:::lildeadman::: 1998 Prelude Base

As of now, other than the tires and radio, everything is completely stock.

I have four pictures as of now, but will take/upload more later showing interior and maybe engine bay after I get it cleaned. I'm going to use this as a timeline you could say from stock to show car. I'm not really looking into building on to it much because it's the automatic and I'd rather not spend thousands just for the trans to crap out on me, so make it sound and look good as well as slight performance parts here and there is what I'm going for.

I bought this as my first car for $5000 which included a free check up, timing belt, water pump and other basic maintenance parts replaced. The odometer is around 154,000 miles

:::Interior:::
Pioneer DEH-1300MP
(Stock premium package speakers?)

:::Misc.:::

:::Future:::
  • STR or AEBS Cam Seal
  • Looking into getting a Oil Catch Can
  • Manual Belt Tensioner from H23
  • Hondata Heatshield Intake Manifold Gasket
  • 4-2-1 Headers (Recommendations??)
  • Cold Air Intake
  • Mugen Twin Loop Exhaust with either no cat or high flow, unless anyone else has any recommendations on this as well. I'm pretty open to these 2 things, I'm looking for a mix between sound, looks and some performance.
  • Upgraded Sound System
  • Coil Over Kits, looking at F&F as of now or just do air ride. I live in a city with crappy roads though, so probably not.
  • Leather Interior or [insert brand name here] racing seats
  • Red Valve Cover
  • Hail Damage Repair :/
  • Red/Chrome Honda Emblems (front & back)

Note: List is still incomplete, just the main things off the top of my head but I know I'm forgetting a few things..

:::Things to consider/reminders:::
Vibrant Headers
Tranny Cooler

Re: :::lildeadman::: 1998 Prelude Base

Cool. Sounds like a fun project.

I'd reccomend you search out proper oil cooler add on for that auto tranny so as to preserve it as long as possible. There is a lot of info out there for the accord and oddessy tranny failures. The why's and how to prolong or even prevent it. Mostly what you read about for preludes is '5 speed swap it'.

Looking forward to seeing your progress over time.

Re: :::lildeadman::: 1998 Prelude Base

Welcome to Preludezone. Nice looking 5th gen.

A good 4-2-1 header I would say is Vibrant, stay away from headers from dc, megan, ebay chinese headers, They are just shiny stock replacements, unless if you just want a shiny stock replacement.

I hear good things about BC Racing coil overs, a bunch of people hear usually recommend those over others.

If you do a cat delete I recommend getting the dummy O2 sensors. They keep your CEL(check engine light) from coming on)

First things first all or any maintenance that still needs to be done, tranny cooler to preserve what life you have left in you Automatic , and I would start research for a five speed swap.

I checked out those coil overs, and on Ebay I could only find a few listings. But do they really fit 92-01 lude's? Seems kind of iffy to me..

I'll be sure to look into a tranny cooler too, I'd like to keep this running for as long as possible seeing as this is my daily driver

Thanks for the feedback!

Quick question: Do you know anything about Andy's Auto Sports? I've been using the site mainly as a reference for a few parts here and there, but I don't know if I should trust (let alone bother with some of the prices) them with purchases.

They have them for 92-01, you can get the BC racing with custom spring rates.

Also a popular suspension modification instead of coil overs are Koni Yellow shocks with ground control spring.

Also keep out of the manual shifting on the automatic, I hear using the manual shifting and racing it around greatly decreases the life span.

I havent done any business with them, I have heard of it, but I scrolled through the site nothing I would really want.

Hey man, was wondering if you had any personal suggestion on HyTech Headers? I talked to one of the guys from HyTech and they told me the headers would run me $1250.. I've been looking at the replica's as well and was wondering if it's even worth looking at these replica's or if I should save my money for the legit headers? Cause it's about an $800-850 difference, and I'd like to have some money left for an exhaust system as well as an intake.

I'll post in the actual 5th gen forums though and get other peoples opinions as well.

you dont really get performance out of mugen. it narrows to the cat. so you have to cut it......
just get 2,5" custom piping or even better 3"
