Re: :::Hozzle::: 1998 Base

So I had a JVC head unit installed by best buy yesterday, when I bought the car it had just a huge double din sized hole and no brackets to even fix a radio in to. I'm pretty competent with electronics but this was one I wanted to get done right so had it installed by somebody who is "officially" qualified.

Today was the first time I got to hear the stock speakers and I was pleasantly surprised! Also got my windows tinted 15% today (Pictures to follow)

Re: :::Hozzle::: 1998 Base

Thanks, I shopped high and low and picked it up at a good price a few days ago. I can take it being an auto for now simply because everything else is in great condition. When the tranny goes eventually it will become 5 speed. But the auto tranny was rebuilt to be sold to me so it should last a while knock on wood!

Re: :::Hozzle::: 1998 Base

Braved the Idaho snow and slush just a moment ago. Car is picked up, here it is after tint. Really transforms the car already! Can't wait for all the stuff I have ordered to show up and get fitted.

I also just paid for these

2011 Civic Bronze HFP wheels! They are used but in good condition if the pictures are anything to go by. They were $280 delivered, a good catch if you consider that when I looked around for a new set the lowest price I could find was $850 before tax and delivery.

Loosk great! Glad to hear your going with a 5 speed when and if your tranny goes out because even rebuilt autos fail and continue to sometimes.

Re: :::Hozzle::: 1998 Base

Appreciate the welcomes, of all the forums I've belonged to this is the best so far. Soooo much info available I could probably take this car apart and put it back together myself! I love this car already definitely a perfect combination of comfort speed and handling.

I'll probably have the 5 speed done sooner rather than later, the auto seems to be holding up really well but I do miss that ability to get up in the revs!

Re: :::Hozzle::: 1998 Base

Came home today to this!

Wasn't 100% sure what was in there due to the amount of stuff I've ordered but opened them up and some shiny new red badges, a HID kit and a puppy...

I got the badges out and took the old ones off only to realize that the spikes on the new badges didn't quite match the old holes so with a bit of modifying we were all good! Nothing a set of sharp pliers can't fix with those spikes...

And then to the HID kit, my room mates truck was kind of in the way of me getting the car in the way I wanted it under the garage light. So she's half in half out whilst I used my desk lamp to get a good look behind the lights to workout how to fit this HID kit. Was the most straight forward kit I've done on all the cars I've owned. I used a bolt attaching the windshield washer fluid bottle to secure the left ballast in places and then zip tied the left one to a hole near where the intake is at.

Shot to show the 6K contrast to the stock bulb

All fitted up!

And here is a shot of my engine bay, it's really clean overall having spent time looking around the forum its a lot better than some of the initial OEM shots owner have taken when they first bought the car. Camshaft cover has a few paint peels apart from that I can't complain! The engine is going to be stock for a long time since I can't justify making it any faster right now so fills me with confidence to know it's a clean little N/A engine bay.

Re: :::Hozzle::: 1998 Base

Opened them up and they're in much better conditioning than I had anticipated. Really got a great deal on this one, saved myself about $500. What's more? They came with the center caps! Joy! The listing said they would not come with them so I had been spending the whole week trawling around looking for a matching set so it was a relief to find out I didn't need to buy any.

Here is the worst of the wear. To be fair you only notice it from a few yards away if that, but I'm some what of a perfectionist when it comes to cars so I'm going to touch them up myself. I've done it before on black rims which is easy finding a paint match it no problem. I don't actually know the code for these rims, all I know is they're off of a 06 civic and were listed as bronze.

Oh yeah, it's purely superficial and is very light. I was considering painting them a different color but the bronze goes so well with the pearl white in my opinion.

I'm just like a kid in a candy store! But this suspension package needs to hurry up so I can get these damn wheels on!

Re: :::Hozzle::: 1998 Base

Stagg Struts and Deep Stage springs, should see a 1.75 drop or there abouts. The stock struts with the 16" bottom out and scrape far too easily! My guess is they've been on there the life of the car.

Re: :::Hozzle::: 1998 Base

I put some stagg struts on Tommy's car last year and he loves the way it feels.

he has tein springs on tho.

if you like to get all the life out of your tire, then you may want to invest is a camber kit.

Re: :::Hozzle::: 1998 Base

Well it's been long enough! Car is as "complete" as can be for now and here's how it stand right now I added all the things on my to do list and now it's on to the bigger things. Brakes have become more and more screechy even though they were fitted new when I bought the car (Pads and Rotors) so I will be having both the fronts replaced again, any recommendations? I also need to get the timing belt changed as between the previous owner and the owner before then nobody knows if or when it was changed so at 160,000 miles it is definitely the highest priority. *THE BIG NEW IS* I have decided to go ahead with the 5 speed conversion, here is hoping this isn't going to be a mistake :/ I've started shopping around for parts already and I will be starting with locating the more rare things to find including the JDM Type S Gauge Cluster.

Here's the thing, the Auto tranny (Knock on wood) has run very smooth and fine to this point, but as I've gotten used to throwing the car around a bit more I've come to find the auto sluggish at times even when it's in sport shift. The ECU just doesn't quite seem to know what it's doing and Second is so long it just seems like the torque never really gets down quick enough. Anyway, I figured of I start shopping now first off it won't seem like such a dent when it does come around to doing it because I've spread the cost and second of all by the time I've rounded the parts up the auto may conk out. I see it as an investment for the future. I will put some more pictures up later.

Re: :::Hozzle::: 1998 Base

My auto Accord felt the same. Pretty sure the autotragic on that car would be destroyed as easy as the Prelude's if it had as much power.

Shouldn't take long for one to pop up with a manual conversion you can take. Keep your eyes peeled on CL, etc.
