Re: :::ton3::: 1994 VTEC

I like boxes.

Of course I could have gone with a 6 puck or even a stage 3, but I went with the stage 2 for the sake of comfort. I'm going to use the stock flywheel. I've heard that they weigh 20 or 25lbs. Either way, I don't feel the need for a light weight flywheel.

Re: :::ton3::: 1994 VTEC

Hmm, yes, those boxes are NICE...

I regret spending on a flywheel, but I was told mine was beyond resurfacing so I went with a CC flywheel. Good quality but **** for city driving. I'd rather keep the inertia, they are unpredictable in traffic, it felt like mine would heat up fast in bad, stop and go traffic, then would slip a bit, even though brand new. I honestly would have rather gotten one piece lights....

Nice clutch man, enjoy that **** !!

...and you guys just helped confirm that I made the right choice here. Hopefully, my current flywheel isn't in bad shape. However, if it is I'll just source another stock one.

I can't wait to get home and see if the UPS guy brought me any more early birthday presents.

What's in here?

Oh there's three.

Black suede

Red stitching

Now I need a back pack to carry it in. People at work might not understand why I'm walking in with a steering wheel in hand.

Yeah, dude. What's wrong with my stock leathers? I'm quite proud of them. I am hoping that the wheel doesn't look weird being suede in a leather interior though. Guess we'll see soon.

Re: :::ton3::: 1994 VTEC

Quick update:

The machine shop finished the block, but had to go .020 overbore. The thing is, we ordered the pistons ahead of time and ordered stock sized (87mm) Mahle Golds. So, we have to wait a couple days for the right ones to come in before we can start putting it all back together.

Once it's all completed I'll have the addition of the following:
-.020 overbore,
-Mahle Gold Series pistons
-Eagle rods
-new gaskets
-CC stage 2 clutch
-Innovative 85a motor mounts
-1.75 inch jackshaft pulley (increases boost to 12psi with current set up)
-Used 1000cc ID injectors
-Re-tune on E85

When I first started this I didn't have high HP goals. If I did I would have gone turbo. So, I was glad to break 240hp. However, I must admit that with what I'm doing now I hope to be near 300hp. I worry that I'm going to have belt slipping issues again, but we'll see. More to follow in a few days.

I hope so. Once I get off work today, I'm going to pick up two 5 gallon drums from the shop so my tuner can get started.

Haha - Dude, I wasn't even planning to do all this when I started this car. I just keep running into some great deals. Speaking of which, I didn't update this part yet, but I got another deal on a built head. How could I turn it down when everything else is already apart?

The head has all skunk2 parts. Valves, springs, retainers, turbo cams, cam gears. Now I know my stock exhaust seems really silly at this point, so I'm planning to go with KTeller 3" tubing, a Vibrant extra quiet resonator and a Vibrant flat black muffler. The dual tip one should do just fine. I'm running low on funds though and may have to put the exhaust off until later. We'll see how the next few days go.

I should have a quality update soon, with some pics and dyno videos.

Re: :::ton3::: 1994 VTEC

Things have been on hold for a while, but I finally got back to it. The stock exhaust just didn't make sense anymore so Monday we'll be welding up the 3inch KTeller piping with a Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator and Vibrant flat black muffler.

When putting the block back together we found out the hard way that the JDM H22a has different size main bearings than the other models. I should (key word) have some more pics and the car running before Christmas. I won't have a new dyno vid until after I break in the new parts though.

Also, my car got scratched pretty bad sitting outside the shop and will need to be repainted. I'll be sticking with Milano Red. I'm also thinking I may paint the roof black while we're at it. Not 100% on that idea yet.

Going from non-resonated to that Vibrant Ultra Quiet, it sounds so much nicer. Couldn't be happier with the tone but still thinking about throwing a bottle style on there also. Good choice, can't wait to see the dyno :-)

I have a local supercharged 4g buddy that's on a stock block with built head on e85 and he dynoed at like 308 on a mustang dyno. So I have confidence in you hp goals.

Did you leave the catalytic converter on? A bottle style in addition to the other resonator? I wonder...

Nice numbers for a stock head. Any idea how many lbs of boost he got out of the supercharger? I should be at 12 when we're done.

Doing work! Very nice!!
Thank you kind sirs.

So, we have a new addition to the family. My son was born on 12/31 and we got released from the hospital last week. I'm taking a break from work and will be able to focus on family and finishing the prelude. We made some progress today in getting the block reassembled. I need to get some new O rings tomorrow so we can finish sealing it up.

Sorry I don't have more pics, but I don't like getting my phone dirty. I'm kind of a phone geek.

Are you assembling the block without an engine stand?

Yeah it's catted. I wish I wouldn't have because I failed low speed emissions and decided to just register it in a county that doesn't smog test. Oh well.

Congrats on the new family member! That's so awesome!

Yeah, it sucks. All the ones at the shop are in use. I'll make it work though.

Thanks man. He's sleeping in my arms right now. Now I need to get my other baby (prelude) home.

I'd worry about getting the proper torque on the bolts and contamination without a stand!

Also, congrats on the kiddo. Changes your life in the best way possible. I'm glad I'm able to get back into the car stuff now that he's grown up a bit.
