SHlude

All Gen. Prelude Service Manuals
^^ This might be handy.

Also remember: majestichonda.com, car-part.com and roadkillcustoms.com for parts.
HandA accesories has some new parts and parts geeks.com does too.

Enjoy

Nice, I paid $2800 for mine too! Except it's a '95, but I did get it with 85k miles. About to hit 89k now..

Oh, and if I were you, maintenance first (i.e. timing belt), but that's just me, wouldn't want a modded car that can't run..

Re: :::Prelude_V::: 1998 Type SH

Little up date about a week ago decided to get a k&n drop in air filter. No big mods what was left of the old one was just filled with dust some bits of leaves. Didn't do anything sound wise but defiantly a little difference as far as driving. thought about taking out the resonator. But didn't want to "pretend" like I sound cool. Moneys tough right now but every little bit of cash I can put to the side I put away for parts. Thinking of picking up some rsx '05 wheels for the spring summer. Too many pot holes up in jersey.

Re: :::Prelude_V::: 1998 Type SH

K&N drop in is money well spent.
Honda did good on the stock air box. It aint sexy but it works. The k&n adds to it's efficiency.
Maybe a type s could be on your wishlist for air box upgrades. Everything else is a waste of money as in no improvement. Possible down grade.

Wings8806 has a genuine cold air intake that works as well as it looks. Check out the wire tuck thread for a pick of the real thing.

Yeah it was a little difficult to take it out. But I managed to figure it out. I'm a noob when it comes to cars. But I'm always either reading or seeing things that happen since I work at a dealership.

Yesterday I was driving fine. Got to my job to do some paper work washed my car and was heading to the mall. Got on the highway went to first. Shift to second and outta nowhere my rpm were at 7k. I freaked out. Luckily enough the highway wasn't busy pulled over and made it to a secure spot to listen or see anything wrong with the car. Did all my diagnosing of problems that can be wrong. I had pressure on my clutch pedal, went through all my gears in and out and out of order to make sure there's no grinding (lol ). car starts fine but but when I go into first gear, no go. Called my cuzin (certified Mercedes master technician ) diagnosed my car over the phone with the result of my clutch was done. but I just gotta investigate it. I figured it was going to happen soon or later as far as I know that's what it may be.

Didn't want to make another clutch thread so I guess ill put it up on my build thread. plus I didn't want to be that guy. I did buy the car used 3rd owner now. I only put about 8k on the dash. So yeah. This is also my first manual transmission car. But as far as the concept of driving sick some people get it some others don't. I am new to driving sick but I drive pretty good compared to some others... who knows how the previous driver was.

Any who, tomorrow I'm going to bring it in the shop and take a look at it some more. For now I'm stuck with out my car. Sucks but when its fixed ill be a lot happier..

What REALLY sucks I had just washed it . now its just sitting there.

decided to take some pano's since I was wait for a tow truck. lets hope its not too bad.

Bummerrrrrrrrrr.

Hope you get it solved soon.
It sucks having a boat anchor sitting in the driveway collecting bird poop.

Re: :::Prelude_V::: 1998 Type SH

Just an update got the trans checked out. Everything seem to be fine no clunky sounds a when shifting gears just no go. Going to investigate in dropping the trans and seeing what the problem is. Since the trans is coming out I ordered a new clutch by exedy. Should arrive as soon as early next week. In essence I want to replace anything that may be some trouble before it becomes a problems when the trans is back in.

So far signs that I see is. 1. There might be something wrong with the imput shaft. 2. The clutch.

I'll update soon as I know whats up. Any suggestions of what to keep my eyes pealed.

alright so, car a success with getting the trans out with a couple of minor issues in taking it out and figuring out" how to" didn't really think the service manual would give you a step by step instruction to do it properly. since my cuzin and I didn't really know where to start we starting from the top of the motor by the airbox batt etc. once the trans was out we immediately saw chunks of clutch material just flying off in shards.

we almost decided to deal with the pressure plate and the clutch the next day. we ended up staying late after work till 1030 so our brains were fried. but we were both like might as well do this last step before we go home. we saw how the pressure plate had groves in it. I was pretty much on my last bit of clutch material.

back story when I bought it the clutch wasn't so bad or so good. from what I know it coulda been replaced and considering this is my first manual car. I was easy on it. not poppin v-tech every waking moment.

didn't really take much pictures of the process. but the clutch since I was kinda amazed of how long it lasted if it was the original.

we put everything back together with more ease than taking it out. changed the trans fluid, atts fluid and the oil while everthing was it was in the air. now I just gotta get use to how it is now. before the clutch engagement point was high now it sits completely lower. im just taking it easy around the city to brake it in before I hit the highway. not much of a racer when it comes to being on the highway or anything so hopefully I don't get tempted cause my clutch grabs a lot better than it did. took a pick of it (second photo) just yesterday washed and ready for its next adventure in the garden state. hopefully nothing big happens. but for now ill get back to saving up for parts and enjoying the cruises to meets or the beach or even seeing another lude on the highway and cruising together.

Great story.

Way to hang in there and get it done.

What brand of cars is the dealership you work at?

Edit:
I like the two-tone paint on your car.

thanks man. it was alot of back aches. esp it was my first time. and to answer your question i work at a mercedes benz dealer in central jersey.

as far as the paint goes. it does look clean just a bad clear coat job makes the hood look a little pink vs. the sides which look alot better. hopefully ill paint it back to the original color all around.

Cool!

I asked what brand car because if you worked at a honda dealer I was going to pick your brain for not so easy to find part numbers.

so haven't updated in a while. hit 132k this morning heading to work.

decided to work on my front brakes. R.front caliper was seized. decided to take the safe route , purchase pep boys replacement calipers pads and new rotors.
got new Honda lines with all the hardware. didn't want to run the chance of braking 16 year old hardware. everything worked out fine. no more wobbling of the steering wheel. but unfortunately my right front upper control arm ball-joint is doneski and in need of a new one asap. and my Left front is going. pictures will come up when i get home from work. but overall question if i purchase new control arms(with the ball joints ) . and possibly decide to get coil overs would i run the chance in messing up the control arm ball joints. OR what should i research for in regards to the whole thing?

If you want lower your car eibach/spc camber adjustable upper ball joints seem to handle that decision better than stock ones

Re: :::Prelude_V::: 1998 Type SH

okay so after some time and money well spend. i purchased new UCA on both fronts. was an easy job. decided to keep the car rolling as a daily instead of trying to do the fancy stuff. although it would be nice to show it off a little but that will wait i guess.

since i got new Uca's also got some new tires with and alignment. so far the car is driving pretty good. handles way better than before. with mounting on the new tires a few of the rims are bent a little. hopefully it doesnt make a big impact later on. i mostlikly have to change my daily route back and forth to work. i do have some engine work id like to do. there is a cam seal leak near the Vtec solinoid (sp?) dont know about tackling that yet with the holidays coming up.

looking into finnally getting some fogs and HIDs just so i can at least see at night maybe.

thats pretty much it for now. stay luding guys and gals

Sounds like you've got that bronco pretty tame.
What I mean is you've done some work many shy away from or don't do correctly.

Seals are pretty much normal maintenance with these cars. Hopefully you got an alignment where they give warranty for future alignments because with those UCA's that too is normal maintenance if your roads are typical...as in manholes and potholes.

Haha yeah. I guess so. I'd figure let me get the car caught up to speed. And have it be a solid car first. (Considering I'm around 137k).

I work at. Mercedes Benz dealer. So when and if I'm in need of some help. There's someone there to do so. I think I'm way over due for a timing belt. Which will probably be next on the list. I'll tackle everything I can while I'm in there.

Re: :::Prelude_V::: 1998 Type SH

There's debate on manual tensioner vs auto tensioner for the timing belt. We went with an auto on a recent project. Either way you go, just ensure you buy a new tensioner each time you change the belt.

Re: :::Prelude_V::: 1998 Type SH

Alright heres the problem, my parking lamps/rear brake lights seem to be cutting in and out randomly at times. I have searched the forum for something along these lines but I haven't seem to find a match regarding my problem.

I know at times when it did happen right above the fuse panel (driver side left side near my clutch ) there a set of wires connected to a module of some sort( forgive me for terminology ) if I move it around in its position it can flicker the lights on and off. Can someone point me in the right direction.

Thanks for reading

^^ This might be handy.

Also remember: majestichonda.com, car-part.com and roadkillcustoms.com for parts.
HandA accesories has some new parts and parts geeks.com does too.

Enjoy

Re: :::Prelude_V::: 1998 Type SH

Well that's connectors to check, sure. Check the ground at the fuse box and all fuses (23-40's pages) as well as the connections at the bulbs themselves. That's a pretty typical place for erratic current flow. Especially the ground side.
