:::mugenmaster::: 2000 CBM Prelude Base

Hey fellas, I haven't gotten the chance to introduce myself yet but have been lurking around here and other prelude forums up until I bought my lude. My name is Kevin and I'm from Maryland. I love cars, especially Hondas. I own a 2003 Honda Accord coupe and just picked up a 2000 CBM Prelude w/ 95k miles. I've always loved the 5th gens and it's awesome that one is now in my possession! This thread will keep track of the progress of this restoration project as this is my first one I have ever done!

A shot of my completed daily driver, Celes:

My goals are:
1) being meticulous
2) using quality parts
3) clean all around
4) all stock, completely unmolested-->well see about mods when everything else is taken care of

Enough talking here are the pictures:

When I bought her on 03/17/2012. I will name her Sakura.

Engine/Interior/Suspension:

Stock

Future Mods/plans (in no specific order):
[]New paint in original CBM or custom redondo red
[x] JDM Type S steering wheel
[]JDM fog lights
[]New depo headlights
[x]new chrome door handle units
[]fix flappy drivers side door handles
[x]new pass. fender
[]type S trunk spoiler
[x]OEM front lip
[]mugen rear aprons
[]hood bonnet
[]5spd-swap
[]complete engine bay detail
[]new window trim
[]new drivers side window
[]carbon fiber interior trim
[]restore swirlies
[]type SH door panels w/ red courtesy lights
[x]hawk HPS pads
[]timing belt & water pump
[]s2k seats-black/red
[]gated shifter mod

As you can see, she needs a little bit of love but she's mechanically sound. The interior was atrocious and needed a good wipe down and vacuuming and now is spotless!

Been craigslist hunting for a while now and was able to pick up a fresh set of swirlies for a STEAL. gotta love the craigslist. i almost got attacked by owner of property since he thought i was stealing from his property (person i bought the wheels from was keeping the wheels at his GF's place who was renting out a basement, he was not present during the time of transaction). it was a scary moment lmao but well worth it!

I also found a person on CL parting out a 2001 SH and picked up the painted rear SH lip, painted side skirts, and mint condition center console from him.

03/18/2012
Picked up the car in Charlotte, NC and dropped by Roanoke, VA on the way home to buy a CBM rear bumper. Now looks like this! No more cracked bumper

03/21/2012
I've been really busy since spring break ended and don't have alot of time to myself but I found some time today to work on the car a little more.

Started tearing her down, removing the front bumper, headlights, and then fender. As you can see I bought a replacement passenger headlight but think I'm going to sell both headlights for a fresh set of depos from ebay. I've tried the headlight restoration kit before and not happy with the results.

I tried pounding the fender out with a mallet and it looks a little better but I'll have to take it to a specialist to have it in tip top shape again. I tried looking everywhere for a CBM fender but no avail

03/22/2012

Took my car to autozone today to get some codes read. the lude threw up 4 codes

0133-
OBD-II Trouble Code: P0133 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank1, Sensor1)
0401-EGR cleaning

Write-up: EGR Port/Valve and IACV Clean - Honda Prelude Forum : Honda Prelude Forums
Honda Prelude Forum
1456- leak in EVAP system; try tightening gas lid
diagnostic code P1456 ??? - Honda Prelude Forum - Prelude Online.com

looks like whenever I have some free time I'm going to have to clean the EGR valve port and also possibly search for a leak in the exhaust...hoping that isnt the problem though. i tightened my gas cap and crossing my fingers that this will fix the 1456 code. thing is, my gas mileage isn't bad. i hope it's not the o2 sensor in the exhaust pipe either.

and for the peeps, high res pictures of how she currently sits:

yuck...yellowed headlight....gonna have to do something about that
*03/22/2012: used turtle headlight restoration kit to fix the yellowed drivers headlight temporarily until i can scrap up enough money for the depos. pics will be up soon for results

03/25/2012
I know I shouldn't have bought this and used the money for repairs...but the price was too good. +10 HP yo lmao

To Be continued...

use the 3M headlight resto kit, it's awesome. used it on our accord with great results, and yes they were as bad as yours.

yeah damn accord coupes and their larger cargo space XD, priced so affordably
my prelude in person and up close has alot of little flaws that need to be fixed but my camera sure does make it look flawless

what front lip should i go with? OEM or JDM type S? they both look great. i have lots of plans for this car and will have the finances to do it right once i finish school next year. keep posted you guys, there will be tons of updates.

i cant wait until i get the rear aprons like this:

Re: :::mugenmaster::: 2000 CBM Prelude Base

Back looks amazing and looks like this lude is gonna get some loving lol. Your accord looked great too! IMO OEM front lip > JDM type s. While the type s lip is a little thinner and makes the car look a little cleaner, the OEM front lip is fatter and makes for a more aggressive stance. I'd go with WW or OEM...just my 0.02 :)

Re: :::mugenmaster::: 2000 CBM Prelude Base

UPDATE 04/05/2012

my valve cover gasket finally came in the mail from ebay and just before finishing up the valve cover and gasket change, just short of plugging the negative cable on the battery, my PCV valve broke when plugging it back in -_______- plastic piece of ****! had to drive to honda and get another one.

the car just came back from the shop to blend, align and paint my fender. the color came out good, just doesnt match the hood (which wasn't blended). whatever...****s temporary until i can afford a paint job and will do for now. the area under my pass. headlight was fcked up from an accident so i had to do the poor man's paint job and partially sticker bomb that area until i get another bumper+paint. later in the day when the sun goes down and cools off a little, i'm going to refinish my wheels and get off the 11 years of brake dust caked on. this lude is still a work in progress and until my finances can allow, i'm doing what i can to bring her back to life.

It was beautiful outside today and I spent the whole day working on my car, cleaning it up, fixing things and finally a well deserved wash.

Good looking dog and what kind of tree is that? Is that a cherry blossom?

Prelude is coming along nicely.

What color is that on your Accord?

Re: :::mugenmaster::: 2000 CBM Prelude Base

^thanks man! my dog is a pure breed boxer and his name is zeus. the tree is indeed a cherry blossom and its in full bloom right now. its killing my allergies though :/ my honda accord color is graphite pearl, its more blue than grey and more grey than blue on cloudy days.

Update 04/07/12
i attempted to clean my EGR valve today. ran into some problems but was able to handle it. i removed the fuel rail and ignition coil quite easily but when it was time to take off the EGR, i had 2 very stubborn 12mm bolts that were locked into place. several trips to autozone and home depot later, i was able to get those damn bolts off with a 3/4" drive with extension and breaker bar. success!

this is the EGR, look how dirty it was! i had to use a metal wire brush and carb choke to get clean. now for the FAIL of the day. my dumbass forgot to buy the EGR gasket so i couldnt complete the job by taking out the plugs. oh well....at least i know how to do it this time so it wont be that bad to remove everything again XD i reassembled everything and the code cleared!

UPDATE 04/11/12:

Several things came in the mail today. my EGR gasket and something i was especially excited for, a honda access wooden shift knob. i know you guys can get on me about having a tiptronic, but im going to enjoy this sh!tty @ss tranny until she gives out. to be honest, it's running real strong *knock on wood* and hopefully will give me the time needed to source 5spd swap parts to do the conversion.

NOW, for the bad. i failed MD inspection...go figure. everything was justified though. these are the things i need to get done in order to pass:

1) need new windshield wiper blades
2) need new tires
3) need new front rotors and brake pads
4) need new lower shifter indicator bulb
5) CV boot clamp loose and causing boot to leak
6) headlights are loose due the top tab being cut...have to find a way to secure it-->this was the only thing i felt was kinda bullsh!t

so PZ, help me out by helping me find some good advice on 205/50/16 size tires. i am looking at the sumitomo HTR Z II. i dont have that much money any more lol so i need a good daily tire thats grippy and a fair price. a set of 4 is only $250. the other tire i am looking at are the khumo ecsta AST.

as for the brake pads and rotors, id like to get a hawk pads, but any recommendations on the rotors? like i said, i need something that's a good fair price and OEM quality if not better. thank you!

Where did you get the new egr port plugs from? I have the same code and I went ahead and cleaned the egr valve but didnt have the port plugs so I havent done that yet. Did you have to go to the honda dealer?

Re: :::mugenmaster::: 2000 CBM Prelude Base

Hawk HPS pads are good. I have those as well but they give out a lot of brake dust.

nice lip!

build is coming along nicely. Keep up the good work
