Re: :::ton3::: 1994 VTEC
I purchased this Prelude back in late 2010. I previously owned two other 4th gens; a red Prelude S and a white Si with an H22a1 swap. I riced out the white one....bad. Maybe one day I'll work up the nerve to show you guys how bad it was. Anyhow, I got out of that at the right time and made a profit on the car.
Life happened and I moved on to other cars...family cars. Eventually, I was back in a position to have a toy and guess what I went for. Yep, another 4th gen. I had no idea ho far I would go with this car, but I knew I had to have one. I did some CL browsing and just when I was about to settle one in not so good condition, a listing was made for this beauty. A family in a pretty nice area was holding on to a family member's pride and joy, but no longer had room for it. I had my canvas. The JDM H22a type S swap was already completed and it had nice wheels to boot. I was good to go. ![]() Last edited by t0n3; 05-12-2013 at 01:14 AM. |

Re: :::ton3::: 1994 VTEC
The engine was stock, but as far as I knew that was all I needed. Little things needed to be done. Of course I did a full tune up on the car just babied her like she was brand new.
The first thing to "go" was the antenna. I replaced the RC car antenna with a much worse replacement from Autozone. I needed something though and knew I ultimately wanted a black and red theme. So, it worked. I searched for an S2K antenna, but decided on a replacement by Metra. I removed the old motor and replaced it with the new short rubber antenna. I like how much it resembles the S2K antenna. and gives me option to use other screw on antenna if need be in the future. Reception isn't really any issue as I rarely listen to the radio, but in the instances that I do, it works just fine. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by t0n3; 05-12-2013 at 01:25 AM. |

Re: :::ton3::: 1994 VTEC
The Pioneer AVIC-N1 I got was on clearance. This head unit has navigation via DVD and car monitoring. It will monitor your acceleration, cornering, speed, etc. and display these figures on the touch screen. I was so excited after the lengthy install. That was until I realized the screen would not come out. Ooooh....clearance. What a deal right?
![]() Well, I researched and discovered that screen not moving was due to a faulty part that was recalled. I was able to ship the unit in, get it repaired and quite some time later (no tunes in the car except beautiful VTEC) I had my stereo back. Now I could try out those diagnostics! Right? Wrong... ![]() The DVD contained all the info needed to load all the information to the unit. My clearance unit did not come with this. Guess how much. Go ahead guess...... $300 for the DVD. Needless, to say I got to downloading and burning. Eventually I made a copy good enough to actually be read by the unit and finally got the following: ![]() This particular image is not from my car, but imagine my excitement to get to play around it. I was content and still am to this day. Last edited by t0n3; 05-12-2013 at 01:48 AM. |

Re: :::ton3::: 1994 VTEC
So, my stock speakers weren't cutting it. I loved cruising in my car and daily drove it to work. My commute is about 40 miles one way. I love the sound of the engine, but needed a little more for long drives. I don't do ICE installs very well. I was good enough to install the AVIC-N1, but as for subs and amps...no.
I saved up a little and found a place that was not going to charge too much and let them know that I didn't want to take up my entire trunk with a huge box and woofers. The solution I was given was excellent if I do say so myself. ![]() ![]() Last edited by t0n3; 05-12-2013 at 05:26 PM. |

Re: :::ton3::: 1994 VTEC
Well, I really liked those RH Crosslines. The mesh wheels just always seem to look good on...well most cars. I was out one day doing my duty as a son and was on my way to pick up my mother after a surgery. On the way I ran over a pothole that leads straight to China. This MF'in hole was ridiculous. And I couldn't see it until I was right up on it. Needless to say, my poor wheels did not survive.
I honestly, don't know why I did this. I sit here now trying to think of any good excuse for what I did, but I don't have one. I just wasn't thinking. I went to discount tire and bought 17" Drag DR33s in black. They are place holders...next post...moving on. ![]() |

Re: :::ton3::: 1994 VTEC
^^I decided to leave that post. Gives the thread character.
So, I love my spaceship and wanted to add a little something. Let me keep it functional too while I'm at. I went with the Skunk 2 weighted shift knob. I had the stock one, but the trim was worn off and I prefer the feel of the Skunk 2. I'll never miss a gear again...yeah right. ![]() I did go with just a no name red stitch/leather boot. It gets the job done. |

Re: :::ton3::: 1994 VTEC
So, time goes by; I read threads on here all the time showing very clean Ludes, very fast Ludes and very clean/very fast Ludes. I need boost. I read the "So, you wanna go turbo" thread. I read countless others. However, I figured I wouldn't be able to afford all of that. I have a family and this is my early "mid life crisis" according to my wife. (BTW as I type this I am 5 days away from 31. We have 3 kids, a brother in law, 3 dogs, and two cats. If we put a sticker family on the rear windshield of out Envoy it would just be one more blind spot.)
So, I just figured I would admire the awesome cars I see here and just dream. Well, one day while searching CL like I do almost everyday for things I can't buy, I stumble across a Jackson Racing Supercharger. The guy is local and has the complete kit off his 5th gen. I knew it had been installed on 4th gens before, but at what expense? I began researching like mad. The price was excellent and something told me it was meant to be. After a few days of reading what I thought was enough about this and talking to a local tuner, I was ready. We were going to this. I contacted the guy, bought the kit and drove home with a Joker grin on my face. Why so serious my ***. I was ecstatic. The kit was just as it comes from Jackson Racing. The standard blower and 6psi pulley setup. I planned to go with this on stock internals and hope for the best. The kit I bought even came with the guys old ecu and hondata S300. My tuner couldn't believe the deal I got on it all. So, at this point in the story it is now March 2012. I'm going to copy a lot from my old thread in the Forced Induction section for these next few posts. I want to bring all my pain and suffering into one complete story. |

Re: :::ton3::: 1994 VTEC
***Story from 4/4/12***
If you want to read through and see the comments from others while I was going through all of this, go here. Original JRSC thread Ok, I should have posted up something about this a while ago when I got started, but *insert excuses*. I have a 94 with a JDM H22a. I purchased a used Jackson Racing Supercharger in hopes that we could make it fit. Well it's been about a week and we got the bugger to fit, and she'll be tuned on a p28 with an S300(Hondata) tonight. There were some issues that I anticipated and some that I didn't. -It is definitely a tight fit (no that's what she said jokes) -The standard bracket for the main pulley just did not work. We had to use a modified adapter. -The kit comes with an adapter to relocate the power steering pump. That does not fit the 4th gen power steering pump at all. (Power steering = gone) -Cruise control = gone -The belt on the large set of pulleys did not clear the strut tower or a large bolt a little further down. We tried to grind the strut tower and it wasn't enough. It had to be hammered in. The bolt was just replaced. -My AEM intake did not fit and had to be cut on the upper part near the throttle body to line up. The 4th gen alternator has 5 ribs and the 5th gen has 6. The supercharger was designed for the 5th gen so the larger belt is 6PK1930. Once we started it up after attaching everything, that extra rib was ripped off. It's still holding and I haven't taken it off yet. However, I do plan to get a 5th gen pulley or alternator so that my belt is complete. Kinda important, I think. I'm hoping for a good night tonight when I leave work. Wish me luck. I'll get some pics uploaded and maybe a dyno video. I don't expect a lot of power out of the supercharger. Not like a turbo obviously, but I think it's going to fun. It's my daily and needed to keep A/C, my system and everything else I could hold on to. Power steering and cruise control...meh. ***Update*** It didn't go well yesterday. I got to the shop after work and there was a 2nd gen GS300 strapped up. They spent a good 2 hours getting it tuned to 807whp and some ridiculous torque figure. The 2JZGTE is a wonderful piece of machinery. Anyhow, it was too late for them to start tuning mine and it will have to be done today. I kinda didn't want my little car to get up after seeing that spectacle. More to follow. As has been mentioned before...there is a very good reason there are few supercharged 4th gens compared to 5th gens. I'm earning this one. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by t0n3; 05-12-2013 at 05:33 PM. |

The story continues tomorrow. Well, later today actually. I'm tired. It's 2:30 in the morning here. On a work day I'd be 2 hours from getting out of bed. Ugh...

Re: :::ton3::: 1994 VTEC
So after that post I was at the shop pretty much every chance I got. I think it was about 2-3 weeks spending entire days just figuring out what some would think are simple things. The guys here were a huge help with some of my questions; especially HpreludeH and twokexx.
Instead of copying over all of our conversations, I will sum it up. During the install, I had belts break, boost leak, pulleys wobble and temps sky rocket. It was a mess that I as a boost noob was not ready for. I felt I had officially ruined my car and felt ashamed. I did come in and ask questions though. Turned out that a lot of the problems I had were just typical and some were due to my own negligence. For example: - belts breaking (typical issue solved by purchasing quality Goodyear Gatorback belts) - Over heating (The supercharger adds a ton more heat to the engine bay and needs additional cooling to help lower temps. At the very least, a lower temp thermostat and high flow radiator are needed. I went with a Mishimoto combination per the guideance of HpreludeH) ![]() Here, I went with a Spal slim fan. Yes, that is a ziptie. I know for some people that's grounds for stoning a man, but I have no problems with it. It's functional. ![]() - twok advised me of something that really should be common knowledge that I read and just missed in all my excitement. I finally got the car running and tuned, but still had the stock fuel pump. It was not long at all before I was taking out those seats to swap out the old one for a Walbro. Oh! A side note about that; If you ever get some fancy ICE setup in your trunk be mindful of any fuel pump related changes you will have to make in the future. All of mine was bolted down for added security. The walls, the box in the spare tire well, all of it. All the brackets and everything had to come out and the rear seats. So, something easy like a fuel pump turned into a major PITA. Hope I never have to do that again. |

Re: :::ton3::: 1994 VTEC
The finished product wasn't bad at all in my opinion. I started with 6psi which is the factory setup for the kit. With that and a little help from the high compression (11:1) Type S motor, we ended up with 240whp @ 204wtq.
I had a few dyno videos, but some were too long. So here is one of them. Alright, seriously whats the deal with embedding video here? I searched and don't see instructions. Flame away. I didn't want to just link to the video. Last edited by t0n3; 05-12-2013 at 12:15 PM. Reason: Youtube |

There you go! :) EDIT: LoL.. I might as well tell you what's wrong/what you're doing wrong ;p Your link had a 2nd "parameter" wich is "&future=youtu.be". Remove that, and just paste the link into the thread. No need for [video]-tag or anything :)

Re: :::ton3::: 1994 VTEC
Well, it's time to rebuild the engine and this time with forged internals. We should be taking pictures next week, so you can take a look if you want. Here's a quick rundown:
1) The upper most pulley on the jackshaft was hitting my strut tower under acceleration and grinded away the outter rib of the belt and the pulley itself. This will be solved by the addition of Innovative mounts. I went with 85a just to make sure. There will be more vibration felt inside the car, but I prefer that to destroying my pulley and belts. 2) The old seals were going bad and I had plenty of smoke inside the block (blow by). New OEM seals were purchased to complete a rebuild along with water/oil pumps and timing belt...the works. 3) I enjoyed the increase in power, but since I have to rebuild it to last longer, I may as well get a little more out of it if possible. Solution: I got my hands on the very last jackshaft pulley from ENDYN. They happened to have one left in the shop even though they don't list it anymore and said they won't be making more. I lucked out there. So, this pulley will increase the boost another 3psi. That, combined with the Accord crank pulley I already installed will bring the total boost up to 12psi. There will most likely be an issue with getting the belts to hold that amount of pressure at higher rpms, but I've seen some of the techniques used by others with this kit. I have a spare tensioner pulley that I may have to install if I can't hold a decent amount of boost as it stands. We'll see. |

Re: :::ton3::: 1994 VTEC
Remember, I said those Drag wheels were place holders. I finally got my hands on eht wheels that I want. A set of 4th gen SE wheels. I planned on working on the this weekend, but instead had to clean the garage and so the A/C repair guy can come out to my house. Priorities, right? I'll get around to them soon enough. Not like I can put them on now anyway. I don't know if I will take the time to polish them to a mirror finish. Not because of the time it takes. I would be glad to do it, but because I think I would actually prefer them to be white. Something tells me they wouldn't look good in black. We'll see soon enough.

About EFFIN time you find some damn SE wheels! Haha! And also, about effin time you share the details about the history of the whole car.
In for pics of your riced out one..

Thanks. As for that plate, I loved it until it was time to renew the thing for the second time. I could buy a decent part for my car for what those things cost. It just sits in my garage now. I went back to a standard issued plate.

Yeah, I've needed to make a thread for a long time and finally got to it. I like reading what you guy are up to all the time so I felt I needed to share as well. Also, it feels good to finally have the story of my girl in one place. Hopefully, someone enjoys it. More to come. As for the riced out one...sigh. It pains me to do this, but here it is. It was an Si with an H22 swap. It had a stage 2 clutch, and decent tune on a chipped p28. I was a kid. I didn't know better. However, make fun if you want, but I turned a hell of a profit on that car. Now let's never speak of this again. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Man, I learned a lot working on that car. I learned a lot of good and bad. I know now and I knew when I sold it that it was major rice. I'm just glad I was able to find that right person to buy it. I actually had a lot of people that wanted it. Honestly, it could be saved and I even gave them all the stock parts. I'll never do that to a car again. smh

This is my number one passenger and fan. My son. He loves this car and loves helping me work on it. I sold my last one when we found out we were going to have him. Times were tough and we needed money for the months to come. He was the best thing to ever happen to me for numerous reasons.

overall great pics so far and dude the color of your window switch cover bezels in your first prelude "the riced out one", I swear we had the same color going on when I wa sin my riced out stage lol! but overall loving your lude dude keep it up!

I really should have taken pictures of that antenna install. It was really easy though. I just get anxious when I work on the car and just go for it. That's the main reason I never had a build thread. I'll keep better records from this point on. ![]() The base of the antenna has a nut sitting on top the other metal casing you see here. I removed both of these to expose the "bolt" coming from the base. The rubber base of the antenna will now be able to sit flush against the car. Run those two wires through and connect the black one (male) to your now available female antenna port. It should be right there after removing your old power antenna. I just zip tied the red cable to the black on, since it wasn't needed. ![]() Now you can take that metal casing that was closest to the base originally and set it back against the base from inside the trunk. Tightening this and the bolt from inside the trunk will create the pressure needed to secure the antenna. You can see in the picture here that there is a small opening in it to allow the wires to protrude. Then put on the bolt and tighten it by hand as much as possible all while pressing the antenna against the outside of the car. I pressed pretty hard to get it as tight as possible by hand before I finally got out a wrench to tighten it completely. It will not move and will not leak. I love it. The actual antenna can be switched out with others including the S2k. the base will allow pretty much any screw on type (female). Last edited by t0n3; 05-13-2013 at 12:01 PM. Reason: Added info |
