:::Ataranine::: 1997 Honda Prelude Base

Hello there. Been out of the Prelude game for a long time. Just picked up a Eucalyptus Green Pearl BB6 yesterday.

I used to own an Automatic EGP BB6 years ago. Piece of crap transmission. This is my 4th Prelude.

The motor in it is from a 99 Prelude. Not 5 hours after I took possession of the car, it developed a rod knock. That's fine. I fully expected to replace this motor some day. Just wasn't expecting it so soon lol.

Anyways, on to the good stuff.

Not perfect, has some dents and dings here and there.

All oem! Even has the tan Prelude floor mats all around! Tan on black interior. Always been a huge fan of the EGP Ludes, so I jumped at the opportunity to get this car. Interior is clean as fukkkkk.

Even has the owner's manual. With the original owner's name in the first page! I won't upload that since it has her address and stuff.
It's in bad shape but... hey.. it's almost 20 years old!

Engine mods:
None except crappy intake with a dirty K&N filter, and a no-named exhaust; sounds great though.

Exterior:
Stock as hell
Stock wheels riding on some ugly ass mud+snow tires.

Interior:
Stock everything except the shift knob. Blox Gold spherical 490g.

Suspension:
Stock. Saggy butt in the rear and lifted Jeep status in the front! Will change though!

I.C.E.:
All stock except for an Auto Mate keyless entry system. Pretty cool, it even automatically locks the doors when you turn the key to the On position and unlocks them when you turn the key to the OFF position.
Oem Honda radio and speakers.

Future mods:
New engine. Will most likely be going with a JDM H23a Vtec for the slightly longer stroke and higher torque..not to mention it's a couple hundred dollars cheaper than a JDM H22a.

New wheels. Will probably go with some Whistler KR1s in polished silver or chrome finish. I'm having trouble deciding on the size though. Anyone care to chime in? I was thinking 16x9 +25, or 17x9 with a slight stretch on the tires. Nothing too aggressive. Whistler Wheels

Suspension. Probably gonna go with some Ground control sleeves on Tokico struts. I'd rather have a two-piece system in case I need to rebuild at a later time.

Anyways, feedback is welcome.

Thanks bud. I wouldn't rather have any other car. There's just something about Preludes...
I got some stuff in store soon hopefully!

EGP!

Got to work on the underside of the car yesterday. I was gonna remove the intake snorkel and butterfly valve but I decided to leave it in. But there's some carnage!

Removed the bumper to get to the intake snorkel. Previous owner told me he lived on some ****ty muddy roads. There were huge CHUNKS of mud in here before I took the pics.

Of course, it's missing tabs and bolts. This was the previous owner's solution to the saggy bumper in the front.

Literally the only thing holding the bumper on the car other than two bolts going trough the front grill and bumper.

Long road ahead of me. lol Hopefully soon a heart transplant is in order.

Re: :::Ataranine::: 1997 Honda Prelude Base

I love the platform you're starting with. Once upon a time, my interior was tan. Get that wrenchin' momentum and don't stop til you break a rib. But still keep trying. Baahaha!

Looking forward to more..

Thanks for the support bud. Lol I'd rather not break my ribs. Gonna try to avoid that at all costs haha.

Click on Lindsos sig.
Red side takes you to car 1, champagne side takes you to car 2.

I separated ribs once. Long story that involved a bmx bike, 36 year old dummy and a pine tree. Actually rotated my cage. It popped back into place and I knew it was gonna be brutal the next day....and the next 60 or so actually lol.

I retired that foolishness at 38 and went skateboarding at 40. At 47 hung that up, sat around bored outta my skull a year or two then went PRELUDIN'!!! Much safer. lol

It was a good ride. My ambitions far exceed my talents.

Now to brass tacks....
Check out hondapartsnow.com for some new stuff like tabs, clips n keepers. Note NAPA has great potential as well.
But at HPN if you want to know which part swaps, you type in the part number in a search bar and viola. List populates.
I don't tell many people this, but you can do same at the acura site they have too.
Great for finding out which parts from cars that litter your local junkyard will work.

Also roadkillcustoms.com has a link at the top to populate nearly every junkyard in your state.

And the ever faithful car-part.com is a great source for used parts.

Oh, and in the for sale section Prelude1897 usually has one he's parting out. He buys crashed/broken preludes and sells us parts cheap.
I like to say 20% of my car came from Texas. Between my son and I we've bought a slew of parts from him.

Re: :::Ataranine::: 1997 Honda Prelude Base

^^ the green and tan are probably the rarest parts.
Yet because of that possibly still many new items still available due to lack of demand for them.

Best of luck! And HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Thanks bud. Haven't had a whole lot of luck with preludes in the past. Lol this one's gonna be done right.

EDIT: Your boy is one step closer to getting her back up and running again!
Just found an H22A for $750 with 60k~ miles. Will be looking over the paperwork for it and compression testing it before buying though.

To ogsmakdade: I'm gonna be honest here. Probably should have taken your advice years ago about the Auto BB6 I had. Lol I was stubborn and dumb.
But I guess it's one of life's lessons no one can really TEACH you.
Just have to live and learn I guess. Lol. Oh well.

Thanks bud.

The engine blew on me yesterday. I try not to drive it much but yesterday I had to.
Not sure where the damage is but I'm assuming there's a hole in my block somewhere now.
I got out of the car at work and saw oil literally flowing down the parking lot. Lol
Prelude down.

No worries. She's back in a couple weeks. Either with an h23a vtec or h22a. Not sure yet.

Why you say that? Because of the slightly longer stroke and higher torque?
I'm almost certain the H22a I was looking at is from a 5th gen SiR. Should be like 217-220hp at the crank. Whereas the H23 is 197.

But if I have the shop order the H23 it'll take a couple weeks to get here most likely, so it will give me some time to save up for the labor costs for the shop to install it, since I'm not mechanically inclined enough to do a swap myself.

Decisions, decisions.

Get back to me though, bykfixer, I'm interested in your input.

Re: :::Ataranine::: 1997 Honda Prelude Base

So I decided I needed another car while this one is getting a heart transplant.
Also decided, "why not another Prelude?"
And since I LOVE 4th gens, I went looking on Craig's List.
Found this for a stupid low price.

It needs a repaint. BAD. Lots of surface rust. MUST remove that ugly ass tint from the tails, before I get my ass pulled over.
And all those stickers are coming off! LOL
1994 Prelude Vtec (BB1).
So now I have two projects lol. I'm just gonna drive this one while fixing the other, since I'm tired of getting rides to work every day.
And once the green one is fixed, I get started on this one. :D

I paid slightly more than that but the motor itself has around 60k and the chassis has 220k. Its the original motor but it was freshened up in the bottom end with a new timing belt and such as well.
Also has some comp cams and a tune. Vtec feels like a turbo lol. Fun little ride but I'm gonna baby her while I get the other one fixed.
