:::rocker22dallas::: 1997 base

I've had my lude for about 4 months now, and never decided to make a member's ride thread or intro thread. but here is my prelude! the red rims were kind of a "spur of the moment" thing, and im not sure how long i will leave them red. kind of tired of cleaning brake dust off of them. hope you guys enjoy! i've put lots of work into transforming it from the poor shape i bought it in.

The day i bought my lude. drove an hour north to look at it, and picked it up for $2600. only to learn that i was driving home 10mph under the speed limit the whole time, because the speedo was incorrect. I don't have any pics of it, but when i purchased the car, the passenger side of the back bumper was held on by a very large zip tie. i took that off, and it is now held on with several small zip ties hidden behind the bumper.

got some 02 RSX s rims off ebay for $240 shipped, and wrapped them in some new Kumho tires the same day they got here (painted black by previous owner of the rims)

painting the rims

i repainted the front and rear bumpers, rear was in a light accident by the previous owner, looks like the whole front end was replaced and the front bumper's paint was peeling off

and this is the way it sits today. i thought it looked cool in the light this morning, and snapped a few pics. they aren't great quality, taken with my phone. realized just now that my honda logo isn't on in those pics. i've got a bike rack that i install on the trunk lid to carry my skis, and it knocked one of the clips off, so i removed it before it got ruined. just waiting to install again until i can do it well.

INTERIOR - LED dome and trunk lights,

EXTERIOR - VIS Racing carbon fiber hood (polished with rubbing compound to restore shine), RSX s rims, repainted spots, rust>black primer sprayed on surface rust

ENGINE - stock, stupid small short ram intake on stock intake tube (box removed), heat shields removed

SUSPENSION - some type of adjustable height springs over some type of struts that may be stock, not sure. (done by previous owner) new ball joints, tie rod ends, cv axles

I.C.E - Alpine CDE121 headunit, Sirius Sportster pausable/rewindable satellite radio, Kicker 6" 2 way round front speakers, Kicker 6"x9" 3 way speakers in back deck, 2x Kicker 10" 4ohm Comp Subs powered with 700w JBL amp wired for 2ohm

FUTURE MODS. - suspension, respray myself (getting a new paint gun next spring), LED cluster mod (custom), planning on a blue/silver/carbon fiber theme, would like to get new seats, and i still need to do wheel bearings in the front wheels

thank you! i just sprayed them with the honda paint from the auto parts store. had a leftover can and said "hm. ima spray the bumpers" and that alone made my car look 100% better.

i try to do at least one thing per week to improve something that has been bothering me with it. eventually it will be perfect :D

edit: you can see my old truck in the background of the first pic :P 2002 dodge dakota > 97 prelude, i loved both, and did a lot of work on both.

thanks, yeah the red doesn't look bad, but i want to strip it off and maybe go with a darker red, and put it over bare metal with adhesion promoter. this was the darkest red the local auto place had in the 24 oz cans

I got my dome, trunk, and license LEDs from him. But for the cluster, I can do it for a fifth of the price. I'd even make a diy on doing it cheaply.

They are some eBay ones that the last owner put on. I'll try to find a link

they do almost look like it, between the DEPO on top (high beam) and the projector below. but they are not. i really don't like them, and want to find a good set of depos that i can retrofit myself. but i don't want to pay a ton of money to have it done, and i cant find any ludes in junk yards around here. i found a yard i've never been to yet that is like a half hour away. waiting for a good day to go look for one.

Keep up the good work.
An improvement a week can become a daunting task towards the end of your list. If it does don't sweat it. Most old cars take years to complete.
Mine is a 2 year plan I modified to 3. The more I play with unit 6095, the longer the list gets.

Re: :::rocker22dallas::: 1997 base

We added a new car to the family yesterday, even after much trying to convince my brother to get a lude, he got this. also i didn't take a pic, but there was a very nice looking black 2000 base lude 5speed with a nice looking lip kit (not sure of type) and tinted windows that the guy was looking to sell for $3000. i wanted it so bad... even just the lip kit.

i drove his 3000gt home, because it didn't have plates, him and my best friend drove my lude and i snapped a few pics while we were driving.

Re: :::rocker22dallas::: 1997 base

The rims are growing on me, but still think they may look better in standard silver, or even a gold/bronze.

3kGT's can be nice, but I would have certainly picked a 00' base with a lip kit over the mitsubishi. And we think our cars are heavy!!

Re: :::rocker22dallas::: 1997 base

His whole interior is trashed. All the guages work, but the trunk doesn't have the lid over it (hatchback) it is super loud and "Ricey" sounding, the body kits don't fit great, its white pearl so we can't paint it ourselves (I suggested painting the bottom half black so its two tone, then painting front bumper, rear, spoiler and side mirrors black to make it look like it matched. ), a lot of the interior pieces are held together with like super glue, it has a new computer, rev limiter doesn't always go to redline, and it just feels big and slow. We lined it up with my prelude and I DUSTED it. Even when we swapped drivers my lude dusted it. It needs a tune up bad. Something isn't right with it, but my brother is being stubborn and won't fix any problems. Says its perfect how it is :P

Re: :::rocker22dallas::: 1997 base

went to a junkyard that i found near me, and after being charged $2 to go in, all i could find was a 3rd gen 2.0si. pretty lame. in the holding place, they had a very nice looking RSX (02-03) that had some sweet wheels that i want. will be calling them to see if they would part with them once they talk to the owner. he said he might just sell the whole car. i want the wheels and i want rsx seats.

my dad didn't find anything for his car, and they only had one of the type of truck i have. so kind of a let down as a parts yard. they also weren't "allowed" to talk about selling whole cars on a sunday lol

the red has grown on me, but i want to strip them and either plastidip them red or paint them but take my time a little better. they are starting to chip, and the paint is very pitted in some spots where the paint didn't stick (was very cold when i painted them)

my dad didn't find anything for his car, and they only had one of the type of truck i have. so kind of a let down as a parts yard. they also weren't "allowed" to talk about selling whole cars on a sunday lol
Ah bogus dude. Do they not have a window at the front before you pay where you can ask for a list of cars that they have?

they won't tell you what cars are back there. i asked if there was a 97-01 prelude and all they did was print out a sheet of cars that would fit with the exterior pieces i wanted. so basically they printed out a sheet for me that said anything from a 97-01 lude will fit a 97 lude. which i told them. there is also a high fence surrounding the yard and a 7000v electric fence inside it. no looking without their 2 bucks.

My frozen lude and winter driver. We got so much snow in the past few days that we are on our 3rd snow day in a row from school
