:::Bykfixer::: 91 S.i. fraternal twins

Black n Tan 91 ALB 5speed
Affectionately named Lucky

Interior:
Basically stock tan cloth seat, typical black accents and an aftermarket arm rest.
Mirror screw cover and seat belt warning lamp perfect.

Exterior:
Bone stock black with some rust (see pic above)
Typical trim peeling in typical places.
Metal flake paint

Engine:
B21A1 stock with no compression in # 2 & 3.

Suspension:
Stock with anti-lock brakes.
Falken tires with about 40% tread left.

Misc:
Trunk and backseat full of parts from junkyards or came with Lucjy.
Grip taped clutch pedal.

ICE:
Sony explode am/fm cd player,
4- 6.5" sony speakers,
Working oem type electric antenna.

Future Mod's:
Factory upgrades like oem radio, possible cd changer, pfm and maybe if an lsd or motor from a ctv if one comes along...
Correct the direction of the wheels
Rebuild or Swap in B21A1 motor
basic interior restore, suspension items like bushings, shocks etc.
body work as necessary before paint job,
Edit: Changed my mind on the H22...staying B21.
Basically going to stay pretty stock since there are not many examples left of a clean as is 91 alb.
Better brakes from sideswipes car.
Factory upgrades as possible/practical like headlight washers, digital climate control etc.

Lucky was grabbed off a tow truck on the way to the junkyard by the po. He used it as a DD until the motor gave out. It's been waiting for an engine since Sept 012. That is scheduled to take place next week (5/13/13).
The B21 is a temporary thing to get this car back on the road again. The donor block or the existing block one, will be rebuilt to swap into the red one.

Red 91 S.i. Auto
Named 'three' or tracee. If it holds up the name 'three'will stick. If it's a whiney b!tch that always needs attention, tracee will stick until I roll it off a cliff.

Interior:
Gray cloth with blue stripes on the seats. 9.9/10
Typical black accents 8/10.. have parts to fix that.
Moldings perfect. 9.999 out of 10. Not concoures, but not bad either.

Exterior:
Red with some fade-age on the hood and bumpers
Zero rust. Dollar bill sized dent on the driver door. Update. Dime size rust appeared over the driver side rear wheel.
Black pin stripes still perfect.
Typical trim peeling rear quarter windows only.

Engine:
B21A1 with 221k. Uses 0 oil yet.
Leaking distributor O-ring.

Suspension:
Bone stock.
B.F. Goodrich touring T/A with 90% tread left.

ICE:
Kenwood am/fm cd player with i pod port
Kenwood 6.5" throughout
Broken factory electric antenna

Future Mods:
Obtain Sideswipe's oem floor mats
Correct direction of the wheels.
Restore paint
Fill trunk with parts
Tint windows 10%
Lower 1/2"
Restore a/c
Paint brake calipers gray and rotors red
Swap in non slipping auto tranny
Install better sound system. Looking into possibility of the 5th gen accoustic feedback rear set up and front end.
Rice-y pedals
Map light

If the motor in Lucky is rebuildable, that'll replace the motor that's in this car now. It's a Sunday driver type car so no big deal about the rings vs piston walls.
This car was practically given to me by a neighbor who'd sunk a ton of money into it lately. When the battery light still flickered after a $350 alternator was installed he'd had enough.

Elspectro29's 91 ALB is going to donate the motor and transmission for these cars. Then there'll be a good shell minus a few parts that I'll park under a tree until a good home comes along. He was willing to trade that car for Unit 6095 along with the half dozen boxes of new or better parts for restoring that one.

Thanks for looking. (+8

Edit: When I started these car projects I had no idea how many 3g preludes would be showing up at local junkyards. There seems to be practically at least 2 every month. Sometimes one each week. Mainly 88/89's. And mainly S models. So there has been no shortage of used parts available. Just time and money.
With that said, these cars should literally have parts n peices from dozens of junkyard preludes before it's all said n done.
Maybe the thread title should have a sub title
"how to restore a prelude using mostly junkyard parts."
Certainly someday each will get one of those recycle symbols somewhere onboard.

Looks like a nice project! Hopefully things go well with the swap/restore. I'm sure we'll see lots of pics as you progress

Re: :::Bykfixer::: 91 S.i. fraternal twins

It's going to be a tandem thing. Like fraternal twins, both cars have their own distinctive personalities.
One will be the superstar while the other will quietly go about it's daily life as the other twin.
I'm hoping neither becomes the 'evil' twin.

Lucky reminds me of my mother's car when I was a child. Fingers crossed "lucky" doesn't become an ironic name. Both are looking good.

Can you spot the evil twin? ^^^Me neither.

Sequential plates v v v

Thanks everybody.
The red one just arrived. Has had very little external tlc by the chevy drivin' rebel flag wavin' po who kept this 'rice burner' running tip top for the one in the family with half the money and all the p#$$y... his wife...

The black one is all polished up and ready for action minus a good motor.

The current B21A1 in Lucky will hopefully be rebuild-able to stick in 'three' someday in 014.

Agreed ton3, hopefully Lucky isn't cursed. The po rescued it on it's way to the junkyard due to a blown head gasket!! Can you believe it? The car was beat on by youngsters for about 140k miles. The po rescued it and beat on it a little at first. Afterall it's a 5 speed prelude. Since it was his dd, took care of it overall. But the rings began failing and he lost his job so I bought it for a restoration project.

Thanks Lindso. Considering they've been outside for 22 years, they are well preserved. Says a lot about Honda, aye?

Re: :::Bykfixer::: 91 S.i. fraternal twins

Thanx for that Underground.

This is a whole new adventure. I ate, slept and drank 5th gen. And had a pretty good feel for what goes into restoring one. I had either sourced all the parts or obtained for a years worth of work.

These 3rds are a whole lot different in many respects. My main concern atm is sourcing the parts with the potential modernization of them following a close second.
They too will be mostly stock. The black one in time will be the hot rod. I already miss the ability to twist out 6k with no fear. B21A1 stock won't last long doing that.
So yeah I miss the H22. But in due time, one way or another I'll be shifting at 6k again.

I've been waiting to see those Ludes of yours. Very very clean and good platforms to start from, I know you'll get lot's of good stuff done to them. I wish I had that ability it seems you have to prioritize and organize, I'm taking on new things without finishing some. Must slow down...
Your many builds will be interesting.

Re: :::Bykfixer::: 91 S.i. fraternal twins

^^ it's just a matter of channeling the OCD and the AD/HD in the same direction.

Obtain 3m heavy oxidation rubbing compound for 'three' to apply by hand. That'll be a full rich day in itself.
Them mothers polish will be rubbed on by machine. Then mothers synthetic was. Hopefully a 6-12" ruler shine can be achieved.

Lucky already has a ruler shine. But some gentle compound to remove some scratches. The polish then wax procedure with black specific products should yeild a yard stick shine

I've got to put everything on paper instead of keeping it all upstairs, it's WAY more than I bargained for... But fun, and ppL who take on 3 cars at a time give me the motivation I need to get just 1 done... :/

Re: :::Bykfixer::: 91 S.i. fraternal twins

That's uplifting to hear you say that.

I'm actually doing 2 now. I gave the 97 to my son. His 93 is nearing completion except for some big $ items. So he's taking on Unit 6095 restore using stuff I'd acquired already. He has the time and energy to tackle that one. I'll be a coach to a certain degree. But the teacher is learning from the student if you know what I mean. I'm a Ford guy. Preludes are new to me. But they took away the desire to do anymore Ford's. Nope it's Hondas from now on. lol

The 91's are projects that I can take my time and father time won't be my enemy. They are well preserved where the 97 was falling apart faster than I could fix it.

Lucky is my primary goal. But 'three' came along and will be a fun low budget project.

In time another 5th gen will take up space in my driveway.

2 3rd Gens is an accomplishment in and of itself. And u can always take a 4th or 5th gen for a spin, u are the lucky one! makes me want to go test drive them at a dealershipto see how they feel.

Re: :::Bykfixer::: 91 S.i. fraternal twins

Honda got it right with the 4th imo. But they were 20 years aead of the game with the shell's appearance.

The 5th looks the coolest imo except for the spiderman headlights thing.

The 3rd imo is quite the accomplishment at the end of the 80's. In my area they still sell for $3-4k in good shape. A bit under powered for most, but nobody I know says they're no fun to drive. At the time they were new they were rip-roaring fun machines opposed to the typical 95hp 4cylinders of the time.

Test drive a 5th if you can. I think you'll like it but I'd be suprised if you prefer it over your 4th ... handling-wise.

Re: :::Bykfixer::: 91 S.i. fraternal twins

I actually like how the SH handles on its stock suspension better than the fully built 4th gen, even without ATTS working. But I've also read that the SH had a much different suspension than the 5th base, so...

Re: :::Bykfixer::: 91 S.i. fraternal twins

I've seen somewhere that the stock 85' 0r 87' Prelude beat Ferrari out on the slalom back in the day. A friend of mine used to have a 90 and loved the way it handled, he had kids and couldnt support the car and had to give it up. But that's back when I just got back from living overseas for 6 years, otherwise I would have adopted it, it was perfect. Poor thing got sold for 150 bucks.... I want a 3rd one day, when I'm done with the monobrow dashboard monster..

The 4ws beat the Ferrari. I'll post a link from road & track or car n driver, I forget which....

@ elspectro.: those little dudes in labs coats knew what they were doing when they did up the 5th, didn't they? That's why I had 0 interest in modding the supension on Unit 6095

Definitely, that's why I want to just add the Type-S/Euro-R stuff to its engine and make it a sleeper. I'd have to drive a stock base to notice a difference in suspension between the trim levels.

then you can drive mine and realize you'll want to completely overhaul your suspension

Some lavender air freshner trees stuffed in the door vents will have ya feeling all gentle with that color scheme, huh?

I drove the car home with the crippled motor and tbh the tan interior created a sense that I was travelling faster than I was... either the tan interior or driving through arresterfield va in an unfamiliar car with a non functioning vss, illegal tags and a motor about to blow at any moment lol
