:::elspectro29::: 2001 base

It's finally here. I met this car's previous owner at a meet back in December, whereupon he explained all the problems with it. He said he was ready to get rid of it, so I offered him $800 for it. It needs another engine, but I've been planning for that anyway.

Current mods
Engine:
H23 VTEC
Innovative 75A mounts
Stock M2Y4 transmission
Exedy OEM replacement clutch
OEM flywheel
eBay braided clutch line
DC header
AEM V2 intake
GReddy muffler
Cruise control deleted

Exterior:
Debadged except for a carbon fiber rear H badge
OEM optional lip kit
Vis carbon fiber hood

Suspension:
Neuspeed front strut bar
DC rear strut bar

Brakes:
OEM rebuilt calipers
PowerSlot rotors
Hawk HP Plus front pads (hit VERY hard)
Hawk HPS rear pads

Interior:
DC short shifter adapter with Momo boot and ICB Type R style knob
Trunk gutted
Mugen pedals

ICE:
Pioneer deck with aux and USB jacks

Misc:
Factory tinted windows
CL1 Accord Euro-R wheels
Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 tires

Future mods (God willing)
Better header and (maybe) exhaust, plus an engine management system for them (Vibrant header owned)
Bigger rear sway bar (owned)
Suspension upgrades
Type S fogs (owned, need wiring harnesses)
Weight reduction
Restoration work

How about those DEPO headlight housings?

Thanks guys. Photos hide a few imperfections but it's in better shape overall than the other two.

Re: :::elspectro29::: 2001 base

While Lucky was out sunbathing, there were 5 preludes visible, all black but one. The guy across the street comes out and says his daughter turns 16 soon. He said see-ing all those preludes makes her want a prelude.

He asked which one she could have. I said 'the red one... it's auto.'

Maybe we should petition the local city to change the name of the street to 'prelude lane'.

You'd know that'd spur a VA roadtrip.... Prelude Drive.... Even the street recommends you to!

Thanks. I was waiting on him to get another daily. I've already begun working on it. First thing I did was pull off the fender liners and spray rust neutralizer in the afflicted area. It probably won't be on the road again until the fall.

Yeah, it was quite a deal, even though it needs work. I'm excited to start on it.

Re: :::elspectro29::: 2001 base

Restoration began yesterday. We're checking the source of the tail light leakage. Tails and gaskets are currently off the car.

Target bags deter water flow into the trunk while the tails are off.

Tail light gasket fix + parts = dry parts in unit # 10687.

Re: :::elspectro29::: 2001 base

Dry trunk post snow melt was great news. Bonus: dry tail light housing. Yaaay!!

Guess that tooth brush scrub on the gasket helped.

I need to remember to put the moisture absorbers in my car like you did.

I'm not convinced that old neoprene gasket won't be a source of seeping. But the permatex kept the snow melt out. We'll know by spring.

I'd be more than happy to take that Greddy muffler off your hands next time i'm down ;)

You should look into that short shifter - really curious as to what it could be. Depending on how long the previous owner had been modding it, you have a small selection as to what it really is. (in hopes you have a PSPEC, that'd be awesome)

Did you guys use indian shellac? That's the good stuff for a lot of engine gaskets and it never occured to me to use it as tailight seal, although 10lb mounting tape
Loses the tackiness, but waterproofs seals too, long as there is pressure

There are a lot of options

You should look into that short shifter - really curious as to what it could be. Depending on how long the previous owner had been modding it, you have a small selection as to what it really is. (in hopes you have a PSPEC, that'd be awesome)
I'll send you pics of the short shifter when I expose it. Next item on the list of things to do is take out the interior and clean it. The console has stains on it, so that'll be coming out for sure. The previous owner had the car for 3 years, and I believe it was already in the car when he bought it. The muffler is yours.

Loses the tackiness, but waterproofs seals too, long as there is pressure

There are a lot of options
We used the black goo I've been using since I saw my dad repair a window gasket on his truck when I was a kid. I've used it to seal motor parts, stop a home gutter from dripping on my head when it rained, fasten loose shingles and so on... it gives you time to install before it 'skins' over. Cleans off easily too if need be.

This shelac you speak of... I'm intrigued. We gonna use new gaskets later.

You use the ultra black but don't know this???

Gasket Sealants : Permatex® Indian Head® Gasket Shellac Compound

Well, anything that can withstand diesel fuel has my vote

Re: :::elspectro29::: 2001 base

I have perma-tex tunnel vision.
Never been a question of which color... just which size tube.

But I'm not too stubborn to try something reccomended by someone a lot smarter than me.
Indian head it is.

Edit: checked that link. No more gutter nail woes. Rubber cement getting hard to find, and is usually dried out when I need it...
so Indian head permatex....

If we knew wtf is in cheetos puffs that makes your fingers orange, we'd use that for sealing leaks instead.

Re: :::elspectro29::: 2001 base

that orange never comes off.... Unless you use a baby wipe. And then you smell flowery to boot!

And please, i'm not that smart, i listen to my elders and keep their ingenuity alive Mike.
That may be all the genius i'll need

Re: :::elspectro29::: 2001 base

Woah! I'm honored and speechless..
Well the honored part anyway.

I'm reading sideswipes reccomendation of sealant, eating the last few cheetos puffs in the bag in a minus 14% humidity room (due to broken humidifier) and there's all this orange $hit stuck to my fingers from like 7 cheetos puffs.
Wth?! How can this $htuff be sticking to my fingers?!
By now it's all over my clothes, soapy water and a rag were no help. Baby wipes just smeared it. Sheesh. Somebody should patent this stuff... melt the stuff and fix potholes with it.
