::: ChrisMario ::: '93 2.2VTEC 4WS

First of all.

Many people has their dream cars. I'm thinking Ferrari, Lambo, BMW M5, Nissan Skyline etc. etc...

THIS.

THIS is my dream vehicle. And my dream came true when I saw this one for sale. Yes, it's R81 red with green front and rear. That didn't bother me at all.
Because I knew that it would take me a couple of days to either get used OEM
front and rear, or I could just buy something new/styling. The guy who sold it
had to get rid of it ASAP since he was going to start on a new job in another
city.

------------------------------------------------------------------

The Car
Year: 1993
Make: Honda Prelude
Engine: H22A2 (2.2VTEC)
KM/Miles: 170.000km (105.633 miles)
Specs: 4WS, ABS, AirBag

I got this car 2 days ago, so here's the only picture I'm gonna share for now.
I'm actually on my way out to go to the garage and get some sound in that
ride! (:

Meanwhile; Enjoy the picture! More major updates to come! (:

Re: ::: ChrisMario ::: '95 2.2VTEC 4WS

yo nice to see that you have H22 there now!

although Im not fan of 4ws but hope it works ok for you!

IMO you should paint those bumpers to match the car and PLZ take those sideskirts off, stock ones would be much nicer!

(btw theres some updates in my car/build thread also )

oh and did you sold you previous lude?

@TypeT - Yeah, I sold it. Got pretty good bang for the buck, so it's gone.

Now please, let me just say this! :p

- Yes. Sideskirts both WILL and MUST go. I got the originals.
- Yes. You can have both engine and interior pictures.
- Yes. I tend to get those bumpies painted (:

Re: ::: ChrisMario ::: '95 2.2VTEC 4WS

Sounds like a good find! I'm jealous of the rear fog and side markers :p and that they don't come with the running lights on the sides of the rear bumper over there, like they do here in the US.

Also, how you you like those backup sensors? And whats with the dual exhaust? :p

The backup sensors is atleast working, and doing what it's suppose to do. I usually never trust 'em.. :b

The dual exhaust? I don't know. It came like that when I bought it. I might keep it that way, but ONLY if I find a rear bumper wich isn't "overkill" where they will fit in.

And the thing about the side-markers and fog lights? Same goes to you :b
You're just too damn used to see the ones you got over in the US, same goes here.. ;p

- Make my Prelude sing!

The car came with a modified dash. Inside the dash, where you find the OEM
tweeter/speakers, the previous owner has sliced in some 7" LCD displays. Pretty cool if you ask me, especially for show-down etc. So the tweeters were instead modified into the middle of the dash, and wired up with the speakers in the doors to a crossover filter. The cables didn't go to the CD player, but all the way to the rear of the car. Wich means; He's done a good job! :b I like to use amplifiers on all of the speakers in my car. So if he hadn't done it, I would! (:

I bet most of you have had the pleasure of "getting into someone else's world". By that, I mean; you open up the CD-player dash, just to find a bazillion cables wired up, snipped, taped and what not. Different colors than OEM, and... Aaand... Yeah! Just someone else's doing, where you have *no idea* on wich cable goes to what and where. That's pretty frustrating :x

The images below here will show you 1/5th of what I had to go through in order to get to know the cables and the system :b A tiny note/description above each picture! ;)

At first, it didn't look like much. Just the regular "behind-the-player".

Then, the cables decided to join the party... :s

After some time, I managed to separate the cables.

The power, the ground and pretty much all the ISO cables were cut off and tampered with. So I had to re-merge them all. Finally, getting the player to work.

Finally, I got it to work. The speakers played the music loud and clear! (:
So it was time to get the player where it belongs.

Final result (yeah, missing the frame around the player. I know, I know! ;p)

NEVER smoked a single cigarette in the car. I tend to keep it that way. You'll

It's from 1995, so the interior is DAMN nice to be almost 20 years old!

like usually h23 4th gens are 4ws in finland. I believe this is the first 4ws h22 around here (in scandinavia) which I have seen

That setup with the LCDs is crazy. Does it mirror the image displayed on the main screen? I wanna see it all lit up. You're taking the spaceship theme and running with it. The car looks nice. It sits at the right height in my opinion and your interior is very clean. Doesn't look like a bad job in the first place, but I know what you mean about going behind someone else. Looks like you have a great canvas and it's in good hands. Can't wait to see what else you have in store.

Yes sir, it's connected to the main screen/player. All the same brand.

Main part was to get the sound in the car. I can't stand driving without music! ;p I will connect the monitors up abit later today (or maybe tomorrow)

First priority now, is to change the ABS/4WS ECU as I got a new one when
I bought it. The 4WS workes fine for a while. But after some driving, the light comes on and the wheels locks up in null-position (straight forward) So I'm gonna swap that ECU!

Thank you all for saying positive stuff about my lude! (:

Y'all can say what you want; This is, by far, the best enthusiast forum I've ever come across. And believe me; I've been at many many!

thats the main reason why I didnt want to my lude to be 4ws one - more things to maintenance and they can give you (more) problems

True statement, but I imagine when it works it's more fun than driving without it. Good luck with it either way.

Re: ::: ChrisMario ::: '95 2.2VTEC 4WS

The big weakness with the 4WS unit, is the soldering inside it.
Just like the AC/heat control panel. Honda used poor soldering when making these cars, so it's a known problem. Lucky for me, I met this guy on the Norwegian "Club Honda" forum who has great reputation for fixing people's 4WS and ECU units by disassembling them and put on new and stronger/better soldering :) Thus, the units will most likely never break since the solder-problem is 99.9% the reason why they stop working in the first place.

All I have to pay him is 400 NOK (Norwegian Kroner) wich is around $70 and cover the shipping, and he'll fix the old one. So if the one that I put in now will break, I'll just put the re-soldered one back in. Also, it's preeeeetty "easy access" and easy to swap 'em :)

And yes; Driving with 4WS is pure awesomeness. Atleast in my opinion ;)

LoL..? I didn't even think of it untill you mentioned it :p
haha!

Well, I really don't know. And I have no issues with it, to be honest :b

Now, a tiny update!

Today, I swapped the 4WS/ABS ECU unit.
... Same ****, different wrapping.

The ABS light comes on after ~15 km/h (always)
The 4WS works infinite if I let the engine run idle. It's only when I start
driving in speeds such as 40-50+ km/h that it takes about 1-2 minutes
before the light comes on and the 4WS stops working..

I highly doubt both units are dead, but.. You never know ;p

But do you know anything else wich might trigger this to happen?

Re: ::: ChrisMario ::: '95 2.2VTEC 4WS

Just to keep y'all informed!

This is actually a Prelude from Florida US! It's a 93, not 95 (nighty-schmity.. Doesn't matter, does it? ;p) and it was first registred in FL back in '95.

It was later imported to Norway by an enthusiast in 2oo8 :D

It's always nice to know the story of your car. Thus, when it acts funny, you can always blame it on a ruff car-childhood! ;p

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

MOAR UPDATEZZZZZ!!!!

Re-soldered the 4WS/ABS unit today. It's 01:35AM here right now, so I'm waaaay too
tierd to go out and mount in in the car. Also, it started raining (f*ck Norway and it's
weather conditions!)

But here's a few pictures from the soldering. It was a hell-of-alot dry solder joints
and spots, so it was clearly a good idea to re-solder it :)

I'll keep y'all posted when it's mounted, to see if it helped (:
If I'm not quite mistaken, I might need to change some sensor-rings in the
rear wheels aswell.

The ECU error code/flashing gave me both code 35 and 36 which indicates bad sensors
in the rear wheels.
