:::Wing8806::: One update per hour worked, Restoration round 2!

I've been against making a build thread anywhere but PreludeCentral for years, and i'm somewhat sticking to that. This thread is more so a steady restoration progression thread - a little motivation for those looking to get their hands dirty and work on their cars. To show that these projects don't need to be rushed or require a ton of money, just a little patience and the right tools.

Keep in mind: I've been collecting parts just for this resto for over 3 years, the car has seen under 18,000 miles in that time (of that, less than 3,000 in the past 15 months).

The rules:

I will only work on the car for no more than 1 hour a day.

If I miss a day, than an hour can be made up during another days work.

For every hour worked, one progress update will be made.

If my daily needs work, the hour for the Prelude will not be made up.

The goal is to be done by the end of August - giving me a total of 43 hours remaining to do what I can (on top of the 4 hours previously worked prior to this thread)

Should be interesting, right?

Knowing that I can strip the body and engine bay within 8 hours solo, this will be interesting, as i've not tinkered with much of the underside of the car.

Engine will be coming out again.

All original balljoints/cotter pins never removed. All original bushings.

This is primarily a suspension overhaul/undercoating project. And some.

Every piece from the header to the catalytic converter to the pipe was welded by hand, 100% custom. The only parts that are off the shelf are the Vibrant resonator and Greddy Evo2 muffler (from my old system that lost a fight with a manhole cover)

We'll see what the Prelude has to say about that.

Glad to see this thread.
If the yungstuhs wanna see the round 1 they'll have to join Wilson over at PC...

Re: :::Wing8806::: One update per hour worked, Restoration round 2!

Dang, this would be quite the boring thread if I was doing it. Hour 1) jacked up the car and tried to work out how to get it on a stand when the reach of the jack is 1/2 and inch too short, then mess around with blocks of wood and try not to get myself killed. Hour 2) break for lunch. Hour 3) Try to find the right tools in the swirling entropy I call a workbench.... you get the idea.

You sir are a madman but bulk respect for the amount of work you're achieving in a short amount of time.

Due to the heat today and tomorrow, looks like i'll be making up 2 hours sometime this week.

Just when things were moving along - minor setback.

.
You're not alone sir.
But, if you tell the story right it's an inspiration to us normal folks...
Lots of pix helps too...

Wings is a machine...born of an assembly line...
So while we're in analog mode he's in digital....

Yeah, the typo gave me away.lol

But 2 previous posts elsewhere were doubles...
Verizon cell phone signals sends my texts out 3 and 4 at a time sometimes...then again the next day at times..so I figure that's the cause on my posts...

Re: :::Wing8806::: One update per hour worked, Restoration round 2!

Hour 7: This is when things slow down a bit...

Removed all retaining clips and plugs
masked off rear of car
wiped down entire rear
degreased rear bumper support

Will be prepping and painting the support tomorrow while it's on the car. I feel this will be easier vs attempting while off. Only the base coat will be done for now and top will wait until it goes back on the car. Cutting out any bad metal and scuffing down the area is also on the list.

Re: :::Wing8806::: One update per hour worked, Restoration round 2!

Hours 8 + 9

Prepped the bumper support with POR15 metal prep
(2) POR15 base coats
Scraped at more surface rust on the back side of the trunk - will be removing paint until clean metal is found prior to sealing everything.
Brought coilovers home to prep and match paint.
Continued to search for mystery oil leak in daily....

Will be moving onto the sides and underside of the trunk by Sunday - original play was to drop the gas tank, but I decided to have everything else prepped and base coated prior to doing any cutting.

Re: :::Wing8806::: One update per hour worked, Restoration round 2!

Hour 10

more masking
(2) coats of POR15 top coat in chassis black on the bumper support
removed more dyna mat from the inside of the trunk (previous owner)
located bolts and removed bumper support

Take note as to where the surface rust is on this car.... I have two spots straight through the trunk from sitting water. I will be patching and sealing these.

Keep this in mind as these are potential locations for rust on ALL Preludes, other spots are the well known quarter rust and rust beneath the seats due to clogged sunroof drains. The cause of my leaky trunk is still unknown - however I have a good idea it's due to a tail light not seating properly on the gasket.
