Re: :::Linds-O::: 1995 SE/VTEC

TAKE TWO

Let's try this again, shall we?

Continuing on from Number One, I'm still unclear as to what direction to take with this one. I'm thinking a metallic maroon/burgundy engine bay with a matching valve cover, but I would like to keep the SE exterior color. It's a lot more subtle than the red, which I've never really liked on cars anyway. Maybe I'll just gloss black it in there and around the exterior to have a nice accent, but keep it from standing out from the crowd too much visually. I like being a dark horse, remaining in the shadows, ya know? I couldn't do that with the red, but outside of the Prelude community, I feel I can achieve that in this one. After all, it's for me to enjoy, not you ;).

............................................

Engine:
Tired old 235,000mi H23A1, soon to be the VTEC.

Interior:
Is currently pretty gross.

Exterior::
At some point in the past, the drivers side was buffed with a tree apparently.

Suspension:
Knocks and rattles over speed bumps.

I.C.E.:
Well, it smells like it's been 18 years without a deep cleaning, so that's nice. I actually found a parking sticker from 1997 under the rear seat.

Miscellaneous:
It also has no prop rod.

Future Mods:
Swap everything still usable from Number One.

Day 1:

How about we start by stripping the interior and cleaning the **** out of everything?

Re: :::Linds-O::: 1995 SE/VTEC

Interesting that our 4th gen stories sort of parallel. We both had an H22-powered 95 (mine was an Si with a swap) wrecked due to stupidity of someone else and unable to get the other person on the hook for it (the guy who hit me said his light was green, but mine was), then replaced it with a model with exterior issues and SE rims. Good luck on your progress.

I'm bringin in the black carpet and front seats. I'll first try to clean the tan door panels and back seats to keep them, and put in the black rear divider with the speaker.

Nothing but SEs out there in NM? You seem to have a gift for finding those things. I'm glad to see you recover so quickly and it's cool I get to watch you at work.

Re: :::Linds-O::: 1995 SE/VTEC

Thanks guys. I'd be lyin' if I said I didn't care what people on the internet thought. Your encouragement has really helped. When I first got outta the car after I wrecked, my first thought after waving people on to catch the b-hole and get his license plate was, 'Dammit, I'm done, I can't do that again". I was ready to turn car-gay; no more mechanical love, no more researching, learning, failing, and heart-aching.

I'm still bummed I gotta transfer everything over, but it's neat to have the chance to start again;

-Going Innovative mounts this time around
-Didn't grease the throwout bearing good enough so it squealed if the clutch wasn't in
-I don't think I'll end up keeping any of the tan interior. As much as I like it, I'm a rabid clean freak and I have enough of a hard time keeping myself satisfied with the cleanliness of the charcoal, I don't wanna have to kill myself scrubbing a spot outta the tan.
-Still working with my engine color idea. During my continued scrubdown session of the interior today, I decided to paint the bracket for the shift linkage and the little bracket that the back of the console bolts to. I shot some gloss burgundy over a black primer base and it's close to the color I had in my head, but maybe still a tad on the purple side rather than the red I imagined. I'll throw a pic up in a day or two for opinions.

Re: :::Linds-O::: 1995 SE/VTEC

Ahhhhh type t and his charm.

I was rooting for you to keep the tan, but understand why you are going dark colors. Can't say I blame ya.
Mine with tan is a joyride car so it stays clean. Scotchgard helps keep it that way.

I was asking a friend recently when his car was robbed did he feel like giving up. He responded his wife talked him into getting back on the horse. I got robbed of my tools recently so therefore the question was to enquire if that's normal. I still get a lump in my throat when I see pix of elspectro's wrecked 95.
Guess what I'm saying here is you not wanting to jump right back in is nothing to be ashamed of. And I commend you for jumping right back in the game. It seems as though this time with even more furvor.
Good job Lindso.

Anyway, can't wait to see that paint color you have in your head

Re: :::Linds-O::: 1995 SE/VTEC

Thanks Byk..When my buddy and I were getting the car off the tow truck that night, my dad came out in his slippers and pajama get-up and just watched us get it into the garage. When it was finally in the garage, he just stood there and stared at it for a few minutes while I was cleaning a trail power steering fluid off the driveway. Then he started cursing a bunch. I think he was a little more upset about it than I was, and even more excited than all you guys to see another Prelude in there. If I didn't have his garage to put all my crap, this wouldn't have ever happened.
************************************************** ****

Day 2 - Day 4:

Photobucket is being laggy again so my pics are too big and sideways. I guess give it some time to catch up with my changes? Stupid Photobucket..

It's about as clean as I'm gonna get it in there for now. I still gotta take the dash apart and clean that up and swap over my gauges, but I'll wait til I have a seat to sit on for that.

^^In that pic you can see the two things I painted. I figured they're never visible so why not mess with it and see how I like it. It's not a metallic like I had in my head, but I still like it. My friend said it looks like an old lady's nail polish and her purse.

I have the headliner all removed too, just waiting for some assistance getting the sunroof out so I don't drop it or knock it on something and piss myself off. I'll do that this weekend, get my short shifter over, my stereo wiring, and whatever else I have time to start on. I found out last night I'm gonna have to swap over my front brakes and rotors, too. Don't wanna be without my VTEC brake setup.

That and its sharp as hell in a few places from where I trimmed it to fit. Tore my hands up last time I messed with getting it in and outta the door myself.

Re: :::Linds-O::: 1995 SE/VTEC

I just gut-ed an 89 @ the junkyard thinking of bringing home most of the trim including the sunroof cover. All was out of the car at one point. I looked at the pile of parts and kept an overhead light and a door molding out. The rest went back in for others to use.
Sunroof was heavy and cumbersome. That last screw was a lulu.
The seats made for good resting points. You don't have that advantage right now.
To me the hardest thing to get back in w/o damaging was that big @$s, fragile headliner. I was like 'how-th-h311 did I get that out without mucking it up?'

You certainly ought to have help while the switch-a-roo takes place.

Opinions on that red for the engine bay and valve cover?

And I finally freaking found the name of the paint; CASHMERE SILVER METALLIC!

Hahaha that's got to be what I spent the most time on Thursday morning..getting those three stupid push tabs loose without ripping them off the back. Every time I take it down, that same thing goes through my head! I always tell myself to remember what I did to get it out but 15 seconds later I'm already thinking about something else.

Re: :::Linds-O::: 1995 SE/VTEC

I used a pair of door panel pulling tools. One (wide blade) was slid into position, slightly angled, then the other (narrow blade) was wedged between the roof and tool one.

That shade of red is a dam nice color against your factory color.
Do you mean the entire engine bay? I'm thinking maybe 80% red? With some of the factory color as accents. And maybe a little dab of that red here and there throught the outside of the car. Things like valve stem caps, the H, stuff like that. Valve cover for sure.

I'm happy you replaced it so fast, but I'm still so bummed about the red one. Too bad you couldn't have found one to come pick up in Cali. NOT mine.

I can't wait to see it in person.

Oh, and when this is finished, I think your wife needs a new car... Just sayin'!

I actually looked in Bakersfield, but you don't have crap there. Besides yours.

Speaking of a new car for A, the only one I'd buy her is yours...

Re: :::Linds-O::: 1995 SE/VTEC

Last week was a pretty good one. The first thing I finished was the fuel pump swap, and I decided to take a few pics cuz it can be a bitch of a puzzle to figure out.

Here's what's underneath that cover behind the 4th gen seats. The fuel pump is the one on the right. I did my best to brush off the dirt that's built up on there and vacuum any loose dust to hopefully prevent it from falling into the tank when I cracked it open. You'll notice two lines, one rubber and one steel; The steel one is the difficult one because it won't flex outta the way to allow you to pull the pump up and out;

There's only two ways to push that steel line- up or down. You can push it up far enough outta the way, but not without bending it, which makes it's tight re-installation tough. Sooo, force it down like a boner in class;

The stock one is on the left and the Walboro is on the right. I don't think I have a Prelude replacement when considering the difference in size and angle of that little net/filter thing, but I haven't had any problems with priming or anything yet, so whatev;

After getting the fuel pumps taken care of, I finished getting everything *****'n'span;

Received a couple new parts;

Got most of the cockpit back together;

Aaaand proceeded to make another giant mess out of the garage;

I'll spend all this week cleaning and painting the engine compartment, and hope to have the motor swapped in this coming weekend.

Re: :::Linds-O::: 1995 SE/VTEC

I'm glad you appreciate my poor jabs at humor :)

After starting to clean the engine compartment this morning, I'm thinking I may not even get to start painting for another few days, which will push my H22 install back another weekend :( GD bay is greasy as hell.
