Re: :::Westernprelude:::2001 Prelude 5spd

Which member are you talking about? And I'm pretty set on the Function and Forms. There's not a lot of price difference with them and the competition, and I don't know...I'm just really wanting the F&F type-1's or 2's.

Re: :::Westernprelude:::2001 Prelude 5spd

its a member on preludeonline.com his username is preludenmphs. they are a nice setup and are around the same price tag as the F&F 2.5's. i went with the BC RAcing because the quality and ride adjustment is top of the line. also check out koni yellows with ground control springs. good luck!!

I can vouch for Koni yellows and Ground Control set up. Ride quality is superb to any suspension I have felt.

Re: :::Westernprelude:::2001 Prelude 5spd

Since I have some mods that I'll be selling, both that were on and that never went on, I'll eventually have a little bit of extra money to play with. I'm looking at wheels for the future, but I'm wondering if I should save up for the best, or get something like retrofits and a JTC Customs Shortshifter. What do you all think? JTC Customs Short Shifter, Retrofits(already has HID's) or a nice set of legit wheels as the first of my personal mods to this car?

Re: :::Westernprelude:::2001 Prelude 5spd

Personally I spent around 900$ for Koni/GC. I kind of wish I would have shopped around a bit more, but I am very very happy with my set up, AND it has a much better warranty than ANY other coilover set up. I would go for short shifter and suspension first, but thats just me. I like to drive rather than have people ogle over my ride (maybe just cuz I can't afford it LOL) But the short shifter is def a must have.

Re: :::Westernprelude:::2001 Prelude 5spd

That's a good point. I'm going back and forth between getting F&FII's(and maybe pc'ing my current wheels an advan-gold color), saving up for a much nicer set of wheels(Probably gold), or getting a short shifter, retrofits, etc. The car, as you can see, is already lowered, but I want it to be a good quality ride, and have some adjustability. The coil over springs that are on there now aren't that bad, but you know how it is. I want everything on this car to be of unquestionable quality, unlike the bits on my current(outgoing) Lude.

Re: :::Westernprelude:::2001 Prelude 5spd

Its not that the other options out there are any less than Koni/GC because I have heard nothing but great things about Megan, Ksport, F&F's, Tein, BC, Yonaka, Blackworks, D2, and so on. If I were you, I would not pick a coilover for the price, I would do research and pick the one you really want. None of them are that much different in price to justify what you want for you and your ride.

Re: :::Westernprelude:::2001 Prelude 5spd

i talked to a reputable jdm shop and the guy there said F&F 1's sub-par. he has had numerous customers come back with blown shocks :( the key word is numerous that means the quality is lacking. like brodie said megan racing, koni/gc, bc racing, tein, and ksport are all great. good luck on the search i really can't wait to see what you do with the lude!

Re: :::Westernprelude:::2001 Prelude 5spd

Honestly, you're the first one to say anything bad about Function and Forms. Since I don't know these customers from Adam's house cat Sammy, I'm going to keep looking at the Type-2's. Thanks though dude! I've already got a couple of mods lined up for it, so as soon as I get going on those I'll update the thread as soon as the car is modded!

Edit: JTC Customs short shifter is out of stock right now, apparently, so that at least will have to wait. The way I've got it planned now, in 2 weekends when I go home for fall break, I'm going to start swapping some things over(even though I still won't be able to take it back up) and get Crystal(car in my sig) back to stock. Hopefully picking up a stock cutback exhaust so I can decide whether I want to keep the flowmaster, or sell it, put up with the exhaust on Christina now, and save up for something like the Mugen Twin Loop or an Invidia Q300 full system. First mods by me on this car, like I said, will be strut bars, various LED lights from my man LightsOnLED's(aka afesposi), JDM Fogs, retrofits, F&F Type-2's, a JTC Customs short shifter, Some engine tune-up work, S2K Steering wheel and seats, and we'll see after that. My goal is to make this an FF "Dragon-Slaying Beast." (referring to it's ability to go down the Tail of the Dragon, aka US129 at Deals Gap, in the Western tip of NC and TN, that has 318 curves in 11 miles).

Also, I'm new to this whole lowered car thing, and I don't think the jack that I have is going to fit under it. Is there a specific jack brand that is made for lowered cars or something?

Re: :::Westernprelude:::2001 Prelude 5spd

Getting that much closer to being able to switch Ludes. I'm getting more practice during Thanksgiving break. I have Fall break coming up this weekend and going through next week, but there won't be anyone home who can help me with driving it. So, I'll gonna see it but I won't be able to drive it. I'm gonna have to settle for working on my current lude(Crystal) and getting her ready to sell and stuff.

Re: :::Westernprelude:::2001 Prelude 5spd

It's getting to the busiest part of the semester. I've got a year left, plus a semester of student teaching, so I'll be graduating spring 2014. I'm looking at Grad schools, and if I can get enough financial assistance, I'll be going that route. So I've got a little while left to be in school.

Re: :::Westernprelude:::2001 Prelude 5spd

So a little update. The goal is now to take this thing back up to school at the beginning of next semester. The next time I'll be driving it will be all of thanksgiving break, and I'm pretty excited to get good enough to take it out on the road. IN THE MEANTIME, I'm already looking at mods for this one. I'm aiming to make every mod on this one count toward my goal of a monster handler for the Tail. I can't wait to drive 5speed!

Re: :::Westernprelude:::2001 Prelude 5spd

I would suggest the BC's too over all the other ones. You get custom spring rates with them and the quality is much better then the FF. A friend of mine has FF's on his TSX and although they slammed his ride when he turns at high speeds they clunk loud. If you're looking for function and want full coilovers get BC's but if you a little cheaper alternative with great handling properties get some GC/Koni's. You'll be happier in the end. I got myself the BC's for my Prelude with the Swift springs, can't wait to drive it!

Here's the pictures:

I know the headers are the stock ones without the heat shield over them, and know it probably had adjustable cams on it, but the guy put the stock h22A cams back on before he sold it. Other than that, I have a lot of digging to do to find out what else has been done to this car….

Once I get some money flow, I've been thinking about Enkei RPF1's in either matte black or gold with a thick tire.
Here's a picture of the RPF1's

Do or die time for the manual is Saturday, an after that I'll be actually driving this car. The order of mods on this car:

Coilovers(either F&FT2's or BC's)

Wheels and Tires(still deciding)

JTC Short Shifter.

Fujisubo Legalis R Exhaust System

And more to come.

Re: :::Westernprelude:::2001 Prelude 5spd

2 things. At 70 mph, it runs at 4K rpms. While that's a little high, Im not complaining that I don't have to shift gears at all to pass on the highway. I think the guy had adjustable cams in there, and then when he sold the car, he took the adjustable cams out and put the stock cams back in with out re-tuning it, so it might be an ECU issue. The 2nd thing is, I was told by multiple people tonight that the Clutch is probably Stage 2. Any other way to tell than comparing it to stock or taking out the tranny?

Re: :::Westernprelude:::2001 Prelude 5spd

The RPM you're traveling at has to do with the transmission gearing. That's typical for an H22 tranny to be at 4K up there. When I was breaking in my motor, we set my rev limiter at 4500 RPM, so on the freeway I couldn't go faster than like 81mph.

The clutch, your only option I'd think would be to compare it to the feel of a stock clutch in someone else's car.

Sooo, what you're saying is do or die time has passed with the whole manual driving? You tearing it up in the streets with that supposed stage 2 clutch and JDM H22a?

Ah okay...Thanks. I wasn't sure if that was normal. I figured the only way to tell would be to check a Prelude that has a stock clutch and see if it feels and drives the same.
