I started getting in to track days in the summer of 2010. I was using my 5th gen but soon realised that it puts a lot of strain on the car and didnt want to do that to my daily driver. In October 2010 I picked up a cheap BB4 SI VTEC:

The car came with a original Spoon Sports ECU, Fujitsubo manifold, Spoon Sports rear strut brace, and a massive fart can exhaust. However I didnt notice during the viewing that the engine had been swapped to a UK H22a2 :o The H22a2 doesnt have (or didnt have one installed during the engine swap) a knock sensor, so that was throwing a CEL.

First thing I did to the car was change the exhaust over, it was a horrible noise. I picked up a cheap JapSpeed 2.5" cat back and Decat and slung it on. When going to install it I noted part of the old cat back was still there, at one time the car had a full Fujitsubo exhaust . What was on the car looked to be some home made exhaust:

I weighed the car before I did anything major to the car, it weighed 1250KG with a full tank of fuel.

Now that the exhaust was "sorted" I had to get it on the dyno to see what power I was getting. With the resonator recently removed, plus the new exhaust, the car made 199.0 BHP :P Not bad IMO when the H22a2 should be 183 BHP. It sHows a low WHP value but that was down to that dyno.

The sound on this video get distorted at the end as its so loud.

Specs at the time of the dyno:

Engine / transmission:
UKDM H22a2
Spoon Sports JDM P13 ECU - VTEC @ 5K (no limiter)
NGK Platinum spark plugs
Amsoil synthetic manual gearbox fluid
HAMP oil filter
Petronas Selenia 5W-40 ACEA "C3" oil
K&N Flat panel filter with resonator removed
Fujitsubo exhaust manifold
2.4" SS Japspeed decat
2.4" straight through SS Japspeed exhaust

Re: :::Merlin::: JDM 1993 Prelude Si VTEC

Most of the interior was taken out, a job that is still continuing now, the dash will come out eventually.

Back of the car

Roof

Front of the car

It needed new front lower ball joints and new shocks as the old ones were blown. Suspension has always been the issue with this car, basically its always been ****.

Out on track

Other little bits were done to the car by this point, all the air con was removed, braided clutch hose, new rad, Hawk HP+ brake pads, RainSport 2 tyres and Michelin full slicks.

Then in may this year I had the 4G at a track day and snapped two fron t wheel studs while changing a wheel :( and its been laided up ever since.

Re: :::Merlin::: JDM 1993 Prelude Si VTEC

I didnt bother fixing the wheel studs as the suspension on the car was really putting me off it, I drove my 5G on the track for the summer. But.. im now in the process of bringing the 4G back to life 8-)

To sort the suspension I got hold of a graphite impregnated Engergy master set, trailing arm set, and ARB's. Also a pair of Whiteline anti-roll bars and a set of Tein Basics. While everything is off they are getting painted, and the bottom of the car cleaned up a bit.

Just as well im replacing all the bushes as most were done in anyway. Also needing replaced are all the ball joints (lower arm, trailing arm, top arm), plus two snapped lower arm bolts.

Before

Lowering the rear subframe

The whole of the rear suspension

Ready for cleaning up

More to come on the poly bushing.

And to increase power an H22a7 ATR engine.I was my intention to only install ATR cams, I bought a pair but unfortunately one snapped in transit. I was hunting around on some accord forums and found an H22a7 going dirt cheap, true it has had suspected auto tensioner failure, but even if there is damage I can still use plenty of the parts. Fingers crossed I can use the whole engine after any fixes, it did come with the intake manifold and throttle body and Im hoping to use the head.

Re: :::Merlin::: JDM 1993 Prelude Si VTEC

Before I bought the car it had taken a bump to the drivers side wing causing the resonator to break (which I removed anyway) and the wing to get deformed and push into the bonnet slightly. I tried to bash it back into shape but it only made it worse Sad Not to worry as I got a new wing for £15 delivered but its black so I decided to sticker bomb it. I know sticker bombing is not to everyones tastes, but I think it will look Cool on my track car.

Several hours and a load of stickers later:

Its going to get a few layers of clearcoat before it goes on the car.

Re: :::Merlin::: JDM 1993 Prelude Si VTEC

Lifted from my PUK profile so it is a bit "How to":

Me and 3rdGenSteve are back on the case of the bushings \:D/ Here is how we are getting on. To remove the bushes we used a little heat and a bench vice. We heated the metal a little, really its more to break the rubber/rust seal on the edge of the bush:

Using a big socket on one side and smaller socket on the other its possible to push the bushing out. Dispite my car being 18 years old and still having the original bushings, they came out quite easily 8) See vid below for a demonstration.

Once the bush is out you need to remove the bushing shells. The easiest way is to take a hack saw and cut through the shell. Make one cut all the way through and a second cut further round (it only needs to go though a quarter or half of the thickness of the shell) to act a place there the shell can bend so it comes out easily. Then take a chizel or similar and hack it out ;)

The hardest of all the arms IMO is the rear trailing arm. While the main part of the bush is very easy to remove:

The bush is glued in place and getting that glue fused rubber off the arm is a pain in the ass. Burn the remainder out!

Re: :::Merlin::: JDM 1993 Prelude Si VTEC

We have finished polybushing the rear, and pretty much was easy. So easy that you could almost do it by hand. The "lube" they give you is funking horrible, really sticky .

All but one bush (the big trailing arm) is really easy to do. The trailing arm bush was a bit fiddly but using a bit of plastic pipe to push into and an iron bar to keep the bush striaght as it went in, it slid in:

All painted

Building the rear up before it goes on the car

New balljoints all round! \:D/

The bombed wing still isnt on. Im waiting untill I fit mt new front lip and side skirts. But I did get the car out on track, although my alternator died after the first session :(

On a wet and slipery track (Tyres - UniRoyal RainSport 2):

Re: :::Merlin::: JDM 1993 Prelude Si VTEC

The car broke while it was on track, the radius rod nut failed causing a fair bit of damage. Its being fixed and getting new alloys (the old ones were beyond saving), lowered more, new lips and spoiler.

Bomber filler cap using a single printed A4 sheet

Best pic of the new lip and skirts I have at the moment (still to be lowered in this pic)

List of the new bits since it was last out on track:

New passenger radius rod, polybush, and nut
Black Kosei multispoke alloys
Muteki forged steel neochrome nuts
Aerodynamics ABS Type-R front lip
Honda OEM Euro/Bubble side skirts
Rear bumper with OEM Euro/Bubble lip
Boot lid with OEM spoiler
Tanabe Hyper Medalion backbox
JDM decat

Simplze! Honda Prelude | breaking my lude. : Parts for sale It even has a fog light if your into that thing.

The guy wants $165 for it, but you'd have to twist his arm to get him to ship it to the US Other than that there are Euro replica kits on Ebay.co.uk
