonna initially start out on the dyno, then run on the basemap, then street tuned, then dyno. ya digg??

i was just makin sure you knew how it worked, cuz i was maddd confused about the basemap/ecu/tuning business w/ my first build.

I'm pretty sure I know how it works haha...All I do is read about this **** since I don't have a job. (kinda pathetic eh?) I meant I was just gonna go hop on the dyno one of these to see what my car makes for power right now, so I can see what I gain after the build/tune is done. Ya dig?

Re: What to expect with my build...

Me too. My mom's best friend from high school is in charge of staffing at a big warehouse here, I've been talking to her about a job, it's like 40-60 hours a week, $12/hr, full benefits. If I was workin 60 hours a week there, I could put away $2200 a month just for this car. If I DO get this job, I'll probably just say **** the head build, and go balls out with it (still N/A of course). But until I actually get a job, it's kinda on hold. All the money I have saved is basically for surviving lol

Re: What to expect with my build...

Sadly enough, yes. Haha. Actually, I STILL haven't gotten my last paycheck since I got "let go," I'm about to sue the mother ****ers that owned the bar when I worked there. It's only a 36 hour paycheck, but still, it's enough to make my next car payment. I have the money regardless, but it's just the principle. I'd rather not dip into my savings when I could just use a paycheck that I SHOULD have gotten a week ago. Inconsiderate pricks always ****ing my **** up. One of these days man.

Seriously man, you should talk to em or go after em! But if you get that new job, that would own! I work ~12-15 hours a week part time cause I'm in college. It's enough to make the car payments every month + gas + food. I have about 300-400 a month that I can spend on car parts lol
