:::jdmluder17::: 1998 Base

Hey guys, I've been an occasional poster on this forum and I think its time for me to make a members ride thread. I bought my Prelude back in April of 2010, bone stock and I am the third owner. The first owner was women that drove it to 47k and rubbed up against every curb she came across and the second owner was a middle aged guy that commuted back and forth to Pittsburgh from Harrisburg. Here she is the day I picked her up:

The first thing I wanted to do (being 16 and impulsive) was change the wheels and tires since the stock wheels were beat to sh!t and I had two snow tires on the back. I went on tirerack.com and ordered a set of Moda MD-11s wrapped in Continental Extreme Contact DWs. Looking back, I regret not taking more time on my wheel choice, but i'm happy for now. Pics after a quick wash:

The next thing I decided to do was swap out the headlights for something darker. I went on ebay and ordered some black "halo" headlights for cheap. I wish i was a PZ member back when I first got the car so I would have gotten DEPO headlights, but oh well, these work fine for now.

By jdmluder17 at 2011-11-22
Now for the sad part Little did I know, I had a small oil leak coming from my engine. I never noticed a puddle in my driveway, probably because I don't always park in the same spot. But anyway, I was driving on 83 on the way to a high school hockey game when I noticed a rotten egg/stinky ass smell coming from my car or the car in front of me. To my luck, it was my car. And about a mile down the road, a wholllllllle bunch of bad sounds starting emitting from my engine, followed by a small explosion I was in the far left lane with a concrete divider to my left and a mess load of traffic to my right. There was no way to get over to the right at the time so I was stopped in the middle of 83 with only my four-ways to warn people. A minute later, a guy in a pathfinder gave me a push off the road with his car, only causing minor scuffs to my bumber (better than getting rammed up the ass by an 18 wheeler) The tow truck came, and took my car to the shop, where it sat for a few months before I found a new engine I found a JDM H22 on ebay from a pretty reputable seller from Canada and had the engine shipped to the shop that my sisters ex-boyfriend (Honda tech) works at. He would be doing all the work for a discount, so I caught a break there. A month went by while he was doing the swap before it was done.

I was so happy to have her back, and I wanted to enjoy driving her even more so I ordered a JTC Short shifter, bushings and a Skunk2 weighted shift knob

By jdmluder17 at 2011-11-22
Install went smoothly, the biggest pain in the ass for me was getting the center console back on after install haha. But here she is installed (sorry for the crappy cell phone pic)

By jdmluder17 at 2011-11-22
I loved the way she shifted with this combo, but now I wanted more grunt from my engine. So I did my research, and decided on a Type-S intake and a K&N filter. I just wasn't ready to drop $240 on a new one. I scrounged around on CL and eBay and found one in New York for $80 shipped to my door (win). Install took 5 minutes and the difference was definitely felt towards the low end with a more noticeable growl.

By jdmluder17 at 2011-11-22
I was then looking for an exhaust, and had my heart set on a Tanabe Super Medallion Hyper but I couldnt find one in stock anywhere. I then ordered a thermal R&D CL system, but after a week, I was emailed that they would be on backorder for a month. I told them okay and I would wait, but then I stumbled upon a Fujitsubo Legalis R on ebay for a closeout price so I quickly jumped on the deal. I called Thermal and cancelled my order and a week later, the Legalis R was at my doorstep. The same day I received the exhaust, I stumbled upon a Hytech replica header in Scranton. He was asking 120 (didnt know what he had) and I shot him an offer of 100. He took it and actually shipped it at no extra charge.

I LOVE the combination of the exhaust and header, it has a subtle tone, quiet around town, yet aggressive at WOT especially in vtec.

Re: :::jdmluder17::: 1998 Base

I forgot to mention that while my mechanic was replacing my oil pump and cracked cam follower, he discovered I had aftermarket cams. He ran a search on the serial # and found out they are JUN cams from Japan. Surprise win.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. It's nice that he does the work for cheap, but he works behind a desk at Toyota, so he does all the work on his own time which sometimes takes longer. But I'm not complaint as long as its cheap haha

Thanks man! I got lucky with the header and intake, I'm glad I didn't just splurge and buy them new when they work just as well used

Re: :::jdmluder17::: 1998 Base

As of right now, I'm looking into getting a sub and two new rear speakers. I'm not really looking for a lot of bass, just something to give it more in the low end. I was thinking about getting a powered sub from crutchfield. I'm not sure what brand, probably JL or Kicker. I couldn't find any in the size I'm looking for from Rockford foosgate. I'm open for suggestions. Not really looking to spend more than 300 for the powered sub

Very nice, you got your head in the right place with this. Very nice mods and it's good to see you replacing the "not-so-great" ones (i.e. headlights). Love the look of that exhaust too. Nicely done!

I had a 12 inch Boston acoustics sub in my car before it got stolen. It sounded great. And crutchfield has them.

That TC sub looks nice, but probably more power than i'm looking for. Best Buy is having a special on xbox 360s with kinect this week. Buy one, get a $100 gift card.. so i've bought three and put them on ebay and kept the gift cards hahaa. $300 free to best buy? i'll take it. I'll be buying from there, but I have to do more research on their products.

I like the quality of boston acoustics. I have two shelf speakers in my room that I got for a steal from circuit city when they went out of business. They sound amazing. I'm sure the quality applies to their car audio as well

Re: :::jdmluder17::: 1998 Base

It's been a while since I updated this, but since then I had the F&F type 1s put on and about $1500 worth of work done on my engine to get it running correctly. Long story short, my mechanic ****ed me and gave me a half ass engine swap. To give you an idea of how half assed it was; I had tranny bolts missing... yep. But all is good now, she's running great and I'm having my custom exhaust put on tomorrow
2.5" Kteller piping, vibrant ultra quiet resonator, and vibrant flat black muffler 2.5" inlet 3" dual outlet. Can't wait. I'll have pics tomorrow of the install and hopefully a sound clip by the end of the week

Wow

I was actually looking into a StreetPower exhaust for my FA5 and they had one with a flat black muffler. I'm very curious to see how it's going to look on your car, especially being black.

Re: :::jdmluder17::: 1998 Base

Pics of said FA5 please I just dropped my car off at the shop and I'll pick it up after work. It's gonna look stealthy for sure, I'll post pics ASAP

Never mind, just saw your thread on 8th civic. Looks good man, just slap an hfp lip on there. I think they are so sexy with the lip

Ps, I've read in 8th civic (was considering buying an 07 FG2) that the k20 loves 3" piping and that a Full Race catback is your best bet for power. It's also not very loud either. But I do love the sound of the vibrant exhaust that they manufacture for the Si

Re: :::jdmluder17::: 1998 Base

Nice, yeah post pics when you get her back. Like I said I'd love to see how the black muffler looks. Not a lot of plans for the Si this year, not too much money flowing in. But I am saving up for the Vibrant StreetPower or the Invidia Q300. And I'd love to Hondata Flash Pro the Si as well. But now that I have the lude back out (was in for winter storage) it feel really nice driving something that has a little done to it haha!

Re: :::jdmluder17::: 1998 Base

Turns out Kteller screwed me and send me 2.5" aluminized piping with some sh!tty universal hangers. My shop said they weren't even gonna attempt the install considering aluminum won't weld up to stainless and the hangers would be custom fabbed. I'm pretty pissed because I figured Kteller was a reputable source for piping. Guess I was wrong, oh well. I'll call today and have them pick it back up (no way in hell am i paying to ship it back) and send me the right piping.

But I feel ya on that haha the Lude is just a different driving experience. I hear flash pro makes a worlds difference in performance and gets rid of that annoying revv hang
