Re: :::GARURUMON:::1995 Honda Prelude SR-V

The boost guage is purely for curiousity and diagnostics (seeing if/when full boost is made). It is about 1.5-2" in diameter, and black with an orange needle. I like the idea of putting it in the spot under the sunroof buttons... I'll let you guys know what I decide. I don't like the huge guage clusters on the pillars and stuff like that, I think it is pretty tacky.

I don't like the pillar gauge pods either for the same reason. Plus it advertises that you might be monitoring something worth stealing.

Re: :::GARURUMON:::1995 Honda Prelude SR-V

Exactly.

So I ran the car yesterday! Did some boosting around... Couldn't get a proper tune though and here is the reason why.

Since I am tuning via Apexi SAFC2, which is a piggyback ecu, it is basically modifying the MAP sensor voltage to make the ecu add or pull fuel. It can do up to 50%... But the issue is, after a certain voltage is read from the MAP, the car goes into limp mode and runs hella rich... So to solve this issue you have to run larger injectors and detune the whole curve by 40%, so the MAP thinks full boost is atmospheric pressure. Gave me a startle yesterday when 2nd gear pulls at 6 psi felt great until it started lugging and running a 10 Afr :l

Long story short, I bought some DSM black top 450cc injectors. The previous 550cc SFI injectors I have are too big for my application and end up soaking everything in fuel.

So now its another week until Maya is on the road again.

Other than this she felt great!

Take some videos next time! I wanna see this puppy go!

Any reason you're running SAFC rather than a chipped ECU?

I got it cheap from a friend and I had some experience with Apexi's piggybacks from my brothers car. It was what I had available so I decided to make it work. It will work great for low boost :)

Re: :::GARURUMON:::1995 Honda Prelude SR-V

DSM injectors came and I installed them. So yeah, ripping around...

It is such an awesome feeling to have it run perfectly and make the power that it was meant to. I successfully turbocharged an NA motor, did all of the custom work and everything myself and damn, it feels good. It's kinda quick. Feels like my brothers old stage 1 setup (240 whp?ish). I realized I only have a 6 psi spring in my wastegate, so its tuned for 6 psi. Still feels awesome though :) Cell phone crapped out so I can't do videos right now...

Tonight I'm going to make an EGR block plate, re-do my oil pan gasket, and start taking things apart for cleaning and getting rid of everything useless.

My brother is coming up in less than 2 weeks to help get all of the vinyl wrapping done. Slowly but surely it's all coming together... I've got a few plans that may or may not happen (custom rear and front diffuser, hood air cooling duct). Stay tuned, folks (Edit: This has to be done by father's day for the annual show and shine).

Re: :::GARURUMON:::1995 Honda Prelude SR-V

UPDATE MAY 24

So lots of stuff has gotten done!

How she sits. All of the imperfections have been sanded out.

The motor is currently in pieces (had a broken knock sensor, and had to clean everything.

Did a custom logo on the wheels:

New shift knob (I thought it was blank but apparently its a Mugen.. Most likely knockoff):

How the interior looks:

Finished wrapped parts!!

Flash makes the red look pink almost. It's very glossy and I love it. Stay tuned for more updates and the finished product (hopefully) soon!

Cars gonna be red?

Your interior is starting to look like the S&SPOG 91 prelude parts barn.

^^ is this close to the real thing?
MaGeyver Photo Editor app. Add some gamma, remove some red gamma, lessen exposure, add contrast, add brightness, add contrast, remove brightness, add exposure, and a pinch of contrast.
Red part was easy...it was keeping the sofa brown, wall in the white family, and plant green.
Had the red great, but sofa was purple, wall was blue and plant was orange.lol

Yes that is much closer to the real color. Red is my favorite color so I thought, why not :)

Edit: Here is a BMW with the same wrap.

Sooooo...Milano Red? :D

That's gonna look great man, you already have the rest of it accented so well, there's no way you could make it look bad. How much does it typically cost to vinyl wrap, and how heavy it is? I've never really looking into it but after seeing how well you did just that fender, I'm intrigued.

My brother and I wrapped his car last year so we have experience... It is very difficult to do unless you have a couple of helping hands. A more expensive vinyl (with pearl and fleck, etc) is ~$1000 for a car, a basic one like mine (just gloss, light pearl, no fleck) is about ~$400 for a car. typically you get about 50 feet and have extra of it, it comes in a 5'x50' roll. total weight on the car is very negligible. Probably close to 5-10 lbs for all parts completely wrapped. And thanks :) its definitely taking shape. We finished a door yesterday and I got back on the mirrors / handle, and it looks awesome. Just wait until it's all finished :)

Re: :::GARURUMON:::1995 Honda Prelude SR-V

And seriously, it's so much better than paint. Easier to care for than paint, lasts 7-10 years when properly applied, you never have to blend if you get body damage, just re-wrap, etc. And you can get things that look like this (this is my brother's tib we wrapped in Hexis Lapis Blue Variochrome) for about $1000:

Re: :::GARURUMON:::1995 Honda Prelude SR-V

So is it akin to a giant sticker? Where you activate the 'sticky' with a liquid when you wanna apply?
Is there any kind of shrink it to fit...say like shrink wrap?
What about engine bay? Door sills? Things like that...
I mean is the car wrapped on the inside areas too?
Is it something you can just...uh, well pull it off and replace if say you wanna go from red to blue?

I like the look it gives, myself. Kinda a candy shell look. And on a 4g that's a nifty look imo.

Yeah its kind of like a giant sticker. Maybe I'll do a DIY explaining what you need to do and go through the steps for a piece.

It's a time sensitive adhesive, so there's no liquid involved... You just place it down (its sticky), squeegee out all the air bubbles, and the fold over and secure the edges. You have to make sure its super clean with rubbing alcohol after degreaser.

It doesn't shrink but you can heat it up with a heat gun to stretch it around hard corners, etc.

You can do door jams and the engine bay, but the angles are very hard to do without creases or mistakes and people usually do them with a separate piece and have a seam under the weather stripping.

And yes, that's the best part :) its completely removable. That said, it takes a lot of effort to pull it off after it is fully adhered, but it doesn't damage the paint underneath.

Thanks. I finished the hood last night and wow. It looks awesome.. Just wait for pics guys :) I'm not gonna post any more until the full car is back together!

Re: :::GARURUMON:::1995 Honda Prelude SR-V

Don't use flash!!!
If you must, a diffuser like an old white film canister slid over the flash will get you the extra light without so much that colors get all messed up.
Works great on cameras. But with cell phones having the flash mm's away from the lens, I've yet to find a practical diffuser method. Too bad you can't dial down the flash on phone cams.

Anyway, great explanation.
I was wondering how you guys stretch it around corners and get bubbles/wrinkles out.

A how to would be a great addition to this already good sight.

Re: :::GARURUMON:::1995 Honda Prelude SR-V

So huge issue came along... Vvivid shorted me 13 feet of vinyl. So I no longer have enough to finish the front and rear bumpers. Which majorly sucks as I want to have this car done for the annual show and shine :l

Anyways its all back together (the engine bay looks so pimp, just wait) and its running strong. I'm having some issues with under hood temperatures though. Turbos get mad hot... So I have a turbo blanket coming along with my heat wrap for the manifold, etc. I'm going to maybe do a slim computer fan in the hood scoop to push air towards the turbo from outside, just to help a bit, and wire it to ignition.

Lets see....
They shorted you 13' of product....

They sent you 13' at no charge...

I'd say that was mighty sporty of Vivid.

Now if you ordered x number of feet and you needed 13 more than you figured...
That's DAM sure mighty sporty of Vivid!!! lol

Wow, looks good man, really really good so far. Can't wait to see it all put together. Those bumpers are going to be tricky aren't they.

I wanted to wrap mine too, to hide the faded paint but didn't want to repeat the process in 5-7 years. Do you know if it is the adhesive or the actual vinyl that goes bad first?

Great build. Really like the progress on the car. Also was the wrapping easier to do and did you use a heatgun?

The wrapping isn't too hard. Yeah I used a heat gun!

Some **** came up... I ended up selling Maya :(

I wanted to get one final update in before I sold, after I finished the car, but I never got around to it. In any case, it's gone to a good home now. The guy who bought it loves it.

BUT I BOUGHT A SUBARU

THAT'S STAGE 2 NOW

AND IT'S FAST

I'll be making a thread for her on here soon:)

That looks great!!! My attempt was sad and failed and should never have been attempted...

I gave up on the front bumper and hit it with a rattle can lol
